Hi everyone my son has been to FL and VA for schooling.  He came home for 2 weeks to visit in July.  It was the best 2 weeks of my life.  He is headed to his duty station in San Diego.  We will not see him till next year sometime.  He will be a CS and ejoys the Navy experience so far.  He graduated SHP 03 DIV 080 in boot camp.
  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

Hello friends!  I hope everyone on the east coast is doing well in spite of the hurricane.  I was sweating it out early in the week, when it looked like it might hit South Carolina where my sailor is stationed.  I was relieved for him when it moved northward, but concerned for everyone else. My prayers are going out for all those affected.

  • Sherri(Ship09 div078)

My sailor finally made it home for leave after graduating his A school.  What a huge change in him! No longer the at times sullen teenager but a full grown man.  I do have to say though it only took him about 4 days to leave his dirty socks on the living room floor! lol

Leaves on the 18th and then will head to Italy.  Hopefully we will get to visit him next year.  He's not excited or anything... just keeps telling us what time it is in Naples!

Hope everyone is doing well and are as pleased with the changes in their sons and daughters as we are with ours!

  • LornaJ (Ship 3 Div 81)

Hi All Alumni Friends!! My son graduated CTN school @ Pensacola FL last Thursday (2nd in the class 92 GPA!!) so very proud of him. He is due to come home for leave on Tuesday for 2 weeks. Hope all of your son's and daughters are doing fine and enjoying their Navy adventure.

  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

LornaJ - so glad your son is coming home for a visit, and congratulations Kathy on your son's graduation.

My son just got his promotion to E-3 and he will be coming home for leave in October for his birthday.  Got the whole countdown clock going on my phone again.  Can't wait.  Hope all PIR 2-18's sailors are doing great!  Love you ladies!

  • exxie

Hi girls!  So nice to hear about our group's progress and successes!  The Prince has had some hiccups, but is home right now on leave and then on his way to his ship by the end of the month (finally!).  He's so excited to be heading toward something besides more school.  LOL!

    Hugs to all!!

  • exxie

@kathy: HILARIOUS that YOU were able to get him reunited with his ship!  You'd think they'd tell a guy that stuff, right?  LOLOL!!  Oh well, we're all in it together, I guess.  We're heading out to the Farmer's Market this morning to get some salsa ingredients -- looking forward to some yummy stuff while he is here.  His sister is moving back home from Manhattan next weekend.  So that's going to be a whirlwind, having BOTH of them back in the house at the same time for the first time in a year.  Too bad they'll only overlap by two or three days.  But going to make the most of it, like you suggested.

    Happy weekend, all!

  • Renick ET

Hi all. It's been a long time since I wrote on N4Ms. My son is still in A school at the Great Lakes... seems like it will never end. Been almost a year since he left for the windy city last Dec 13th. He's an ET and I think he graduates in November. I expect more delays and hope to see  him over the Christmas holidays. I haven't been here for so long I feel like a newby all over again! So, I wonder if anyone know if there is going to be a stand-down this year in December, and if so, when they will leave for home. I'm so proud of him yet I still worry about his well-being from day-to-day. I feel more anxious as the holiday season approaches and the weather gets cooler. Thanks to all of you for being there for your kid and for doing one of the hardest jobs in the world! :)
  • Scrappy1(Carol)

Hey ladies.  Been awhile but wanted to shout out.  We are getting ready for son's last graduation, FMTB.  We laugh this is the third one in less than a year.  Who would have known?  Looking forward to seeing him, we will have his "girlfriend" with us.  Looks like there are wedding bells in the near future.  Who would have known? LOL!  Hope your sailors are doing great, I miss hearing from all of you!
  • LornaJ (Ship 3 Div 81)

HI All 2-18 Alumi's! Been a while since I have been on here but wanted to say HI and post what my son is doing. He graduated CTN school "with honors-2nd in his class" (so proud!!!) the end of Sept,]. He got to come home on leave for 10 days and then reported for duty NIOC Norfolk VA. He loves the job and the area, what more could you ask for-----Hope all your sailors are enjoying their Navy Life!

  • MustangMom (Ship03, Div 080)

Been a while since I have checked this site...My son just graduated ET A School in Great Lakes Oct 28. Been a long year!! Now just waiting for order to see where he

goes next. He has been close to home in the last year and we have bee really lucky to see him often. Now on pins and needles to see how far away from home he will go. He is glad to get this part of schooling over and he is defintely ready to see somewhere different and get out of Great LAkes.  Sound like everyone is still hangning in there with a rollar coaster of emotions. I don't think that ever ends!!!

  • MustangMom (Ship03, Div 080)

Hope everything works out for a great Chritmas in Orlando for you!

  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

Happy Thsnksgiving PIR 2-18 moms! Miss you ladies lots. So much has happened since last Thanksgiving when we were enjoying our last holiday with our soon to be sailors. Most of our are missing the presence of our sailor sons and daughters today. I know I am...feel like a piece of me is missing. I know that I have some ladies to talk to who understand exactly how I feel. We are forever bonded from the experience of helping each other through a difficult yet bittersweet time. I love you all! May God richly bless you!
  • PrdNavyMom2Sailors

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, what MountainMama says is so true.  My sailor seems a million miles away today.   Her ship is getting ready to deploy next month for about 8 months.  I really miss her.

  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

Well, it's December 14, the one year anniversary of my son joining the Navy.  It some ways, it seems like yesterday.  Yet in other ways, it feels like the longest year of my life. Dec. 14, 2010 started me on a two month cycle of anxiety, emptiness, joy, pride....hmmm, downright insanity.  Leaving my job at lunchtime every Thursday to run home and get the mail, only to spend the rest of the day crying over his letters.  Never wanting to be anywhere I couldn't get service just in case he would get to call. So many tears and prayers.  Then the phone call came and he said, "Mom, I'm a sailor!" I thought my heart would burst right out of my chest!  Remember those feelings ladies?  But through it all, we had each other.  I just wanted to say thanks to all you wonderful Navy Moms of PIR 2/18 and I miss our daily conversations so much!  Love you all!

  • PrdNavyMom2Sailors

I thought about it all day too, remember what it was like a year ago when my daughter left for boot camp.  Today she is aboard the Abraham Lincoln just starting out on a 6 month deployment.  We can keep in touch my email, but I will miss the daily texts and calls every couple of days.

  • MariaM

Wow, this came to my mind today....A year ago, my sailor left for BC....it has been a wonderful journey...miss him everyday and remember my runs to the mail every thursday!!!!...and all the plans to be at his Graduation on 02/18/2011.... What an incredible group!!!

To all of you Thank you for been there!!! wish you a very Merry Xmas and a Happy 2012!! My love to your sailors!!!

  • myboysmom(Ship09/Div078)

Happy One Year to all of you Mom's from PIR 2/18/11 and to your sailors too!!! Man this has been a year of many, many, many tears of sadness, lonliness and happiness as well. Unspeakable Joy and pride that I have never felt before in my life. The LOOOONNNNNGGGG wait for the infamous "KID IN A BOX", the even LONGER wait for the first phone call. The run to the mailbox EVERY Thursday for a letter, the don't bother me looks b/c I can't talk right now my son is gone to bootcamp...(haha), the always looking to make sure you have a signal and you haven't missed a precious call. And the final countdown to PIR 2-18-11, Oh, THAT WONDERFUL DAY!!! It has been quite a journey for us all but we have made it!!!!! Thanks ladies for always being there for me through my joy and tears and supporting me and listening to me when everyone else in the world thought I was crazy....lol Good luck to you and your sailors and give them all hugs for me...another Navy mom!!!

  • PrdNavyMom2Sailors

Kathyf- I bet your son is enjoying San Diego. The couple of times the Lincoln traveled down to San Diego, my daughter said the weather was perfect, better than the weather in Everett WA. The sailors stationed in WA say they wear their winter clothes all year long.  lol

  • PrdNavyMom2Sailors

Kathf- The fact that the Lincoln is moving to VA is going to be a big transition for the sailors living in Everett.  And for the sailors moving to Everett on the Nimitz, as well.  I'm very excited about it because my daughter will be  a lot closer to us.  We live in Ohio and WA is way to far to visit but VA is relatively close.  So we have a vacation planned for this summer to go to Virginia Beach.

  • cajunldr(ship 03 Div 086)

Well, one year down and let's hope, many many to go with our sailors!!!!!  My daughter left for basics on December 15th and can't believe it has already been one year!!!

Fair winds and following seas to all our sailors, Hooyah and have a Merry Christmas!!!

  • WhiteClay Ship 2 Div 913

Our sailor has been on hold for C school orders for 2 months, but doesn't seem to mind. It's nice to have a little break from school, and he's home now for 16 days, which is great. Next year this time he could be on a ship, so we're enjoying any time we get. Hoping for Virginia C school for FC, but whatever it is he's pretty chill. Unlike his mom, but I'm learning. =)

  • MariaM

To all this wonderful group of Moms, Family and Friends and specially to all our Sailors have a very Merry Xams and a Wonderful 2012!!

    Tons of hugs,

    MariaM

Ship 2 Division 913- Ceremonial Guard

  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

Merry Christmas dear friends! I'm heading to Beaufort, SC on Tuesday to spend a few days with my sailor. Hope you all get to see or st least talk with your sailors this holiday. May God Bless all our Sailors and their families!
  • WhiteClay Ship 2 Div 913

Sailor flew back to Great Lakes on Jan 2, and Jan 4 AM he texts that he was offered CIWS C school (he's AECF/FC) in San Diego starting March 5.  Three of his buddies took it too, so at least they're going together! Warm weather, sounds delightful!

  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

Hello all my dear PIR 2/18 friends!  Last year at this time, we were all preparing to make our trip to the Great Lakes and watch our children become US Sailors.  We were nervous, excited and proud.  We were also looking forward to meeting each other, to put a face with the ladies we shared our fears and joys with for many weeks.  Looking back, I see that I was much more of a wreck than I realized at the time, and I know I wouldn't have made it through without you wonderful, strong women.  Thanks again!  I really enjoyed the short time we spent together at the meet and greet, and I miss the comraderie we shared during those trying times.  Hope things are going great for you and your sailors.  Love you!

  • Sailor's Wife 64

Hi everyone I was just thinking about this time last year...lots has happened since then for me and my husband! We moved to Charleston, SC for nuke school, adopted a dog, found out we were expecting, and he graduated A-school. We had our baby on November 17 in the most peaceful and beautiful birth center birth. It was amazing! He's currently in power school and we're hoping for orders to Saratoga Springs, NY for prototype. I hope everyone is doing well :D

  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

Wow!  You have had a busy year!  My son is not too far from you, in Beaufort, SC.  He really likes it there.  I like it too, because we can visit back and forth every 3-4 months. Congrats on the new baby.  There's nothing like being a mom!  Blessings to you and I hope you get everything you desire.

  • exxie

Hi all!!  Time flies, eh?  So exciting to hear how Navy life is just moving on along for everyone. Congrats, Sailor's Wife!  I, too, miss the day-to-day updates but I do NOT miss the nail-biting and stress-out sessions over whether or not we would receive a phone call or letter in the mail.  :)

    The Prince has had an up-and-down ride so far.  He was dropped from the dive program at the end of Pre-Dive (he can't float!!).  Tried a couple of other things and finally went undesignated.  Currently, he's in Norfolk assigned to a carrier and is getting ready to be married (March 5th) to a Navy girl he knows from his DEP pool here, at home.  They "just happened" to both end up in Norfolk and now are pregnant with my first grandchild.  {{super grin!}}

WHEW!!  If you'd have told me a year ago . . . well, you know.  But here I am, planning another chilly and proud, proud trip to visit my sailor.  Love it!

  • Sherri(Ship09 div078)

I find I have been thinking about you all so much since we were all on the same page this time last year.  Getting ready for a cold trip to Chicago and excited to see our Sailors!  AND... finding the ever elusive pink scarf!  I have mine hanging in the closet but see it every morning when I get dressed.  Odd timing but I think of you guys daily then lol.  Everyone doing very well here.  No grandbabies but have 2 exceptional kids still.  My son is now stationed in Naples, Italy and loving his career choice.  He's been published in the Naval paper there (weekly it seems) and has had a couple of his broadcasts picked up by Military.com.  Pretty impressive for a E2 I think.  Sounds like he lucked into his job since there were no 1st class POs to take the billet.

    Hope everyone is doing well!

  • exxie

Hey kathyf, MY birthday is Nov 11th, so I will be thinking of your grandbaby when the time rolls around this year!  LOL!

Sherri, funny that you mentioned that pink scarf because I went out last year and bought all the scarves for me, my mom, and my daughter, since we'd all be in the stands at PIR.  And we're all planning to be at my sailor's wedding in two weeks in chilly Norfolk (not quite as cold as Chicago, granted, but chilly nonetheless!).  So, thanks for the GREAT IDEA that we will wear our scarves there, too!!  I think I'll go get one for my new daughter-in-law and her momma, too!  Heheheh

  • Scrappy1(Carol)

Hi ladies, I totally agree this year has flown.  My son finished corpsman school in GL and then went to Camp Lejune for FMTB.  He came home at Thanksgiving and married his sweetheart of almost 5 years.  He will be stationed at CL for 2 years.  Jeff and I moved the bride and his dog over Super Bowl weekend.  They are now happy and together and I could not be more proud.  I think of you often and smile.  God bless you, your family and most of all your sailor.  Love Carol

  • Karen H.

I too still remember the pink scarves.  I still have mine.  My son has been in little over a year.  He is currently on deployment.  I am so thankful for skype.  What a wonderful way to keep in touch.  I hope everyone is doing well.  My prayers are with you all.

  • Tchrmom Lisa

My son is on the Enterprise. Out since mid March.

  • PrdNavyMom2Sailors

I still have my pink scarf too.  Sometimes I wear it with my winter coat.  My daughter has been on deployment since December.  Really miss her.  In about a year I will be going through boot camp and PIR all over again with my son.  This group has been the best though.  I'm glad we still talk occasionally.

  • PrdNavyMom2Sailors

Kathyf, if we time this right, I will get to see my son graduate in his dress whites, since my daughter graduated in Feb. and hopfully my son will graduate in Aug or Sept.  One thing I learned with the Navy, don't even try to make plans!

  • PrdNavyMom2Sailors

I remember standing in that line outside in the cold waiting to get inside for the ceremony.  That wind was brutal!  It will be a nice change in the summer.

  • Karen H.

my son is on a smaller ship, not a carrier.  He really likes it.  He has been on deployment since December.  I heard from him and what a joy to hear his voice.  I thank God for the calls, letters and emails.

  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

Hello ladies! I really miss this group. From time to time, we should just check in and get caught up.
I got to spend a week with my son in July. Eleven of us traveled down and got a townhouse on Hilton Head and he was able to take a couple days leave to be with us. I was in heaven, but it was hard leaving him. He is getting ready to choose orders for overseas now and I'm a little nervous about where he will end up. But fortunately, wherever it is, God is still there.
Daysleeper, its good to hear about your son and his wife. When will you get to see him again?
How about everyone else? How are you doing and how are your sailors? We're getting close to the halfway point of their enlistment, but for me, its seems like my son has already been there four years!

  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

Wow Kathy! You are like the ultimate Navy Mom! You have my respect!

  • Tchrmom Lisa

Just checking in... Is is REALLY almost 2 years since we sent our kids off to bootcamp!???? Anthony has been aboard the USS Enterprise since March 11th. It has been a VERY long deployment, will end up being a week short of 8 months. Looking forward to it's homecoming, especially since the Legendary Big E will be retired and decommissioned upon it's return. His rate is so overmanned that he STILL hasn't been able to do what he was trained to do! Hoping he gets to before he leaves the Navy!

Hope this is finding everyone doing well!

  • Karen H.

Anyone remember the pink Scarves from 2011 BC Graduation? I still have mine.  It puts a smile on my face remembering that day at graduation for our sailors.

  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

Yeah, I remember! It was so much fun to get meet some of you wonderful ladies at the Meet and Greet. We're coming up on the 2 year mark of our kids ship date. Mine is Dec. 14. Sometimes is feels like it was just yesterday, and then other times, if feels like it's been 4 years already!

  • PrdNavyMom2Sailors

I still wear mine, it makes me think of graduation and you wonderful ladies and all the ups and downs we went through.  My daughter is stationed in VA and hopefully will be coming home for Christmas on the 2 year anniversary of the day she left for boot camp.

  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

I would like to wish all my Navy BFF's a Happy Thanksgiving! Still miss our daily conversations and will always feel close to you all because of all the stress, worry, joy, and prayers that we shared together. I'm pretty sure I woud have gone completely out of my mind without you ladies. Love you all!! God bless!

  • ProudMichiganMom

Thank you, MountainMama. Happy Thanksgiving to you too. I can't believe we are getting ready to mark our 2 year anniversary of our sailors' ship dates. While our sailors have all moved on to different assignments, I will always continue to follow our Navy Moms group. My sailor will not be home for Thanksgiving, but he is very happy in his current assignment, which makes me happy, proud and thankful. God bless all of the Navy Mom's and Dad's and their sailors. I will be thinking about all of you on Thanksgiving Day.

  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

Hello Navy Moms! My son just got his orders for overseas. He's headed for Souda Bay, Greece. I think I'll get an extra job so save some money and go visit him.
Well, this Friday is the two year mark for my son. In some ways it seems like yesterday, and other times, it seems like forever ago. Just thinking about it brings back all the emotions. But I'm so thankful for how far God has brought us all!

  • NukeMom(CVN-75)

Hello ladies. Dec 16th will mark my two years since my son joined. He just got his orders for the USS Truman out of Norfolk. He is still in Prototype School up in New York. He will not be home for Christmas this year again. But we are hanging in there with the carepackages.

    Hope everyone's Holidays are blessed.
  • myboysmom(Ship09/Div078)

Well today is the day....2 years ago was the saddest day of my life. I sent my boy off to Chicago to become property of the US Navy! I sent them a boy and they returned him home to me a man! I am so very proud of the man he has become. He has spent the last 22 months in D.C. in the Ceremonial Honor Guard. He is on the firing party and participates in funerals at Arlington National Cemetary, arrivals of dignitaries at the White House, ceremonies at the Pentagon and the Capitol. He has had some exciting things happen to him while in D.C. on of which was being able to participate in the burial at sea for the Great Neil Armstrong!!! He was so honored to be asked to participate in this. If anyone would like to see any of the pics you can go to Flicker.com and look up Neil Armstrong burial at sea. It was pretty awesome! Also, the most important is he met the love of his life while in D.C. We are so happy for him and she is a wonderful lady. We are so proud of him. He will be in D.C. until February then he will FINALLY get to go to A-school for Corpsman in San Antonio, TX. But he has enjoyed his time in the Navy so far. It hasn't been all roses but the good has definitely out weighed the bad. I hope everyone is doing well and good luck to you and yours sailors in their future endeavors. May everyone have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!! While we are celebrating a happy day those in Newtown have suffered a great loss. Lets keep them all in our thoughts and prayers!

  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

myboysmom - Today is the two year anniversary for my son too. I got a little teary-eyed today just thinking about it. He has been an MA at the Naval Hospital in Beaufort, SC. I'm going to spend Christmas with him this year. It's his third year away from home on Christmas, and mostly like he won't be home next year either so I'm heading south.

kathyf - Yes, I'm pretty happy with Greece. The world is such a mess and you really never know where the next hot spot will be, but I prayed and left it in God's hands and asked Him to put my son where He thought best so I have a real peace about his orders. I have been spoiled a bit with him being about 10 hours away, and being able to visit back and forth 3-4 times a year, but this is the Navy and we both knew when he signed up there would be periods of long separations. But we made it through boot camp, A school and many other trials and tribulations....we can make it through this as well. Many of you ladies have already had to deal with the separation, so let me know how you managed!
