That sounds like an interesting trip with the babies going to see their Daddy. How sweet. Definitely go at least 2 days early and break the trip up. Map it out on Map-quest and get a GPS, or a smart phone with navigation. The maps will come in handy in case there are road closures. Our GPS went crazy when the interstate in  Chicago was closed due to flooding. The GPS just kept routing us back to a closed interstate. A map would have been nice. Lesson learned :-)

Awww, you can do it, Vonecia!  You are a Navy wife...hear you roar!  HA!  Do you have a GPS?  I think that would help.  The interstate system was easy to follow in the Chicago/GL area...I really don't think you will have a problem there.  And you will be so proud of yourself once you accompllish this!  :-)  It will be fun!

I think that sounds like a "plan."  And how wonderful to have your best friend with you too!  I have seen many drive from TX.  Hopefully you can "map out" the trip and make some interesting stops on the way.

Dianne, My best friend said that she would drive with me. But i live in Dallas, Texas and imagine that it will be a long long drive. But I think I would rather drive anyway because my kids will be comfortable, But I scared of getting lost yikes! And thanks for the info. Was it hard to get around out there?

Everyone, aggiemom has added the MeetNGreet to the calendar --to the right of this page. Just click on Sept 29th and RSVP!  This is a great time to personally meet the ladies on here who you will feel like you know so well by the time PIR comes!

Wow, Leah...what a day that will be for your all...with your two sailors !

Vonecia:  Absolutely I'm sure he would want to see his babies!  Is there a way that your mom can go with you and help with the children??? Or a friend, as she suggested?  How long a drive would it be if you did that?

Ok, my sons are grown, but I bet there are some ladies on here who really have great suggestions for you on how to get this done through their own experiences with young ones.

I don't blame you for not leaving them...don't think I could do that either!  But to fly with a friend/mom or to drive?

Just for your info, Residence Inn Waukegan has 2 bdrm 2 bth full kitchen suites if you are thinking about bringing a friend/mom with you.  Should work out perfectly for you and you could all stay together.  FREE buffet breakfast too!

Just book them early (even if you need to cancel, you can do so up until I believe the day before you arrive).  We stayed there and loved it.

hey Ladies,

I have 2 very small children who will be 22 months and 3 months when PIR time comes. This will be my very first time flying. i DO want to take them because my husband will want to see his kids, my 22 month old daughter misses him and cries everyday and also my newborn has been in the nicu the whole time, so my husband will get to see him normal for once. My mom says leave them, but I really dont want to.

My nonchalent mom suggested that I leave 2 days early, rent a car, and take a friend to help drive.

ANY SUGGESTIONS? OR INFO? PLEASE HELP
