tatmom, I am ao happy you got your call. Everything your son says sounds so positive! I am sure that set your mind (and heart) at rest. I am so hoping we get that call too. I see posted on here that 203 and 204 are getting their calls. I am so scared I won't get one.. :(

Has 197 already gotten calls last week?

Just now got off the phone with my SR - he is in a great mood - we got to talk for 20 minutes.  Said Div 204 is doing great - he doesn't think they have lost anyone. They are still standing at like 84 strong - some other divisions not so lucky.  Div 204 has earned their flag and they are focused on trying to earn the "hall of fame" flag.  He thinks they have a good chance at it.  He had nothing but positive to say about all his recruits.  My son said  he is wearing a collar device - Petty Officer 2nd Class - they have their dress white uniforms and their cackies (sp??) - dress whites are in alterations so they will wear them at PIR.  He says the RDC's are really supportive and work to get the SR's what they need to know.  He has a lot of friends and thinks the world of the Navy and everyone in it.  He thinks he will be able to call me right before PIR - hope you all get a call soon.

I am so sorry marcyl, I know how hard this must be for you. Unfortunately from what I was told the military doesn't recognize grandparents as immediate family. (Something I don't agree with) They sometimes allow them to come home for a grandparents funeral and sometimes they do not. I think it depends on where the Sailor is and what they are doing. But none of that will help you in your time of need. My family went through a similar situation while my daughter was in A-school and my son-in-law was in boot camp. It is especially hard to loose someone so important to you when you don't have all of your family there to support each other, I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. {{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}

With me being new to this group, 2 weeks after my daughter arrived to BC, her grandfather(my father) suddenly passed away. We made the decision not to have her contacted because we wanted her to keep her focus. We had a wake at that time and scheduled an Internment at the cemetary the day after her PIR. We contacted the Red Cross to make arrangements for her to have time to attend. Well I received a devastating call from the Red Cross today telling us that an Internment Ceremony doesn't qualify as a funeral or memorial service, and they therefore cannot contact her or her commanding officer nor does it qualify her for time to attend. I have been through so much saying goodbye to my little girl and then my dad, and now this! I'm just beyond myself!!

 To my daughter Loran, my son-in-law Nathan, my brother-in-law Dave, my uncle Lewis, my very good friend Chris, my niece Laura, my ex Gary, my late uncles, Lonnie and Lawrence, my late father-in-law Larcom, my late brother-in-law Ralph, all my other family members and friends, and all the many many Sailors, Soldiers and their families that I have come to know and those of you who served our country and played a part in defending our freedom. I appreciate you all so very much ♥ God Bless you, and God Bless America.
