Have you all heard of Family Readiness Groups?

Family Readiness Groups

Once your recruit is a Sailor and with the fleet and maybe even sooner you will want to become a part of this group. They are very helpful ESPECIALLY during deployment. They will send you news letters and keep you informed about your Sailors Ship. Your have to have your Sailor help you sign up for the group because they only allow members who have immediate family in the Navy. I think they also have this group in the other military branches but it is definitely worth checking into.

http://cnic.navy.mil/CNIC_HQ_Site/WhatWeDo/FleetandFamilyReadiness/...

Family Readiness Groups (FRGs) are an integral part of a support service network that bundles key support services such as ombudsmen, Fleet and Family Support Centers (FFSCs), chaplains, school liaison officers and child development centers at the command level. These services provide coordinated support to service members and their families.

Family Readiness Group’s purpose:

  • Prepare members for deployments and homecoming.
  • Provide family support during deployments.
  • Help families adjust to challenges and to support one another in times of personal, unit or area crises.
  • Welcome/mentor members who are new to the Navy lifestyle.
  • Coordinate social events, such as holiday celebrations.

No, Desiree is right, they can't take phones back to the boot camp base with them, or anything else other than cash, phone card, a watch. You will have to mail it unless you can meet her at the airport Saturday morning before she flies out or if she has A-school in Great Lakes, then she can take it back to that base when you drop her off Friday evening.

I am so sorry Kassie, I hope he heels quicker than expected. You will want to check out the group for those who are hurt or sick. I believe it is ship 5. Diannep knows a lot more about it than I do. I will keep him and you in my thoughts and prayers.

We heard from our son tonight and found out his knee injury is indeed a fracture, he will be down anywhere from 4-6 weeks.
