Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture.

Comment by diannep on May 31, 2012 at 7:52am: You all need to remember that flights can change....within a PIR group and between PIR groups. So just because a group flew to Pensacola in one PIR group on a certain day doesn't mean that will always be the case. They have to book on commercial airlines (although occasionally a charter is used for large groups) and when space is available for all of the sailors. During holiday weekends, many times they will fly a day or two later because of filled flights.

So it is just best to wait until you hear actual departure dates from your sailors. I know it makes it hard for planning your own trip, but we always recommend that you all book at least through Sunday if possible, just in case you get extra time with your sailor.

Comment by diannep on May 30, 2012 at 9:29pm: marcy: You can go on the PIR groups that are done. The recent ones are PIR 05/25/2012, PIR 05/18/2012, PIR 05/11/2011. Just find them under the "Groups" tab. You will have to join them to ask. Not sure how busy they will be on there now that they can talk to their sailors directly, but you can try. Most flying out do leave the day after PIR.
