Welcome to all Anticipating PIR 10/7/2011!!

This group is for those with loved ones who had PIR on 10/07/2011. (PIR is short for Pass-in-Review and just means graduate from Boot Camp.)

It was an amazing ceremony, an amazing opportunity to see our Sailors perform and participate as an entire group, amazing to hear that wonderful Liberty call and completely overwhelming to get those long awaited hugs.

It is our desire that this Group will provide the information, encouragement, and support you need while your loved one continues their Navy Journey. We are hoping you will continue to come back and update everyone on that journey and continue to seek support and encouragement from friends you have already made here.

Enjoy your time here and feel free to Comment and join in the Discussions. Be sure to check out the information in the "Pages" section to the right. This is information that will be of interest to all Members.  (You will need to click on "View All" to see all of them.)

Nuke Mom 11, read the Page, How Many Guests Can Attend PIR?, and perhaps it will give you some ideas.

I have a dilemma, I have me my husband and two aunts coming to graduation they already have their tickets. My son wants his brother there. I'm going to have to figure something out. This stinks. Any ideas that may help? I need suggestions please.

My husband at our son's graduation.

@Dianne, I think that there should be some kind of dress code just to enforce respect and awareness that a graduation like this is not something typical. Personally I love the little children in their Navy outfits. SO ADORABLE!

I honestly think I'm going to wear my nicest, darkest pair of jeans, a nice collared blouse, simple jewelry, a blazer and flats. So dressy casual. =)

My favorite PIR outfit when we were there:

A middle-aged man, in cut off bleached out jean shorts, complete with the ragged/stringy edges, a faded tank top, and flip flops!  And, the best part?  This was in early FEB!  Snow on the ground...COLD!

The other good outfit was the young woman "balanced" on heels that must have been at least 7 inches tall (she was quite wobbly as she walked!)....and what looked like a LONG shirt but turned out to be her dress...even my wise-to-the-world older son (25 at the time) went:  OMG!  AND, we are from Miami FL, so believe me...we have seen it all!  This is one benefit of getting to PIR early...besides good seating....PEOPLE WATCHING!  Quite entertaining.  But the most fun part of that:  Watching the tiny ones dancing around on the drill hall floor in their adorable Navy outfits...just precious!

You will see everything from very casual (jeans and T's) to very dressy (I saw a woman in a sequined black cocktain dress; others have seen prom dresses.) and everything in between.  I suggest business casual--nice jeans, slacks, or khakis with a nicer top or a suit--with comfortable shoes because you will be standing and walking quite a bit and sitting in bleachers (except for those in a wheelchair and a guest with them who will have a chair).  If you choose a dress or skirt, consider the bleachers and don't go too short and stay with daywear rather than evening wear.  Remember your Sailor will be wearing Dress Blues (confirmed) and you will want to look nice in the pictures.

I've seen this question asked before and I don't believe there is really a dress code.  They said must people do business casual.  I hear alot of wife's and girlfriends dress up to impress their SR.  I know my husband will have on Levi's, that's all he ever wears!
