I got my letter today too! I was excited. I cried. Also in my mail was the new Vanity Fair magazine which has usually been the highlight of the month. Today, I had 2 great gifts delivered. I am glad we finally have our own group. I am completely new to all of this. My son was in JRROTC for 4 years. This has always been his dream. I know the Navy will make him the leader he was born to be. Up until a couple of weeks ago, I was in complete denial he was leaving. Then it hit like a Mack Truck a week ago when he boarded the plane in Columbus, Ohio. The box was delivered and is now in the recycle bin and the clothes washed. I know my son will never "live" here again. He'll visit but he will always be a Corpsman. We have raised great kids and we miss them terribly. Thanks to this group we can support each other and possibly meet each other in 49 days! Lisa

@ jakiequeen - My son will PIR 2/17.  We have received 2 letters and 1 call. I live a very boring life in a small town so not much to say in letters.   Thanks to the recommendations here, I have been sending funny photos and jokes (Well some are funny and some are just lame.)  He said all his buddies are loving them along with him.

Hi, I am Lala, aka the ribbon queen. I am here to help you get through this experience and answer any questions you may have. It seem like it took forever for this group to get started. I bet you all are finally glad to have your own PIR group where you can get to know each other and begin this journey. This time will pass faster than you ever thought it would. For now start writing letters and have them ready to mail when you get the form letter. It will be about 2 weeks before they can receive mail but they live for mail call. Even if they told you that you didn't have to write please do, Most of them will change their mind when they hear the names being called out for mail call. It is the highlight of their day and they say it is what gets them through the next day :-)  Welcome everyone :-)

FireTeamLeaderWife here!

My Sailor PIR’d on 05/26/2011.

I am a “veteran” mom on the PIR groups mostly. I will check in here once in a while to see if I can answer any questions and lend some support. There will be a few other veteran moms along to lend a hand and support you all through your PIR experience. diannep, LaLa Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons, Betsy, momofPensacolasailor, JessicaB Sailormom and possibly Sandy’s Sailor son. We have a few others that help out when we have SPECOPS in the groups, sjtina to name one. Others drop in occasionally too…plus we are always looking for more to “join the ranks”. Things change in the military and we like to give out the most current info that we can so moms that have just gone through this help a lot.

I’ll also be loading up the Discussion Forum area with lots of info to help you along during your PIR experience. Please feel free to add your own discussions and start your divisional discussions.

your welcome! 5 letters?  wow. I try writing every day but find not a lot to write about. My days are pretty boring. get up, go to work, come home, go to bed, repeat.  I have decided to do a news letter along with short and sweet notes.  that way I can include all his sports statistics!

Jackie - thanks for opening the group.  I got my letter today!  Now I mailed my 5 letters back to him.
