Okay, I am confused regarding the hull swap t-shirts. Can someone direct me to the correct contact page? The only site I found was the USS Bonhomme Richard Support Group on FB. I can't find a link or event or anything regarding ordering the shirts. Then I saw I post on hear from happyclime about red or blue hull swap t-shirts to be ordered in June.
Help, we would really like to order a few of these.
oh, cathyo, thanks! i got up too early this morning (5:45) and ate breakfast with my hubby. i almost ruined one of his surprises to me. ha ha then the phone rang and it was our oldest son on his way to work calling to tell me. now i'm up and don't have to leave for work for 2 hours...ummmmm...LOL
so, i didn't send my money for the shirts, so i might just have to wait for the colored ones...???
have a great day, all.
ps, mary, i will tell jesse happy birthday on FB. :)
cathy, have you found out any more info about whether josh would be able to get family leave? hugs and prayers to all of you.
Happy Birthday Kyann!!
Here is a little of what Jesse sent me. Of course I had to edit cuz he abbreviates almost every word, LOL!!
"Wow. The HT's made me a cake outta cinnamon danishes n oreos n hershey kisses! They put a rolled up piece of paper for a candle n everything inside it! :) they made me a card too! HT's are my family. I didn't know they loved me like that! They turned the lights off n everything! I almost cried to b honest with you"
(awwww!!!)
You guys all see the facebook pics with the BHR and Essex side by side? !!!! Love those pics!! Waiting now to see the BHR post pics looking at the Essex. was so happy to see those this morning. Jesse told me even before I saw them that he got to see the BHR (which is great, cuzz he doesn't get "outside" much, LOL)
The current BHR FRG is selling shirts (gray ones). A mother of a current Essex Sailor is getting a shirt together as well to use for a different fundraiser (those shirts will be available no later than June).
If you would like to order the gray shirt from us I can send you the information to send your money. We have all sizes from child XS to adult XXL (except adult small). Our shirts are $10 a piece ($13 with shipping) if you buy more than 1.
Hi ladies! Last Josh and I chatted he said he would talk to his chief. I haven't heard from him since that email. I look forward to when they are back so that we can have a heart to heart (face to face skype) conversation. I expressed Josh's heartfelt message to my uncle and he understands if he can't make it back, he just says "God Bless Him." I told him maybe he and Josh could skype. I tried to explain what that was, but not sure he got it :-)
Almost our whole family will be getting together with my uncle in a few weeks to look at old pics and old movies that we found. Very much looking forward to this! If it all works out, MAYBE that could be the day we could skype in Josh!
It's so exciting looking at the pictures of their new ship isn't it!?!?! I bet they have some really busy days ahead of them!
It's a blue sky and sunny day here in upstate NY! We are celebrating our oldest son (DJ - Derrick Jr.) birthday today. He's 29. YIKES...just finished looking at old pictures...where did the years go? I love doing that on their birthdays! We're all missing Josh a little bit more today as we are wishing he was here to celebrate too.
another question about the shirt sale. i know it's a fund raiser, so does each ship use the money for their ship (at the time)... if you purchase shirts from the BHR, does the Essex get any benefit from that and vice versa? not that it matters a whole lot, just wondering. thanks
Sharon, I bet you had a wonderful time visiting with your mom. 92...that's amazing!
I plan on getting my t-shirts from the Essex site too. Can't wait to see what they look like!
It was 60 degrees and sunny today and extended forecast calls for more of the same for the week. Spring fever hit me today when I ran an errand during my lunch break! I would have loved to keep on going...home that is...and sit on my deck and soak up that beautiful sunshine :-)
Hi everyone. Had a glitch in my computer I guess. Comment box was unavailable for me but I guess I worked through it. Anyway, March in Ga. and we've got high temps in the low 80's. What's summer got in store for us?! Been out of the loop for awhile. So any letters/packages henceforth go to the BH address, correct? My son Chuck is cranking in the kitchen this tiime out. That does not change his dept/div. on his address does it? He said they'd put him in the "deep sink".Can't wait to hear from him and compare notes. I work as a lunchroom lady at a local high school and I have permanent dish room duty, which I LOVE. Wierd, huh, but true. Crappy pay but good benefits and worth the work to have summers and all major holidays off.
Sharon - I remember when Katie was home the first time after joining the Essex. I showed her the profile page for this group and she recognized the sailor. He is no longer on this ship and I don't think 'Michelle' has posted for a very, very long time...2010..maybe
Hi ladies! My uncle had a rough week and ended up in the ER. His heart rate went so low he passed out at his apartment at assisted living and then they found that his potassium levels were dangerously high. For two whole days he fought sleep. His arms and legs were never still. Constantly tried to pull out tubes and swing his legs over the bed. Complete confusion and moved in and out of different periods of his life. It was so sad but so peaceful for the family to be there with him. With most of the family there we were able to have someone with him 24 hours. Since he has slept, potassium levels down, and they took out the temp pacemaker. Hospice has visited but he has not agreed to it - yet anyways. I don't think he understood all that they offered and how so he just needs time to think it through. He has now signed a DNR. The plan is to get him well enough to go back to his assisted living apartment. And after being with him today and seeing how much better he looks and acts, I think that he will make it back there.
Because we thought the end was near, I did contact the Red Cross. But only to find out that an uncle is not considered immediately family. I think that I kind of knew that but wish I was told that up front when I explained the situation to the ombudsman.
I happen to catch Josh on FB and was able to give him an update on our uncle. He felt so bad and was worried if I was ok and his nanny and poppy. I reminded him how close our family is and that even through bad times we love being together. He asked me to put his sailor picture at his bedside with a note.
And then on Friday, Josh called with his ship to shore calling cards to wish his dad a happy birthday. So sweet to hear his voice. And I was amazed how clear the connection was! We only got disconnected once and he called right back to finish up the minutes on the cards.
Cathy - Will keep your uncle and family in my prayers.
I know that when my Mom had her congestive heart failure and then other heart issues, Katie knew she would not be able to come home since it was her Grandma, not Mom/Dad, Sister/brother, son/daughter, husband/wife. Fortunately, my Mother is doing so much better with her defibrilator/pacemaker and Katie got to see her when she surprised us in December with a visit.
Kim from TN - wonder why Hans is sending his stuff home himself, Katie says the Navy will be doing it for her.
Thank you for the prayers. The goal was to get him well enough to go back to his apartment at the assisted living. And that is where he is headed today! Along with hospice services.
Josh isn't able to find the clean and renew cartridges for his shaver and asked me to send. I found them, but didn't buy them because on the box it says "Danger: flammable/inflammable. Use in ventillated area." I'm not sure if this is one of the items that can't be sent. Any moms out there send their sons similar item? I guess to be sure I should stop at PO and see what they recommend.
Another question. Has anyone ever seen ship to shore calling cards in stores? As mentioned previsously, I had bought them at the NEX on line store but took forever to get there. Just wondering if there was a simpler way.
My uncle is not in pain, thank God. The more I thought about asking the PO, I thought the same thing Sharon, so I didn't ask. I figured they aren't aerosol and then I checked this link https://www.usps.com/ship/can-you-ship-it.htm. I sent them off today along with Easter candy! I'll have to check out Amazon for those and other items - I never even thought of that...thanks.
Yes, LOL, if Josh had a girlfriend he would have definitely used them for her!!!
And yet another beautiful sunny warm...well actuall hot....80 degrees...here in upstate NY.
Katie called this AM from the ship to wish me a Happy Birthday! We talked for about a minute and then lost connection - then she called back and we talked for about 45 minutes!!! Yesterday Dave grilled steak and I had dinner with Joe/Thomas who are at home. Alicia (our oldest) called last night for 2 hours.
One time Katie was ordering from Bath and Bodyworks and they wouldn't send her the hand sanitizer 2 oz bottles that she ordered, so they sent them here. I stuck them in a 'goodie' box.
I have an Easter care package to send to Chuck. Think he'll get it by Easter if I mail it tomorrow to the new BR address? Or does anyone advise I just wait until the hull swap is complete? I hate not knowing exactly when that will be, but this IS the Navy. It's still in the low 80's here, with pollen counts in the 8000's. Gag!
I forgot to mention this...last week in the midst of being in the hospital with my uncle, I saw a FB post on Josh's wall that said..."happy" and you know how FB automatically posts the location of where you are....well this said "near Philadelphia, PA." Well...my heart was beating so hard with excitement as for some CRAZY reason I was thinking he had just landed in Philly and was on his way home and he was going to surprise me. He didn't know at the time that my uncle had been hospitalized. Well all day, I had myself convinced and there were no further posts from him throughout the day. Even as I was driving home that night from the hospital I thought Josh was going to be home and was going to pop out! OH DEAR...what an active imagination I have and what wishful thinking can do!!!
So late that night I saw Josh on FB and chatted. Told him what I was thinking and he was "lol...I wish!" He had no idea why FB did that.
In the email there are two links. The first is to view the post and the second is to stop following. I hit the second one all the time. It still brings up the website so I don't notice.
KimTN, congrats! Blondie, on the Japan site, daughter is going to the Pentagon, at the same time as Hans. She plans to visit to help with apartment hunting. Mar, who lives there, offered help. You should get in touch with them and share information.
kimtn-great for hans. he must be doing a good job, huh?!
hope all are enjoying the weekend. we are adding an addition to our barn, and i have been helping dig holes...boy, hard work for a 40+ year old. lol chalking it up to exercise, so i guess it's all good. ha ha
we had some of that unseasonably warm weather here, too, now in 60's and it feels cold. :/
That was my John in those pictures! My first glimpse in awhile, and I am very thankful. He looks a little skinny though. He gets car sick so hope ship life is not a problem. Thanks for all your comments- don't always get to comment but I read when I can.
Received my gray hull swap t-shirt yesterday from BHR group. Didn't realize it was going to have a large graphic on the back since I only ever saw the small pic for the front of the t-shirt.
marianne-i thought it showed a pic of the front and back, both having the ships. hope you like it. i am wanting to get one. haven't ordered yet. kinda waiting to order a colored one.
