for those of you who are booked at the Springhill Suites by Marriott, so are we! Can't wait to meet you guys. Will you be attending the Meet and Greet on Thursday night 6/28?
This was my motto when my son was going through BC...
"I am prepared, I am flexible"...then a Sailor we had on our group wanted to add "Semper Fortis"...the unofficial motto of the Navy..."Always Strong (Courageous).
So, I changed it to "I am prepared, I am flexible, I am strong!" LOL
Ended up being so suitable...as my sons Liberty changed...while I was flying to Great Lakes...two days before PIR! For the better...we had two extra days!
A School is so much different and better. My son equated it to a "college like" campus and their housing is alot nicer. He really enjoyed A School...well, except for the "studying" part. HA!
adrienne: When my son left GL for Meridian, he flew out the day after PIR (this was back in early 2010). Of course, that means nothing...change is the nickname for the Navy! But I would be surprised if your sailor is held until Monday. Book your flights back either late Sunday or Monday if you are flying there...just in case!
As far as his letter writing, my son told me before he left that he didn't like to write letters so wouldn't and asked that I not be upset. Said he would call if he could. Well, I got either 4-5 letters...and pretty lengthy detailed ones too! They learn to appreciate so much while in bootcamp when everything is "taken" from them...all of the comforts of family/friends, home, etc....it is such a great thing to hear them start to thank you for things that they had taken for granted before. They learn very quickly not to take anything for granted and I got many thanks from my SR when he was there. Hoping that there are many more letters to come for you all!
juliebelle28- thanks for the info! you knew exactly why I was asking :-) I am going to stay until late Sunday evening, only because I have to get back to work on Monday. June is going to be a very busy month for me. vacation June 2-9th and then PIR 6/28-7/1...but I am so so excited! I told my SR in a letter that I can't wait to see him in that white dress uniform. They are going to look awesome!
adrienne ship 09 div 199 your son sounds just like mine lol I know you are i am so excited for you and how very wonderful =) that he met someone who will be going to A school with him that way they both have someone they know and to pal around with as they get acquainted with their new environment i can not wait to hear from my SR . You have a great day hon.
BJA57: My son's letter to me was short, sweet and touching, but no details, so I called my daughter-in-law and asked her to read me what she felt comfortable reading to me. So many details...nothing funny., but it just felt good to get a glimpse into what he's dealing with.
Since I do not, and will not hear from my SR--- his wife will get the letters and calls (as it should be).... how are they all doing? You are getting details... is everyone passing and not holding the div/ship back? Any funny stories to share?
I do have a question though for anyone who may know- my SR said that he would probably fly out on the following Monday for "A" school.....is that correct or do they fly out on the weekend?
mommafinn- trust me my SR is not a big writer (or atleast I didn't think he was) and definitely not a big talker....he is very reserved. So when I saw 2 letters which are both 2 pages I was shocked! They were very detailed....I think I am the happiest person I know right now. I am so excited because the letter was so upbeat, he sounds like he actually likes it there. He mentioned that another guy in his division had the same job and that they would be going to the same A school.
