Welcome to all Anticipating PIR 10/7/2011!!

This group is for those with loved ones who had PIR on 10/07/2011. (PIR is short for Pass-in-Review and just means graduate from Boot Camp.)

It was an amazing ceremony, an amazing opportunity to see our Sailors perform and participate as an entire group, amazing to hear that wonderful Liberty call and completely overwhelming to get those long awaited hugs.

It is our desire that this Group will provide the information, encouragement, and support you need while your loved one continues their Navy Journey. We are hoping you will continue to come back and update everyone on that journey and continue to seek support and encouragement from friends you have already made here.

Enjoy your time here and feel free to Comment and join in the Discussions. Be sure to check out the information in the "Pages" section to the right. This is information that will be of interest to all Members.  (You will need to click on "View All" to see all of them.)

Please review the Community Guidelines and keep OPSEC in mind when you post. If you would not want an enemy to know something, then do not post it here because this is NOT a secure site and the enemy lurks. Please do not post your Sailor's last name and NEVER his/her full name. Also do not use your full name, especially if your last name is the same as your Sailor's. If your Sailor provides specific information about events that will occur, please keep that to yourself and do not post the day/time on here since this information may be sensitive and is not to be shared.

Can someone tell me what the "blue candle event"s are?  What's the significance of the blue candle?

NukeMom:  He can only put 4 names on the list.  The extras don't have to be listed...although maybe some SRs write them in as extras on the side?  Hmmmm....not sure on that.  They may only be allowed to write the 4 names.

No worries!

Thanks, lemonelephant.  That is exactly what I meant about the dress for PIR.  We were not laughing at anyone, Sheri.  Believe me, we were just focused on seeing our sailor!  I just was so shocked to see tank top/flip flops/etc in SNOW!  I was dressed like I lived in the North Pole!  :-)

Everyone needs to dress for comfort in whatever they want to.  I certainly didn't have a "new outfit" on.  Some do and some don't.  Totally up to what they want to do.

Believe me, my comments were not meant to offend anyone. As a single mom myself, don't I KNOW how hard it is $$ wise to get to GL and sacrifices that are made to make it up there for our sailors.  It is so worth it though!

It's a great feeling when you get your letter, I can't wait for the next one.

I got my first letter and I did a happy dance at the mailbox. It was short but worth the wait. =)

Everyone keep writing your sailors, because it means the world to them!

Sheri, I don't believe any disrespect was intended.  My point was to wear something nice, but it doesn't have to be formal (but there will probably be others who are more or less dressed up) and I think that diannep's comment was to elaborate on the "you will see everything" part.

For those who enjoy people watching, my mom sent me this:  Wal-Martians.

To Diannep, thank you so much for the info, this helps so much. I wrote to my SR and asked him about it, does he put his name on the list even though they only say 4 guests. I'm so happy if I can bring him. this is great news.

I really think that making fun of what people wear to PIR is awful. You should keep your opinions to yourself. People are there for the Sailors not to impress one another. The people that are attending the Ceremony come from all over the country & not everyone can afford a trip to Great Lakes as well as a new outfit. Show some respect.

NukeMom:  Normally, most all extra guests get in.  In fact, we have not heard that any guests were denied, even with one PIR group that had 14 divisions.  There was one PIR group...where they were celebrating the anniversary of the Naval Station at the same time, so they had moved PIR to an outside arena and they did restrict the guest list then to the 4 per sailor.  Other than that time, extras are allowed/encouraged to come (even by RTC FB page) but are told that they cannot guarantee that they will get into the drill hall.  There was a rumor going around recently that absolutely no extras can go to PIR anymore, and it was asked on RTC FB. RTC FB denied that and posted what I said above.

Personally, I don't think you will have any problems.  Please be sure that all have proper ID.
