The recruit, Christopher Walker, was reported in one article as having complained of being disoriented before he collapsed and died.  This is really disconcerting.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family!

  • madozer

Many of us will be hanging out our Navy Flags, and burning a candle in our windows for 9 days in honor of the SR that passed away. We pray the his family receives the comfort, privacy, and dignity they deserve.

  • velvetlace

madozer-   Great idea!  The SR does deserve dignity and honor for his accomplishments.  I hope his family will find comfort and peace.  I will send prayers for them, as well.

  • Dan's Dad (John)

I don't know about a tissue alert but that gave me the willies.

  • vettespace

John, Roll Tide Roll!!!!!!!  I enjoyed every minute of the game!

    Greg's dream is pretty wild!!!!!!

My story is no where near as good, and didn't last that long either (church even got hit by a tornado two weeks after the wedding and a huricane tore up the honeymoon island two months before the wedding), but did get two wonderful sons as a result!!!  :-)

  • Greg-and-Angela

Sorry if it creeps you out..I wish God would make all the blessings in my life as easy to find and wonderful to live with. Angela is my greatest Joy and our sons my reward!

  • mikes mom

Gotta share the how I met him story.  We met on the beach on the Naval Base in Great Lakes.  I already had orders to Okinawa in 3 months.  6 weeks later we were engaged, spent 3 weeks together at Christmas time.  Then I went to Okinawa and he went on a Med Cruise.  Came home to Michigan in Sept. got married and I went back to Okinawa for 8 more months.  26 1/2 years later still together, happy and proud parents of two sons.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

    Congratulations on our new corpsman!

Wow, these how-we-met tales are absolutely wonderful, keep em coming  - and yes, I'm collecting them in one spot :)

Here's a "good news" story from yesterday, it involves our Navy...

Yesterday near Buellton, California, a truck hit the back of a BMW carrying a mom, her 10 yr old & 10-week old.  The truck plunged through the guardrail, the car smashed and left dangling off the bridge.  While they were waiting, terrified, for an HOUR for rescuers to reach them, US Navy Seabees who were stuck in the traffic used the forklift they were transporting to keep the car from falling.  Though the truck's driver was killed when the truck fell below, mom and daughters were extricated & only had minor injuries.  That green thing in the photo is the forklift.  Talk about a Bravo Zulu moment! Rescue, photos, video

  • velvetlace

Kathy-  Congratulations and Bravo Zulu to your son, a new U.S. Navy Corpsman!   That  so great!!!!

Carol-   Loved the Gaery Sinise tribute to our fabulous Navy corpsman!!!!!!

Marcy-  Awesome story about the Seabees coming to an emergency and doing the right thing. What heroes they are!!!   Love those Seabees!

  • mikes mom

    Marcy -  I just read that story before checking N4Ms : )

  • mikes mom

Carol thank you for sharing that wonderful story

  • Anna

WOW!!!  Another new Corpsman!!!  Outstanding, Kathy, and congrats!!  Love the video, Carol.  Have watched it twice now.

Hope everyone is having a great Saturday.  It is sunny and 72 in Dallas, so a perfect day.  Heading out to get some Tex-Mex for dinner...yummy!!  What is everyone doing this weekend???

  • velvetlace

It has been overcast here on the north coast of California.  We are expecting rain later this week.   I am baking a chicken in the oven, and my cats are smelling it and telling me that they want some.  I have never baked chicken before like a turkey, however there is not stuffing.  I used onions inside the chicken's cavities to mellow the poultry smell.

Oh, how I wish my corpsman son were here.  It has been almost 5 months since I have seen him last.  I guess that I am lucky that it hasn't been a lot longer.   I have to play and sing at mass tomorrow.   New music to prepare for since words have changed in some of the prayers, and we still do not have a Glory to God prepared yet.   I had to order some new music for it.  I hope you all have a great weekend.

  • mikes mom

Mary I started missing my son the second he hung up from saying good bye and that was 10  months ago ..... I think that's how we are made... LOL

Ruthella I am so excited about finally meeting you !

  • Anna

Getting my tube top ready for your cubs homecoming, Princess!!! Lots of happy dancing, too!!! An added bonus is getting to meet Thella Belle!! She gives great hugs and has a smile that will melt your heart!!
Sending you lots of love today, Ruthella, for your meeting with Dennis' parents. That is going to be hard.
  • velvetlace

Carol, Ruthella, and mikes mom-   You all understand how it hurts to miss your cubs.  I am grateful for your support!

My cub said that he is trying to get leave late in February, but nothing for sure, yet.

It started out raining now the sun is shining.  However we will be getting lots of storm on the north coast of California where I live.

I saw many crab boats out this morning with their lights on before dawn.  What an awesome sight.

Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!

Mary from the northcoast of California

Lorelei-    I agree with you that the new translation is very ugly.  It is like we are going back in time before the second Vatican council.  I loved one of the Glorias that we did called "Dancing Day."  I have ordered and received a new one,  Mass of St. Ann.  I am going to try it.  It is better than the ones we have received from the Oregon Press.  I pray every time I go to mass for our corpsmen sons and daughters that God will keep them safe from harm.   I

    Mary

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

    You got it!

  • Greg-and-Angela

Betty we are praying with you and for your cub!

  • Anna

Prayers headed your way, Betty.  I know that your cub is frustrated, but a great job will just be around the corner for him.  Hugs....

  • Kym Ship 11 Div 118

Betty, praying for a great interview and wonderful offer to some.

Gloria thanks for the information.  What a great idea.  I might be able to handle that:) Cub is in Virginia....more training.  Talked with him last night.  He is liking what he is doing and really sounded good.  Always nice to hear the smiles.  He is getting to use some of what he has learned.

    Have a great day.

I did it!  it's a little large, but I finally got a picture of Ro on here!  Here's my little angel for you all to see!  I spent the weekend with her.  I got there Friday at 8:30 pm, my daughter handed her to me, I spent 2 nights in Gramma heaven, while my daughter got some rest.  Then during the day we went shopping and out to lunch and I can honestly say I am very much exhausted, but wouldn't have traded it for the world!  She's just over a month old and is up to 8.5 pounds!

Betty, it's very tough having them unemployed and not in school either.  It's a crime, they tell our kids that they will be at the top of the list for jobs and school and it just doesn't happen.  Bug is still struggling, can't even afford to pay for his vehicle registration!  I'm praying Betty, our kids deserve so much and they are so well trained and talk about dependable, come on!  Okay, climbing back down now, but it really gets me rialed up.

Ruthella......iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!  You gotta show Ro's picture to Noah........

    Lorelai.....stay warm sweetie!

    Love you all!

  • velvetlace

BugsMom-   What a beautiful baby!!!   Sorry to hear about Bugs having a problem finding a job.  I keep waiting for the 1 percent people to create those jobs.  Ha!   I will say prayers that our young men are able to obtain good jobs.   I pray for my cub every day hoping that he will be happy.  Mary

  • BugsMom

Betty, that's wonderful news!  So glad to hear it, God is wonderful.  Those memories you are building are priceless, enjoy.  And pass me some of that wild plum jelly!  I'm on my 3rd cup of coffee, had to get up and get hubby to work, so we've been up since 4:30.  It was 22 degrees this morning and just like where you are, 50 is expected later, then we're gonna finally get some rain, I'm thinkin it will be snow, but what do I know!  Have a great one!

  • BugsMom

Yeah, that's how I feel, the more the better.  I think we're on a roll now, so I'm sure you're gonna get more too.  Anyone else want in on this.....?????

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Good news all around, great way to start the day!

Betty, since you're fine-tuning his resumé, you might ask about his 'brag sheets.' You may very well find good material to add.  And are there any national organizations pertaining to his Navy medical job that he can join right now, i.e. Association of Surgical Technologists, that kind of thing?  AST

  • velvetlace

It is raining and will be raining for the next three or four days.  We need the rain, so I am not complaining.  This will be a good day to read by the fireplace.  My computer is having more and more of a problem booting, so I ordered a new laptop.  I think I have used this computer a great deal especially since I have retired.   Take care and hugs to all!   Mary

  • Anna

I am with you, Carol......it is good to see this place hopping again.  All of you are such a wealth of information and advice.  This is the best place ever!!!  Love the picture of little Ro, Bugsy!!!  All that blonde hair....wow!  Grandbabies will wear you out, but boy howdy......it is a wonderful tired!!!  It is cold, but sunny in Texas.  Just saw on the news that Seattle is getting hit pretty hard.  Lots of snow!

Am having a sliced apple dipped in peanut butter for lunch.  Anyone want a bite???  LOL!!

Kathy - I'm glad I lurked today : ) There really isn't one a site or I was never able to find one... When your son/daughter are in BC there will be a group for that and then you meet with different parents ( like our group here ) and the Army will post pics... If they have any questions just let me know and I will be happy to help.. ..

I talked with our Ruthella last night : ) I am so excited about meeting up with her, she has no idea what she means to me .. I seriiouslywould not have made it through Ms 1st deployment without her help and experiance .. Those long nights that Ruthella, Marcy and I would be on LOL till after 1 AM ... That really helped this very nervous mom... Hey, Marcy wasn't she suppose to set us up with a Tall Good Looking Doctor ? ! : )

I you all have a wonderful day  : ) Off to the doggie park with my Hazel

  • Sharon P.M.

Hey y'all!  Hope all are well!

Hope interviews went well, jobs are offered, cubs are calling home, cubs are safe!  And OMG - what beautiful grandcubs these cubs are producing!!

Been on the road a lot of late, not much new to report from down here, in not so sunny FL today!  Raining!  But, it's been a while and we need it so not complaining :0)

    Have a wonderful Wednesday y'all!!!

  • Anna

Kindred spirits, we all are......LOL!!  Princess, I remember getting my first call from you.  I was waiting to go into jury duty and took your call.  You were worried about me after a post, you cried with me and calmed my fears.......my heart!!!

  • Greg-and-Angela

    Betty,

My dog goes running with me while I pray on my daily run. She is looking for a few three mile runs instead of the five miles she has endure all week, so good news is all part of God's REST. We can't wait to hear a good report for your son and his new job.

Princess and the Queen Ruthella in court together sound like a royal good time will be had by all. Enjoy!

  • velvetlace

You all should see the many seagulls that I have on my front yard driven to land by all of the storms coming ashore!   We are getting much needed rain, but I hope that we don't have river flooding.   It is very rainy here in northern California above Eureka on the coast.

    Mary from McKinleyville

  • mikes mom

Mary- Your getting the rain I think we will have on Friday : ) I'm in Santa Cruz County...  We really need the rain here !

Anna hows the weather in Texas ? You really need some the RAIN : )

  • btmom

Checking in with you ladies, got back with the N4M site a few days ago.  All is good here, just FB chatted with my sailor in Sasebo, all is well there, little snow here but we've had a very mild winter.  Looks like everyone is doing well here.

  • velvetlace

Carol and mikes mom-     I think that some of this rain will hit Santa Cruz County and Colorado, as well.   We know how to share here in Humboldt County!   :)    Anyway,  we shall see how far up the rivers rise.  We are 85 feet above sea level so we should be fine.  I would not want to live in the low lying areas of Humboldt County like Manila, Samoa, and King Salmon.   We really are behind on the rain, so we can use it.  I am just hoping that it is not too much too quickly!   :)

Mary in McKinleyville, CA  (12 miles north of Eureka)

It is raining again today, and it has been steady for over 24 hours.   I need to go out and do errands, but the weather is pretty bad.   There are supposed to be gale force winds out at sea.   We will survive....the alternative is drought, so I would rather have the precipitation.   Love to all of you!   I am sending rain your way!  :)

    Mary

  • Anna

Thanks, Mary......we need your rain in Texas.  Our drought is so bad.........all the ranchers have sold their cattle because there isn't any hay.  Our water source is so low that we are on Stage 5 water rationing.  No watering the yard, at all, and no new pools to be built.  Trees and plants are dying.  It is pretty scary.  Then, there were all the wildfires last year.  Hope that doesn't happen again.

Am planning a March or April trip to see my cub & family.  Can't wait......one of the twins is trying to walk.  Yippee!!!Well, best get back to work.  Hope everyone has a super day.  Almost the weekend :-)

  • velvetlace

Anna-     I am hoping that this storm comes your way in Texas.  It is pretty steady.  It is forecasted that we may have up to 10 inches of rain since we have several storms stacked up to come into northern California.   I live about an hour and a half from the Oregon border, so we usually get pretty much what Oregon gets in the way of rain.   We are fortunate to have the rain, and I am not complaining.  We moved here from the San Joaquin Valley where it gets hot like Texas.  I am glad to be close to the coast and in redwood country!   Inland about 40 minutes away is Big Foot Country around the Willow Creek area.   I have never seen Big Foot, but some of the natives have claimed to see Big Foot,   Have a great day!   Mary

  • Anna

LOL.....me, too, Lorelai.  Turn up the heat in Chicago for me, please.......I will be there Feb 18th for an Engagement Party.  I won't know what to do with that kind of cold.  Br-r-r-r!  Be safe!
