The two best things @ SA are;everything is very well marked and there are turn arounds everywhere. I love downtown! It really isn't that far from the base. Do you have a specific time you are thinking of coming?

Can anyone tell me what downtown SA is like? We would like a really nice hotel on the Riverwalk but dont want to get lost trying to find it or have a hard time coming in and out to see our Sailor on base. Any help is appreciated!

Hospital Corpsman A School group

Kelly, here is the link to the other group.

Kelly, that sounds about right.  My son got there on 4/14 and started classes today, 5/16.  The people cross training and the reservists get first dibs on the seats in school and our sailors get bumped.  We have 5 years on our contracts and they have less, so it only makes sense to send them through first.  How long you have to wait just depends on how many are cross training.

There is also a group for San Antonio A school.  It is much more active than this group.

My husb PIR was 5/04, he got to SA on 5/05 for HM, says his classes do not start until June, he is going nuts already.  Have no idea when/how I will be able to see him (I am in Colorado).  And very thankful to find this group!

Hi everyone. My sweetheart starts c-school in June so I'm packing up the little one and we're headed to San Antonio. Any advice? Places to live? I've been twice to visit, but at the time had no intention of moving so didn't really explore SA like that. I'm from Seattle, anyone know what would be reasonable for rent there? I appreciate you!

TeachMom-Welcome to our group! Your son will love San Antonio, especially since Fiesta will be occuring in just a few short weeks. The Navy has a strong presence at Fiesta. It's also a great time. Very unique!

Greetings to all my new friends with loved ones in San Antonio. My Sailor is in flight to San Antonio HM school as I type.  PIR was amazing, but the time with him was too short.  I'm so glad he now has his cell phone so we can check in/up on him.  I'm about to read through everything on this site to get started on this new phase of my son's life.

Thank you Sara for that info. I am hoping to be able to go visit my son for his birthday on May 6. I am very picky about hotels, as a matter of a fact, I will usually not stay unless it's a good brand name like Marriot, or similar. I am just such a germ freak, and hotels really gross me out. Anyway, thanks again! Glad you had a good time.

Got back from our weekend visiting our son.  Had a wonderful weekend.  Amy, the Travelodge on Pan Am Parkway was a decent hotel.  It was very quiet, room was clean, reasonably priced, and very close to base.  My husband has recommended the hotel to his mom and sister, who are going to see our son for graduation, which is something, as he tends to be a little pickier than me (if the price is reasonable, I am not quite as picky as he is.  It was definately a decent place.
