It is very difficult. Before my son left all he wanted to do was spend time with his girlfriend. We tried to explain to him that he was going to regret not balancing his time better. During boot camp he was brought to tears many times telling me how sorry he was. How he now realized everything he missed experiencing with his family. Now that he is back in the real world he calls me every night to chat. He brought up the subject of how to split time on Thanksgiving. He will be spending a couple of hours at his girlfriends before we have dinner. She is not who I see him staying with but after the fiasco with the first girlfriend I am working on keeping my mouth shut. It is very difficult but working so far. I pray things work out for you Cheryl.
JustMe: You are so blessed that your kids get to spend time together for the holidays. I tried to see my boy for Thanksgiving and they aren't letting him off base for even a pass on Thanksgiving. Oh well Christmas should be fun!
Cheryl56: I know exactly how you feel. Sharing my sailor is not easy either when I don't care for his girlfriend at all!!! Unfortunately I believe it is a stage that kids go through my older son did the same thing and then finally realized that family is also important. I know this isn't the advice you wanted but be patient she will come around.
Morning Mums, hope everyone is doing good :) I need some advice ! When do we start treating our sailors like "normal"again?Since mine has been away our conversations have been really"nice",but certain things have arisen,ie,boyfriend and I wasn't very nice in our text messages!!! I had to share her with him at grad and now she will be coming home on Friday for 10 days in between school and duty station and I feel so hurt that she seems to be choosing him over me!!! To her he's the real "deal",but to the rest of the family he's a big loser!!!We had arguments about him before she left and since then I have been nice, but I'm not good at sharing, especially as she could be deployed in the spring and I don't know when we will see her again!!! Advice welcome :)
We are very fortunate, our son is only 150 miles away. He and a few buddies will be coming home for Thanksgiving. He will also be able to come home for Christmas between duty shifts without taking leave. We also got to the spend the day with him on Friday and took in the San Diego Zoo. I realize how lucky we are.
My son should arrive home this Friday....fingers crossed...no flight booked yet. Do not know how long he will be home before departing for Japan....
Wont get enough hugs in that I know. But he is excited as I am. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving. We all have something special to be thankful for this year......our sailors have made us mighty proud.
My daughter starts her language classes this week , she will be home for ten days at Christmas Yaay, already booked her flight.
