aggiemom:  There is a MeetNGreet held for ALL PIR Navy families (not just NavyforMoms) the night before PIR at the Ramada Waukegan.  You may want to add this to the calendar to the right of this page.  Here's how you do it:

Click on Sept 29th.  Then "Add Event."  Here is the info:

PIR 9/29/11 MeetNGreet

Ramada Inn Waukegan

200 N. Green Bay Rd

847-244-2400

6-8 pm

All Navy familes/friends/chidren welcome to attend!

*****

There is a cash bar (but you can bring your own drink) and they serve appetizers.  Some of the previous PIR groups have called shortly before PIR to see if N4Moms could have a private room to meet in, rather than in the lounge where it is held.  The mgr there has always been gracious in allowing this if one of their rooms is available, at no charge.  Something to think about it you want more privacy.

Once you add this event, post on here that you did this.  The ladies will then be able to RSVP from your post.  Ramada likes to have a ballpark figure of the families from N4Moms attending.

Ok, and on the backpacks.  That is "info in progress" because now, they are being ISSUED backpacks. That is a recent change.  Before then, we recommended getting an all-black backpack (no logos, no colors) for them to transport personal carryon items in to A School (must be given to them once off of RTC).  But, now, we're thinking that is not necessary.  I plan to check with the 8/12 group which is graduating today.  Not sure if their group got the backpacks...but maybe.  It could have started after their group.  So stay tuned!

I was wondering if they had a reception for parents, spouses, etc. before graduation?  We reserved our hotel rooms yesterday and I thought I saw something about a reception or gathering, but wasn't sure.  Thanks!

OK Veteran Mom - my husband mentioned that he read on Navy for Dads that there was some sort of black back pack that the sailors needed to have before they went to A school to pack their stuff in?  Any information on that?

Okay...I think I am done clogging up your pages now! I will bump the OPSEC and BATTLESTATIONS back up to the top of the DF so they show first.

When you start your DIV discussions those will eventually be the main ones (at least four at a time anyway!) showing on the DF. When a question comes up and their is a post for it we'll point you there AND answer your question on the main page here!

Jen (and LaLa thank you for answering!) thank you for pointing out the DIV discussions! They ARE a great way to bond even more on here. When phone calls come...please post on your DIV disc AND the Main Page...then the moms know to REALLY keep the phone glued to them or do the "bra phone" thing! Hey, it's close to our hearts...you know? Maybe we could market it! LOL

Me again,

I posted info on Jokes and such to send to your SR up in the discussion area.

As you may already know there is a special way to send your SR mail.

We recommend no colored envelopes (My SR never mentioned a problem. This is usually up to their RDC's like/dislike!). No bulky envelopes...they'll have to open it front of the RDC (contraband). No packages.

Definitely, no musical cards! We've heard stories about what happens with these from-dancing or IT while they play; sometimes until the batteries run out!

Sometimes moms have sent newspaper articles only to hear that they are thrown out before the SR can read them.

Pictures are fine, but the RDC’s will probably inspect them. My Sailor said all were inspected while he was in boot.

So, that being said here is what we do...copy Pics, jokes, puzzles(I did word searches), cartoons ( I did color with no problem but again that was my Sailors RDC's), drawings( little bros and sisters like to do this...moms too!), ON THE BACK of your letters. This keeps the envelope smaller.

We also recommend typing in 14 pt. font. Ummm...NO SR would ever dream of doing this (wink) but there is a red light on at night after lights out (think Naval vessel) that they sometimes read too. So no red ink either. I did hand write some to make it "homey".

I know it seems "plain" but the "back of the letter" thing helps.

Happy Writing!

Ladies!

I posted a link to the Family Guide and Family FAQ that are on the RTC website.

This website is where you will go eventually to print out your Gate Passes for PIR. Your honor grads will be listed here (but not until about 2 days before PIR-those of you that will have honor grads will be notified by the Navy as you will get to sit up front!)

So explore around on it a bit. On the links is where you will find the one for the RTC FB page. [[CAUTION: DO NOT post for people to come over here-it WILL be deleted. We don’t know why…Navy4Moms is sponsored by the Navy…??? My recruiter GAVE me a pamphlet about ANvy4moms with a little magnet on it…I had already beat him too it though! ;-)]] Here you can go and hook up with people if you FB. You can also sometimes find your SR (or at least his/her DIV) on the photo wall in the coming weeks. RTC posts Pics fairly regularly of daily goings on. I believe there is some kind of challenge question every Tuesday…I don’t know what the winner gets. I do not FB.

The Family Guide has general standard info about PIR; your form letter does also.
