My Valentines day was a heart breaker without my son. He arrived BC on Monday Feb 13th, however i did wake up to a Valentine card from him on my night stand that he asked his sister to set out for me! I can't wait for those dirty clothes!

  • MilitaryMom

My dear step daughter arrived at BC yesterday morning.  This is my second one in the military but it doesn't make it any easier.  I can't wait to get that address and start writing her and of course get a few letters from her.  Miss her already!

Looks like they are definitely on schedule with the "Sailors in a box" and the Form letters.  At least now we can somewhat follow along with their training.  thisday: glad to see our kidlets are together.

  • lemonelephant

Navy mom 2016, begin writing letters now so you will have them ready to mail when you receive The Form Letter

The Page, What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology), will help you with many of the new terms you will come across.

If your future Sailor has yet to ship, then be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor or recruit) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

Well he is on his way to Richmond VA will be sworn in tomarrow. Then off to Great Lakes for Bootcamp and Pre Dive school. Oh how the tears come and go. I couldn't be Prouder of the man that left today. Can't wait to see the new one he will be in 8 weeks. Just hope this emptiness inside subsides soon.
  • Remi

We just dropped off my son who's shipping out tomorrow for boot camp. It feels so surreal! Sad and proud at the same time. And I get to do this again next month with his twin.
  • Gijoesgirl

Hi Remi, I dropped my son off Feb. 1st and totally understand your feelings!!!
  • Gaia

  • MamaDee

My son called me last night from the airport when they landed right before they left for the Great Lakes base. He said he was good and that would be his last phone. And he would see me at Graduation. Miss him so much already. 8 weeks can't get here soon enough. Now to wait for the box and the letter.
  • Gijoesgirl

Carol Easley It sure is hard not knowing!
  • ButterflyMom

My son landed in Chicago last night. I've cried ever since! He is the youngest of my three sons and it is the hardest thing I've ever gone through! And he went away to college, but this is so different. Hope these 8 weeks fly by...
  • sjm4mom

Sandrab, my son landed last night too. He is my oldest, I am really struggling as well. I lost my grandfather less than a week ago, and I am feeling a little overwhelmed. I keep reminding myself how excited my son is and what a great opportunity this will be for him. I am so grateful for this group. It is nice to read about everyone's journey. Wishing you all the best.

Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening and what to expect.

Hey all, sounds like a lot of you said goodbye to your loved ones recently. I just wanted to say I'm here with you. My loved one left the 13th and I had a really hard time especially in the first couple days but I can tell you already at 10 days in it has gotten easier. Things that have helped me so far are staying busy with projects, learning as much as possible about boot camp and PIR, and writing letters to him. I highly recommend that you start writing letters before you even get the form letter with his address, then once you do, send them off. I'm here for you all if any of you need someone to talk to. Hang in there, this period of having no contact is just for a little while; we'll hear from them soon. :)

  • Jeep Mom Fl

Mine son left for boot camp on Feb 14th. It's been a very emotional journey so far. So very proud of him! The tears have stopped which is a good thing. Was proud of myself for not crying opening his "box" although I teared up when I had to sign for it. Lol! I have to say this sight has been so helpful and I am extremely grateful for it! You all are wonderful and Yes we will all get through this! I am know just waiting on the "letter". Hoping there is a letter from him too with it.
  • Dragonfly

My daughter arrived at boot camp this past Tuesday, February 21st.  This site has been a tremendous help!!  I miss her so much but I am so proud of her decision, and thankful to all of you moms for supporting your children's decisions to enlist.  I'm finding out that not all recruits have supportive families.

  • MamaDee

I really was Never really a Military kind of person. He is the first on to enlist in my immediate family. Cousins yes they has served in the Navy, Army, Marines I Never really thought one of mine would enlist. This is Hard for me. But I couldn't be Prouder of him. It's a tough world out there. But I have to believe that our kids will make difference in this world. I am hanging tough. Missing him like crazy. I feel like I am the only one that feels like nothing will ever be same. But he has alot support.
  • PeppermintJoeysMom

    MamaDee

I totally understand where you are coming from, i miss my son like crazy and it was a hard realization that things won't be the same and getting used to him not being home has been hard. Do you really ever get used to it because they are active? But nonetheless so very proud of my son! And all these sons/daughters that had the courage to enlist!

  • BellaB

My son was in a hotel overnight on 2/21 and I received my VERY SHORT phone call at about 7:30 on 2/22. I'm super excited for him. I had a blast in (Army) Basic Training, so I'd love to be a fly on the wall! I'm pretty sure that I'm going to be obsessed with videos/posts/etc. with the day-to-day routines from here on out. Congrats to all you awesome moms!

  • MamaDee

Mine too in Richmond. He had a roommate from Northern VA.
  • BellaB

That's pretty cool. I wish your son the best! As for the moms-we've got this! I know it will get easier-especially knowing that this will have a positive impact on their lives.

  • Gijoesgirl

MamaDee your tears just show him a mama's love and he knows you're proud of him!!! It's okay to show your feelings and it won't be the same because your little boy is Sailor!!! God bless you!!!
  • CherylG

  • Gijoesgirl

We received the form letter about a week later.

  • Susan6030

Thank you so much for the information Gijoesgirl !

  • Gijoesgirl

You're welcome Susan6030! We are in our 4th week and it does get a little easier for the family.  I still think about him every second of the day but the feeling of loss isn't as bad. God bless you!

  • Donna

Hello I just received the box today. My son in law (he's like my son) left for boot camp on 2/23/2017.I do have a question. He put down my address and from the stress most likely he had my house numbers wrong. Luckily Fed ex called my daughter to get the correct address. Now we are wondering if the letter that was sent out with his ship number is going to go to the wrong address. /fingers crossed!

  • Kimber

My son shipped on 2/27, met a nice family at MEPS, they took my son to dinner the night before. Never got any info from the mom, she informed me about this site, which has so much info, thank you, if u see this post ,send me a message

  • Navy Mom x3

My son left on 2/15 but we still haven't received the letter.  Will the recruiter be able to find out what division he's in so he'll get our letters?
