So excited and nervous.  My son leaves for GL in 4 days.  I am so proud of him. Technically he will be gone Monday as he will be staying at a hotel with the others that are leaving.  We will be able to see him swear in to active duty on Tuesday and then it is good-bye.

Congratulations txfuturebabydocmom on your husbands retirement and your son leaving early.  How exciting for him to get started on his career in the Navy!

Amy, my husband and I are going to visit our son there next weekend, for his birthday.  I booked three nights at the Travelodge for 186.  I booked it on Orbitz.com.  Seemed pretty reasonable and I saw some others had posted that they stayed there.  I can let you know more about how it is when we come back if you like.

Amy- There is a Howard Johnsons and a TravelLodge right within a couple of miles from the base.  I haven't been in them however both rated well on the couple of sites I checked.  www.gohojosat.com  & www.travelodge.com/…avelodge-ft-sam-att-center/hotel-overview

Hope these help!

Good morning. I am looking to come and visit my son in the next month or so, I was wondering if there are any decent hotels that offer discounts near the base. Thanks in advance for any info :)

Hi Ladies! My husband has been in San Antonio since October for A school and just started C school a week ago. Our 3 yr old daughter and I moved down to be with him. I'm still learning the area but if anyone has any questions, I may be able to help!

Sara, I am not familiar with the area at all, but good luck and enjoy your time.

Yes, I am thankful it is not too far for me to drive. We just got back Sunday from Great Lakes and it was a 13 hour drive and it was excrutiating. Probably because we had to drive in the middle of the night on the way back and we were all falling asleep. My son says he really likes it so far. I think he was just glad to get out of boot camp lol
