Excellent words of wisdom Micaela.  I agree - send him articles of things that he enjoyed while he was home.  My son is also an athlete and loves football and baseball so I have been sending him things about his favorite teams that I find in the paper or on-line.  He really enjoys that.  It's just something to take them away from where they are for a moment.  Stay positive with him both on the phone and in letters.  Keep telling him to be strong and day-by-day he will get through it.  It does get a little easier from what I understand after week four and they are almost there.  I'm sure that you will see a turn-around in his letters after this week.  I'm thinking of you Desiree - keep your chin up and stay positive!

Desiree: I know that must be hard for you, but send him encouraging letters repeating to him that its almost over.....and that life will change drastically after bootcamp. however, from what i have heard, this is usually when sailor's turn around and begin to enjoy it. So just keep that in mind, it will pass.....he has made it this far he will not give up...I know its hard for you to put that aside but do not focus all of your attention on that because it will do you both harm. When I write to my SR I talk about my day and random things to sort of "get his mind off things" if your SR likes sports send him articles and such. My SR said its their only connection to the outside world so its good to read that stuff, plus it takes their mind off things for a bit. Hold you hear up and be strong for him like you have been......and tell him 28 DAYS UNTIL YOU GET TO GIVE HIM A SMOOCH!!!!

I will pray for you and your sailor though!

Ship 7 Div 328-I got my first letter this past Wednesday, but I wasn't home and missed his first phone call on Tuesday evening.  Just heartsick to have missed it.  His letter said that they hadn't had phone privileges because his group got in trouble for talking.

I don't know if this is true for all Post Offices but the front window will be closed on Saturday so if you need stamps or need to ship something that has to be weighed you should take care of it tomorrow. The mail will still run on Saturday it's just the counter will be closed. Monday they will be closed and the mail won't run so next weeks mail will likely be a day behind.

I sure hope so Diannep was really down in this letter i recieved. I was very surprise because in his others he was doing fine then all of sudden i get this really sad letter. I hope he is doing better

Remember that things turn around for them in about training week 4.  That should be next week for the lower numbered divisions and the others will be just a few days behind them.  You will start seeing more positive comments then.  They really start setting their sights on BattleStations and graduation!
