Welcome to all Anticipating PIR 10/7/2011!!

This group is for those with loved ones who had PIR on 10/07/2011. (PIR is short for Pass-in-Review and just means graduate from Boot Camp.)

It was an amazing ceremony, an amazing opportunity to see our Sailors perform and participate as an entire group, amazing to hear that wonderful Liberty call and completely overwhelming to get those long awaited hugs.

It is our desire that this Group will provide the information, encouragement, and support you need while your loved one continues their Navy Journey. We are hoping you will continue to come back and update everyone on that journey and continue to seek support and encouragement from friends you have already made here.

Enjoy your time here and feel free to Comment and join in the Discussions. Be sure to check out the information in the "Pages" section to the right. This is information that will be of interest to all Members.  (You will need to click on "View All" to see all of them.)

No pay for my SR as of this a.m.  He is at 3 1/2 weeks, arrived 8/9.  Possibly on the 15 then?  In the phone call we got from him last night, he seemed to think he would be paid today.
Comment by diannep on September 1, 2011 at 8:14am
harleydml:  Usually takes 3-4 weeks for pay to start after arrival.  My son arrived Nov 23 2009 and first pay came the first week of Jan.  If your SR happened to open a Navy Fed account when arriving at bootcamp (they have this option when setting up banking info). the deposits will be a day earlier...14th and 30th/31st of the month.

Just checking to see if anyone's SR in our division was paid today? I know there was a possibility due to their arrival time that they may not receive their pay today.

Please see lemonelephants post on Liberty and Leaving After Pir. it also has the link to the Family Guide put out by RTC.

Here is a recent post I did for another group and the link to what my PIR experience was.

Ladies please go to the pages section which is underneath the members column. It has a lot of info for you. "After PIR...PIR Reference info group link...RTC Family Guide link".
The VERY basics are:
Those going to "A"school in GL will have a short period of time with you after PIR and then "depart" to the Great Lakes main base. This may take three to five hours and then they will have the rest of PIR day with you until report in time that night. Then they will have the weekend with you. No overnights though.

Those leaving for other bases will GENERALLY leave about 1 -2 AM Saturday morning for the airport. Which one and actual flight times vary. After PIR they will have all day with you until report time that night. Some leave on Sunday.

These are "basic" guidelines...not exact. PLEASE read my "After PIR..." post. It has what happened to me. It changed very much...and for the better! But without the advice from veteran moms and knowing the basics it would have been difficult to make plans...kowing that I HAD to be flexible too!
Your Sailor will have the best info on how after PIR is going to play out.
I also made sure that he wrote down the flight and time he was leaving once he knew (didn't happen until PIR). Make sure they still have a working phone card as they will not be allowed their cells on RTC.

After PIR Liberty/Friday and Saturday Departures

Grad N Go is no longer used by RTC, they are now calling them Friday and Saturday Departures.

Comment by LydiaEmily on August 31, 2011 at 11:00pm
@Tammy, you will have until like 8-9 on that Friday and he will probably leave the next morning for the airport.

My son is in ship 3 div336- I got letters today!!! He wrote 2 letters and put them in 1 envelope. We got 2 calls from him last week. It was great to hear from him. Can't wait until PIR. He says he is Grad and Go. I'm not sure how much time we will have with him before he flies out to Monterrey.

Lala - Congrats on the upcoming wedding!  How very exciting for all of you.  Is the rash itchy?  Did is just start today?  If so, tell your girl to take a benadryl and change her soap.  Probably a topical allergy, and stress of upcoming wedding could exacerbate this.  Not a dr or a nurse, but my girl has had many issues and I've visited many different types of drs for various reasons.  This is something that has happened to her.  She had to use a soap that had no scent for a long time, and that did the trick.  Hope it gets better for her soon!

Remember next week we have a holiday so your letters may be a day late next week. The good thing is that the recruits usually get extra time to write when there is a holiday so you may get an extra letter :-) And that is something to dance about lol.

I just wanted to let you all know that I have not forgotten about you :-) I have been really busy making ribbons and getting ready for my daughters wedding this weekend. I have been getting on here 2 or 3 times a day and checking to see if there were questions that needed answered. Diannep and some others seem to have it covered pretty good. There is one thing for sure we all take care of each other. When one can't be here another steps in and handles the slack and that is so much appreciated.

My Sailor just sent me a text/pic and her chest is covered in a horrible rash, no clue what it could be from but the timing could not be worse with the wedding ceremony less than 3 days away. We are hoping a pharmacist can help her, if not she will be going to the Dr tomorrow I guess. Any nurses or Doc's on here?
