  • Son#2

    hello!

anyone else have a someone leaving in aug 2018?

  • NickSydmom

Son #2 my daughter leaves in August

  • misisu

Son#2 and NickSydmom i have a son that will be leaving in Aug 2018. Good luck to us all! I have an older son that is active in Norfolk.  What date in Aug are your kids leaving? Mine is set for Aug 15th - but as you know things can change

  • NickSydmom

missisu my son is in nuke school in goose creek.(Charleston) he will be graduating the first of three schools in April. My daughter goes to bc on the 28th, so far. She is going to be a hospital corpsman, and will be in Texas. Very far from us in Michigan. How old is your guy? My girl is a senior in high school, just turned 18.

  • misisu

My son who is active went undesignated and is in Norfolk. This son is a senior in high school (just turned 18) and graduates this spring. He choose his school so he could have as much summer as possible!

  • Son#2

    hello all!

my son is leaving around the 8th.  good luck to your sons and daughter!!

nicksydmom--my oldest son was a nuke.  he just got out last august.  he was in for 6 years.

  • misisu

Just a little hello. I was thinking about all our sailors and their futures. I get depressed sometimes listening to all the Mom's gush about what school their kids a going to. Then I think to myself - Maybe I have it a little better. My kid is going to strait into adulting (even if it is with training wheels) while the others are still caught in a world between.

Anyway, just thinking about the future and where our sailors will go.

  • Son#2

    hello all!!

misisu--i sometimes wonder also.  wherever my son happens to go, i pray God is with him and keeping watch over him and my son is happy.  i pray your sailor will be too.

Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

  • lemonelephant

I have left info on some of your My Pages about your future Sailor's rating (job/occupational specialty) or field and "A" School. If anyone else needs this info, leave a comment on my My Page with the rating or field and I will comment back on your My Page. I have info on every rating and field. I also have that info for the PACT programs.

  • valerie129

The links in this paragraph do not work:

About a week after they arrive at BC, you will receive a form letter, with their Ship# and DIV # (address) on it. Check it against the ones here: http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp Actually, www.bootcamp.navy.mil has some great need to know overall info for families! Then, watch for your PIR (Pass in Review-i,e, Graduation) date to be posted here: http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/upcoming_grads.asp

    Am I missing something?

  • lemonelephant

valerie128, The info in the Information section above is incorrect and outdated.

Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what will soon be happening or is happening and what to expect.

The Form Letter now arrives 9 to 14 business days after the recruit's arrival at the RTC in most cases.

We post the PIR groups in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and sometimes one of remembers to post them here as well. The PIR groups are typically created after the divisions have been posted at http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/tg_grad_dates.html.

Hello Everyone!  My daughter left on Aug. 1, 2018.

  • Phoenixmom

Hi Folks I would like to reach out to those that are New or maybe the ones who their Loved Ones havent Left as of yet, this site that I am about to post should be read by Your Son/Daughter beforehand. Don't know if the Recruiting office is letting them know what needs to be passed before attending or able to Graduate. So please those whose Loved Ones who havent left yet read along with them and make sure they can pass this beforehand. Many are struggling and if this can be worked on before and passed it will help them when they get here to BC.

Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and Fitness Improvement Training ... for more information.)

If your future Sailor has yet to ship to the RTC, then check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., and to start discussing some of the things there with your future Sailor such as how to handle bad news and who will get the tickets for PIR....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC

  • lemonelephant

Stephanie, your recruit arrived on the 14th and you did not receive the form letter until the 27th. How do you know that your recruit received letters 8 days after arrival? Even if the tracking info through the Sandboxx App indicated the letters arrived at the the RTC it is unlikely that he received letters that early since the RMPO for the division had not been trained and he still would have been in Phase 1 (P-days). His earliest Mail Call MAY have been Friday the 24th. The soonest your recruit would have been able to write a "real" letter would have been the 26th. Yes, you were fortunate that he ended up in the division that the recruiter indicated, but it could have gone differently and either way your letters sat there.

  • swFloridaMOM

My son left for bootcamp on the 29th. His box came this week on the 4th. So how do we find out his address and graduation date? Does that come in the mail? Does he send a letter to tell us his address? I don’t have any experience with the Navy, feeling just a little anxious.
  • Phoenixmom

Hi swFloridaMOM welcome to Navy Moms. so I see you received his box YAY! so now next will be the form letter. the form letter will arrive 9 to 14 business days after the first PFA which is taken on the 5th Business day of arriving. the form letter will have his address to where you can send letters and his PIR date with the security form that needs to be filled out and sent back to your Recruit. See Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and Fitness Improvement Training (FIT)There is more on this in Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.

  • AFVetNavyMom

Hi Moms - My son left 8/23 and I did receive the box & opened it 4 days later and fought back tears by reminding myself how proud I am of him. There's still so much I don't know. To my horror, my cell phone is set to DND so I missed his "I'm here call" that came late that night although I did speak with him when he first landed. His was very short & seemingly a little strained although that is probably just the Momma Bear in me feeling overprotective. I'm in SW FL & am wondering if I'll have to dig deep in the attic for winter clothes for the graduation. :(

  • Deb S.

Hi, Lemonelephant, I am kind of stressed out right now. My son called me at work yesterday, so happy to hear his voice but later was so frustrated that he still need some papers from the parents... birth certificate, naturalization papers. We have been here since 1979, moved from New Jersey to New York and had some papers misplaced. My husband don't have his birth certificate, i dont have my naturalization certificate nd just checked how long to request for a copy,6-12 months. We travel  a lot but just bring our passport, were 64-65years old and ready to retire and not so worried not to have those papers in hand  and....we are both federal employees. I don't understand why this was not requested before the swearing in. Did anybody have this situation at all. Do they have to come back home?? I would be so happy but my son is loving it there. I am planning to call his recruiter but I have been reading  along here that they are not of help at all.

  • lemonelephant

Deb S., the recruiter will be of little to no help with this situation. I put some more info on your My Page.

    Welcome new members!

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Also, be sure to join this group for boot camp moms, here you'll find lots of valuable info.

  • Bluewater18

    Hello,

My son ships out August 14, 2019 - anyone else's recruit leaving then?

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi Bluewater!  Hopefully some others will chime in soon.  I see you joined the boot camp group - that's a good place to get answers to most of your questions.  I'm sure with his ship date coming up soon your son is prepared mentally & physically.  Use this time to make some memories!  Enjoy the next few weeks and remember, we are here for you!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

How's everyone doing?  Anyone have a recruit getting ready to leave?

  • InTheNavyMom

Hi!  My boy is leaving Aug, 13th, 2019.  He is excited and ready to go!   Like all the moms I guess, I'm filled with mixed emotions, but happy for him.  I think I'll feel better once we get the first few weeks of boot camp behind us, or...(maybe when I actually show up for PIR).

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

InTheNavyMom - wow - one week to go!  Hopefully everything is in place - be sure to talk to your son about what his wishes are if (heaven forbid) something serious were to happen to someone back home - would he want to be contacted or wait until PIR?  Be sure to join the boot camp group - I left the link in the welcome message on your page.  There's lots of good info there that will get you through BC.  Good luck to your son!  He's got this!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Navynewbie - it has to be a specific calling card for actual phones, not for cell phones.  You'll have to look around a bit to find the right one.  I don't remember how much it was when we did it but they can take it with them after they leave and use it in the fleet eventually.  If you can't find one he can buy one at the NEX.  It's nice if you can get it beforehand though so he can figure out how it works lol!  But again, not the end of the world if you don't......

  • Milliemax2

    My daughter leaves aug 20th

  • SherylJ

My son left August 29th and we recieved his PIR date which is November 1st. I'm so excited and relieved to get this information. I hope everyone else is being supported and allowing themselves to feel whatever it is they feel.

  • partyofseven

    Welcome SherylJ,

That is awesome. Did you receive his ship # and address as well? If so, now you can start writing letters and planning for the trip. It will be here before you know it.

My son is leaving 8/3/20....just a few days away
  • Shoosh

Amanda hey! How are things, have you heard from your son? My daughter leaves next week, 8/26

  • Kristel2400

Could someone please share a working link for tips/ideas for writing letters? Each link I find is no longer working. Many thanks in advance.

  • katmom1

Good Morning! My son left on 8/23/20. We have received a few letters from him. Originally he put in "recruit training command" when we received notice of graduation. Now his return has "marvin shields". Will he still receive with either of these on the address? Last letter was yesterday and he has not received from me. Thank you.
