Good morning all.....we have 5 more Friday's to go!!!

Comment by tatmom4rc(Ship12, Div. 204) on May 25, 2012 at 1:48am

what is funny about the short notes I received today was that although my
SR said that he "loves receiving all of the letters from everyone.  They are a welcome break at the end of another hard day" - So I plan to keep writing as much as I can and try to get others to do the same.  I send questions about band aids and other topics - so far no answers - I am sure he is tired and not thinking about the 100 questions I sent to have answered. No biggie.

Lots of people brings lots of things in for these Srs, they seem to catch everything. I believe (if I remember my son correctly) that they started giving a pneumonia shot the first part of April so that should cease to happen.

Close quarters shared bacteria. Blowing Runny NoseThe gas chamber will help that though just like diannep said.

A hint on what you send them, if the envelope is "fat" or "squishy" or stiffer than a couple of pieces of paper they probably will have to open it in front of their RDC, what the RDC decides to do with it is up to the RDC. If you are wondering whether to send it or not don't, first instinct is always the best (ask your SR first if they can have it)

adrienne:  Poor SRs!  Sounds like the stomach virus which is the pits!  Hoping that it is short-lived and out of there soon.  The Ricky Crud stays around a bit long...that is usually of a respiratory nature, but the Gas Chamber usually burns that right out of them!  :-)  Pink eye is pretty rampant too at bootcamp, but easily treated.

By the way, they have 3 PFAs (physical fitness tests).  The 3rd one is the one that they must pass in order to do BattleStations (their final test before becoming sailors).  It is amazing how much they improve during bootcamp with their training in the physical fitness area, so I bet he'll get it done!

I got my first PHONE CALL today!!!!! After almost 4 weeks crying all over the place without any letter or any information.......I am so happy.
Comment by ReneeBC on May 24, 2012 at 9:20pm

adrienne,

The bandaids are for the blisters from new boots.  I send two or three in every other letter.

Comment by adrienne ship 09 div 199 on May 24, 2012 at 8:12pm

what are the band aids for?

Comment by Jean78 on May 24, 2012 at 7:30pm

Adrienne,  I received a call also.  I was in the Grocery Store, missed the call and then he called back.  I thought I was going to cry when I missed the call.  I could hardly hear him.  He is doing well and has passed all tests so far.  He sounded good.  Needs bandaids.  He said he is going to learn to shoot a gun tomorrow.

Comment by adrienne ship 09 div 199 on May 24, 2012 at 5:35pm

OMG! I just got a phone call from my SR!  I'm at work and have been trying to stay close to my phone but the minute I stepped away from my desk he called and I missed it!  I thought I was going to have a heart attack (no really) but lucky me, he called on my work phone!  He sounds so upbeat...he says he is doing good, but a lot of SR's are sick because someone came with a virus and they were all throwing up and going to the bathroom.  He says he failed his float test twice and then passed it on the 3rd time.  He failed his physical fitness test the first time but they get 2 more times to take it and he is confident that he will pass it. He said that they have all of their uniforms (Dress also) and footwear.  He was on light duty Monday-Wednesday because he got his wisdom teeth pulled.  It was about a 20 minute call.....I am so happy!  So, hang in there ladies you will hear from them soon if you haven't. Oh and also, it was a very very very bad connection, I actually had to put an earplug in one ear to be able to hear him.....
