N4M's Community Guidelines

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Hi everyone! I am looking for anyone who may have a Sailor who will begin A-School at GL on or around 6/12....especially if they will be doing the Engineering route. If they are GSE that would be awesome! That is my son's new rate and there don't seem to be many out there! Please get in touch if any of that applies! Thanks so much and Congratulations on your son/daughter/spouse becoming a Sailor!!!

There are many wonderful "local" restaurants and things to see during their leave.  Lake Forest has a nice collection of shops near the train station (which can take you to the city)  and you can drive through the Lake Forest beach/park and get a great view of Lake Michigan.  Parking there for extended periods requires a special sticker, so drive through or park above and walk down.  Pretty spectacular.  Libertyville also has some great local restaurants and shops. For a typicall mall experience, try Vernon Hills.  Waukegan has outlets and Six Flags, but honestly we didn't have time for anything like that.

It was a crazy emotional 36 hours.  Thanks to everyone for your support of all our sailors.  My parents (sailor's grandparents) attended Sarge's meet and greet with us and thoroughly enjoyed it.  My Dad is a Korean War Vet.

Things to know:

*Residence Inn serves dinner M-Th and breakfast every day

*Residence Inn offers a shuttle to base for PIR if interested

*Residence Inn also lives streams the ceremony if technology allows ( nice for those not on the list to attend)

*Be prepared that your sailor may have watch in the middle of thier leave

*Make sure your sailor returns to base on time (early) to relieve the sailor on watch to maximize everyone's together time

*O'Hare airport(American terminal 3) did allow sailors to get gate passes so family members could wait at the gate with their sailor prior to departure.

*When we met our sailor at the aiport, she had room in her backpack for her electronics.  She opted to wait to have civilian clothes sent to her until she had a better idea of what life at A school would be like.  She did want her contacts though.

*Leave is division dependent based on our experience.  171 had to be back at least 1 hour before other divisions.

Congrats to all of the new sailors.....and I agree with CatMom!  We love helping with the PIR groups and rejoice with you with your new sailors!

Also, like she said, please share on here if we passed on any incorrect info, etc.  We want to make sure that our info is up to date for future groups, and we only know that from your experiences!  Thanks!
