Got a letter yesterday dated Monday that said they would be doing Marlinspike this week! And my SR was very excited that they are half way through.  On the downhill to PIR! Can't wait to see her!

DRod'sMom:  I agree with the ladies.  I would not tell him, unless you feel in your heart that you must.  How much better it would be to be able to tell him at PIR that she had successful heart surgery and all is well.  You can always tell him that it was strongly recommended to you by Navy support groups to not do this and the reason why.  Negative news just has to be kept from them now, if at all possible.  They have to remain so focused on what they are doing.

Prayers for his grandma and her surgery...that all will be fine and good news will be shared after PIR with your son.

ZZsMom is correct.  The immediate family issue doesn't include grandparents.  I remember checking that out before my son left too.

DRod's. I agree with ZZsmom. I think it is a bad idea to tell your son now while he is stressed out trying to get through boot camp. Finding out about his Gamma's operation could upset him and he would lose focus. There is nothing your son can do about his Gamma. It would only make him feel helpless as he can't be with her.  Trust me. Your son will understand why you didn't tell him.

This sort of thing happens all the time. You can also notify POA of the situation. They can have a Chaplain there for him after Battle Stations if needed.

I agree with the ladies I wouldn't tell him until after pir. It will only worry him and there is nothing they can do froM bootcamp and yes the form letter does state they don't give leave for grandparents.

Hello ladies, so I have a question. My SR's Gma has to have heart surgery before he completes bc, do I call and tell him or do I wait for PIR and risk him being angry? He is close to her as we live with her. And what if god forbid something went wrong. I really need advice. I don't want to put pressure on him or worry him but...what do you all think ? Thanks
