THANK YOU LaLa - I had never heard of it and it is good to know that now so I can stick that somewhere in what brain cells I have left! I hear you $10 is inexspensive compared to NOT being able to hear your loved ones voice!

It is also good that you stress that they cannot go to the NEX whenever they need too...I'm sorry I didn't mean to imply that they have all kinds of freedom ladies...just for you not to worry so much that it makes you sick.

Definitely, definitely send the cards...I got a 600 minute one too...but almost forgot! We were at Target buying other things for him and wandered down that aisle. I KNOW it was one of God's little gifts because I had forgotten AND they were on sale for $20.00! Normally 30. He had plenty of time with the 600 minute one.

(Actually, I am going to delete my post because I don't want anyone reading it on a search and possibly not reading further, missing LaLa's and thinking that they can't make collect calls.)

Praying for all of you in the East Coast and for all of our Sailor.

Glad yours are coming home though, with buddies, Lala.  That is wonderful.  My sailor is not afraid..,remember...hurricanes are old hat for us.  As long as he can protect his car.

Just talked to my sailor, Lala.  Nope, he is not evacuating.  Has to stay in barracks.  Oh boy...He has duty on Monday so that is probably why he has to stay.  Now...to just get his car in the garage!  He said that you had to go to security to get a pass....which was on the FAF (Floating offices) which have now been moved and shutdown.  Great...

Thanks Sandy, I am always happy to have any Sailors who need a place to stay come here. My Sailor is a daughter lol, but then I have my son-in-law who is a Sailor as well. And his family lives near me and I am sure they will also be happy to make room for a Sailor or two :-) I will definitely have a full house tonight especially since my step-daughters are bringing 2 or 3 friends home with them tonight after the football game lol. The more the merrier. Thanks goodness for trundle beds and Aero beds :-)

I am worried about everyone on the East Coast. Please stay safe.

Lala, I am glad your son and all Sailors are getting out of there. It is great that Sailors are helping their shipmates move out of harms way.  It is so kind of you to open your home to these Sailors.

Prayers going out to everyone there.

Thanks everyone, I am sending my prayers as well. Dianne my sailor just called and they are evacuating Newport News and all low lying areas. My sailors have the car packed and are putting sand bags by the doors and are coming home. They are bringing other Sailors who have no where to go or who have homes too far away. I wish your son was coming with them. Don't you have family near me? Maybe he could drive to see them? I know some of the bases are loading the Sailors on buses and taking them to Richmond. Others told them to buddy up and go with other Sailors who were leaving the area. Now it is just a matter of getting out of town. I know the traffic will be horrible.

Their first pay check in boot camp is kind of short because they have to purchase their uniforms and supplies. It is deducted from their pay. (kind of complicated). It is also a good idea to buy a phone card to give to him during PIR weekend. They can't take their cell phones back to the boot camp barracks with them. Also, if your Sailor is going to attend (A)school in Great Lakes, he will need a phone card until you can mail him his cell.
