God I pray they went through it last night. I finally burned my candle to a nib. When I spoke with my son he said they would be going through BS21 on 13/14th. That was just last Saturday that he said that. So I really hope so. And never mind I am already threatening a few poeple that I will hang up the phone if my cell rings with the magic (847) number. KathyDee~ Is there someone over there near you that would be willing to take one for the team? Maybe it would make us all feel better!!!
Yes! me too!!! My Sailor said 83 and 84 went and he thought 85 and 86 were going next. Not sure what that means. He sounded so wonderful. He called me and he said that they were doing very well and that he got emotional during the capping ceremony. He said he tried to hold it together, but he looked at one of his shipmates and he was losing it. Said the RDCs shook his hand and congratulated him. He said he appreciates things so much now!
Ken: I have had the same question ask of me about The Bobster's dad and I going to PIR. We aren't going together but I have invited him to hang with us so Bobby doesn't have to choose. It's about The Bobster now, not about us :-)
navymom74, you just made my heart skip a beat! I've been so busy worrying about our Chicago plans today and watching to see folks blogging about having received their calls, I TOTALLY forgot that my kid is heading in to BS21 in just a couple of hours!!! Oh gosh, I need to get finished here at work so I can go home and concentrate properly on sending allllll my best supportive thoughts his way!! :D
Ken: Wise words from a wonderful caring Dad. Your son is very lucky!!! I agree with you!! I also told my son if there was anyone not getting to see family, they could come hang out with us. This is a time to celebrate their great accomplishments!!!!
God Bless.
navymom74:I'm so excited I can't think of anything except getting that phone call tomorrow. Good Luck to all the recruits going to BS!!!! Hang in there everyone who is waiting on the call and congratulations to all the New Sailors!!
Renick: I think he meant that they were up at 6 a.m. yesterday to do their work on that day....BattleStations doesn't start until that night. But I bet he is quite tired now (after being up that long)...hopefully he didn't have watch tonight and he can get to bed at 8!
Ok, that makes sense, I thought that was way too long. He did say that it was very real and quite incredible. I hope those that went through it get some sleep tonight too. Thanks!
I'll be praying for the others who are still waiting to hear, we are all with you and hope for the calls soon! Recruits becoming sailors!! Woo hoo!
apparently Bruce is a fave for the RDCs for watch- he had watch Sat night, up at 6am, Battlestations last night, and watch again tonight! Good news is he wont have watch during PIR weekend until Monday, and we will already be gone.
Nope... nothing... notta... Poeple need to stop texting me though. Every time my phone vibrates I get chills and it's not him. UGH!!! I know we will get the call soon. Keep posting on here so I can have an idea when and if we will get a call tonight.
OMG!!! im so happy for everyone that has gotten the call...and so anxious for the ones that are waiting by the phone...The call will come!!!! okay so DIV 805 will go tonight with what other ones...is this the last of them? Good luck for all going into BS21!!!
The consensus is that Div 85/86 went through together and we should be getting calls today. And the last of the Div 805/913 will be going through now. But we all know how the Navy can be and things change at a moments notice. I still pray they went through and all is well. Just haven't been able to make calls home yet. The anxiety of it all. And this is nothing for what they had to go through. I am trying to stay calm. I don't want to have a break down when I answer the phone. I already had a couple nightmares!!! He forgot to order pictures, he didn't pass BS21, they are holding him back... OMG!!! This mom's can't take that. LOL They were only dreams.. excuse me NIGHTMARES!!! I can see him trying to pull a stunt like that too though. His dad will hurt him if he makes me cry. LOL
Got my call about noon PST. I was so excited and relieved. My son said everyone in his division passed. He had watch soon after he was done. I'll bet he can hardly wait till bedtime tonight! Congratulations to all our new sailors and loved ones who have been standing watch in our hearts!! Praying for the next batch tonight!! See you all Thursday at meet and greet and Friday at PIR. I've still got to find a pink scarf. I did find pink gloves though.
Looks like only 83 and 84 went last night and called today. So that must leave the four other divisions, 85 86 913 and 805? to go tonight and call tomorrow?
That's cutting it close, if someone does not make it, and I am praying that they all do, then they don't march, right?
Karen, a school ID should work with a birth certificate and ss card for a 16 year old. For almost-adult teens, they do want some kind of photo ID, it's too hard to tell a 16 y/o from an 18 y/o.
It is possible that the remaining 4 are going tonight....but in a recent PIR group, some didn't call until the next day...but had actually gone through 2 nights before. Either way, calls should be coming tomorrow!
Sorry I'm running late on reply today. Work has been insane.
cajunldr, the distance from parking to MCPON Hall and the gate to MCPON Hall is exactly the same. However, both lcoations have recruits from the 900 divisions waiting for those who cannot make the long walk.
The handicapped parking is NOT located near MCPON Hall, it is in the regular parking area.
julessrn - the "van" they speak of is taxi minivans. They consider "taxis" to be sedans - that's why they get away with calling it "shuttle" services. Because in Illinois if it's not a 4-door sedan, it's lot legally a taxi, it is called a "shuttle" or "van." They are splitting hairs, and are NOT honest with people. During my whole weekend there, I never saw a single hotel van/bus. It was ALL minivan taxis (and a couple of limosines).
If you want to be able to see your sailors, do NOT sit up front or down low. When they march by, you are so close, all you can see is a blur of black coats as they march by. And when they are lined up, you can't see anything but the first rank of sailors. I was in the 6th row, and the only reason I could see my son is because he is 6'5", he and one other sailor stood a head above all of the other sailors!
The best seating is in the front row of the balcony, and the back/top rows of the lower seating area.
Mustang Mom, you CAN call your own taxi. I have phone numbers for two good, trustworthy ones that I used when I was there. If you want the number, message me. Sarge was good too. We spent the whole weekend using taxis and trains, so I met a bunch of them.
Renick, at this point, anything you write will probably not get to your sailor. The RTC does its best to forward mail, but with 500- 1,500 sailors changing addresses wach week, they don't don't do very well. Most mail will get returned to sender, or lost forever.
cajunldr, the distance from parking to MCPON Hall -vs- the gate to MCPON Hall is exactly the same. However, both locations have recruits from the 900 divisions waiting with wheelchairs to help those who cannot make the long walk. There is no formal "handicapped" parking near MCPON Hall
Congrats to all the new sailors....and many prayers to the ones going through BS tonight!!! May God watch over them all and give them the strength and courage they need to come together as a team and make it!!! Hugs to all. See everyone soon!!
