Welcome to all Anticipating PIR 10/7/2011!!

This group is for those with loved ones who had PIR on 10/07/2011. (PIR is short for Pass-in-Review and just means graduate from Boot Camp.)

It was an amazing ceremony, an amazing opportunity to see our Sailors perform and participate as an entire group, amazing to hear that wonderful Liberty call and completely overwhelming to get those long awaited hugs.

It is our desire that this Group will provide the information, encouragement, and support you need while your loved one continues their Navy Journey. We are hoping you will continue to come back and update everyone on that journey and continue to seek support and encouragement from friends you have already made here.

Enjoy your time here and feel free to Comment and join in the Discussions. Be sure to check out the information in the "Pages" section to the right. This is information that will be of interest to all Members.  (You will need to click on "View All" to see all of them.)

Yes, jobug. They can purchase calling cards at the NEX when they are allowed to go there.  My son's depleted as he was talking to me and since he was right there, he purchased one quickly and called me right back.

Lala's info is great info.  I would mail your SR another card...activated, like she said...lots of minutes!  At least 500.

My daughter doesn't like the dress blue uniform. She says she looks like a stewardess it that uniform lol. I like the white one the best, but she looks so cute in the blue digi-camo working uniform :-)

They can purchase a calling card at the NEX, the problem is will they be going their to purchase something before they get to make that call? The best thing to do is buy one with lots of minutes on it, activate it, then send it in your next letter. Every call from a payphone use about 30 min calling time on the card. So if they call your house and you don't answer and they hang up and call your cell they have already used an hour of their minutes and haven't even spoken to you yet. So keep that in mind when you buy a calling card.

I am glad to hear they will be in their dress blues ( I know they look black but they really are super dark blue). That was always my fav uniform when I was in. Both the guys and the gals look super sharp in them. Personally I think the female's cover that they wear with the dress uniform is the coolest ever!

My stepsons girlfriend got the first letter today!!  So glad to know he's doing good! Says he really misses everyone but is doing good!  He is 3/335 PIR 10/7.  Hoping we get something at our house. My 7 year old is anxious!!!  Hoping everyone else gets a letter from their SR!

I don't know if this is true for all Post Offices but the front window will be closed on Saturday so if you need stamps or need to ship something that has to be weighed you should take care of it tomorrow. The mail will still run on Saturday it's just the counter will be closed. Monday they will be closed and the mail won't run so next weeks mail will likely be a day behind.

Congrats to all who got letters! I'm excited that they get to graduate in dress blues. I think they look incredibly handsome in them. =)
