This group started on 2/8/11 and we survived boot camp, laughter and tears. Now our recruits are sailors and headed in many directions, but we'll continue to support one another throughout!
I very much appreciate the feature that allows you to say STOP FOLLOWING !! LOL My mailbox went from 49 messages to 185 in about 5 hours! OMG! Hehe. Thank goodness there's that feature. I didn't realize their was any other option though, other than right under the comment box. You all are so wonderful. I am so looking forward to getting that first letter so that I can see just how my SR is doing. Isn't it Tom Petty who sang, "The waiting is the hardest part" ?
Wooooohoooooooooo-he called me! He needed some stuff for his security clearance. Sounds GREAT. For his division - it is day one of their training. They were held up for 3 days. Whew. Happy-sooooooo happy to hear his very contented and serious voice.
Mama, it sounds like my SR has his C school in GL as well. First A school, then C school.....(or that's what it sounds like anyway LOL)...uh, newbie here.
Mumzie...That is AWESOME!! I am so glad you got to talk to your SR. Oh what a wonderful feeling that must have been. I can't wait.
STRAIGHT FROM RTC's Facebook page: **Recruits will be on Sunday/Holiday routine on Feb. 21. That means they have free time between 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. to hygiene, study, iron, shine shoes, write letters, etc.** Yahoooo...maybe my SR will write me :)
Ugh...still no letter! i did do a cute thing today..wrote our SR a letter from our pet...he should get a kick out of it. Pets can give a comical and different point of view on everything!! However, reading it back to myself made me sad. But it is humorous. Fun thing to do.
I got my letter today!(breathing a sigh of relief)....He is Ship 02 Division 921 and graduation was confirmed for April 8th.He through a line in his letter that said GRADUATION WILL BE FUN. Almost like morse code. haha :-) I am already wondering how he ended up in a 900 division so now I'm even more curious. LOL
I am really confused. I thought I posted a question on the group 4/8/11 but it tells me mamaseal has chosen to moderate posts....am I on mama's "wall" or posting on a general wall? LOL
I asked JessicaB.....could you point me in the direction of the recruit ribbons someone was making and the link again to order division tshirts and it didn't post here. ... oh brother...maybe one day I'll get it.
Congrats!!!!! I've known his ship 11 and div 128 since this past Monday because of his recruiter that I hounded to death :), but I'm still waiting for my letter!!!!!
Just got the mail, and my first letter was in there!!! It was so nice, I can't wait for the next one! PIR is 4/8/11! Can't wait to see him. I'm so proud of him!
Momma - you want Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons - she makes the ribbons and has loads of information!
Mama Seal started the group but we don't really have a moderator, per sae. You are in the right place. Look at the discussions to see if there is one started for your ship and division. If not, start on yourself! Most people would love to chat. We are all just looking for someone to encourage us and stand along side us while we wait wait wait!
Mumzie...Yaaaaaaaaay!! Congratulations on 1) the letter! and 2) your son's leadership position. That is wonderful news!!
Koz...Yay for you too! You got your letter too. How wonderful and yes, how proud you must be!
Momma....Yaaaay for you! Another mom got a letter! LOL on the "more questions" My son was in choir for a couple of years in school, beautiful voice, judging from his 11/128 location, it was as I suspected....LOL His beautiful baritone voice is a secret! LOL Reading the posts on here about how they ask if you have musical talent, all I could think of is how there was no way my son would ever step forward and admit it. LOL In fact, the only reason the choir instructor even knew of his musical gift was that his big sister was an extremely gifted musician (she told on him), and I was one of the main accompianists in our small community. Perhaps your son confessed that he could sing? LOL
Lisa...Total bummer! LOL Yep, got another letter into the mailbox today and waited eagerly for the mailman. "Yaaay! There's the mailman. Boooo Nothing but bills! " LOL Dang it!
I got my letter today. It's official. PIR 04/8/11. Ship 11, Div. 124. I would love to talk to other moms who have recruits in ship 11, div. 124. Please send me a friend request.
I GOT MY LETTER!! My recruit's comments were hard to decipher. "I am having an okay time" Hmmmmm....not all good but not all bad. Complaints about his shots and I love you miss you!! Smiling right now!!!
Now I can really share in the excitement with everyone else!! The letter was here and I got a little note.
Funny thing.. I know that Denise was upset that her son did not send it to MOM. LOL - my son addressed mine "Stephanie" I wanted to slap him through the paper!! Hehehehe - I am so excited!
Welcome, t&t's mom! Please go to "view all" above this posting board and find the discussion group for 124. You can chat with others in your division there!
Momma2USNSailor: Here's the link for the division tshirts:
Click ENTER; Click Travel Discounts/Recruit Grad tab, scroll down to "mail order form" and click. Phone numbers are on the form
Ladies, these are division tshirts designed by the sailor(s) in your division with their very own logo. You won't be able to see the logo on the form, but the shirts are a wonderful keepsake for you and your SRs. Your SRs have a chance to order them too and may be surprising you with one! Better check with them before ordering.
Lala Ribbon Queen will be posting again on here soon, or scroll back to her posts in this group. You can send her a friend request-- after checking out her page to see the ribbons. She does a great job !
Also Momma2USNSailor: Sounds like you were posting on mamaseals personal page if it said she has chosen to moderate comments. That doesn't happen on this page.
Pre-Buds is in GL and lasts 12 weeks. It usually starts the Tuesday after PIR, so they should have the weekend of graduation to spend with their family.
Gina, my son is also going to pre-buds after boot camp. They will remain in GL for another 12 weeks. After about the third week, they will have liberty on the weekends, so you can always make a trip to see him. You can also order the DVD for graduation. Don't worry!! Other moms will be there to cheer for your son, and you will get the chance to see him before he leaves for BUDS in CA.
Momma2USNSailor- I am Lora, Aka Lala, I am the one who makes the ribbons to wear to PIR. I will be more than happy to make them for you as well. It, along with mentoring on this site is my way of paying it forward. To get more info on the ribbons just click on my name, it will take you to my page, on the left side click on add as a friend and I will accept your friend request and send you all the info for ordering the ribbons. Also on my page are pics of some of the ribbons I have made. Welcome to your PIR group and don't worry you will get the hang of this site. If there is anything you don't know how to do just ask. There are several of us here to help. :-D
I got my letter today. PIR 4/8/2011. Im so excited!!! My son has A school in Florida. Does anyone now if he will be able to spend the weekend with us or do they leave immediately for A school?
I have a friend whose son just left for CA. Her son was there for the 12 weeks, but his training started on the Tuesday, so they didn't have to wait for the class to fill up. It lasted, at least for his class, for the entire 12 weeks. Once he reached CA, they had several weeks to wait for a full BUDS class. She said they kept them "very busy" while they waited. I would think that would make them more apprehensive. I admit I have read and watched more than any mother ever should about that program!!!
Gigi, unless he is leaving on Saturday (some call it Saturday departure, most refer to it as grad and go). He is the only one who can tell you for sure and they don't usually know until week 4 or later. If he is grad and go he will get Friday after PIR with you and in most cases you can meet him at the airport for some extra time with him. His division number is not one of the first formed so there is a good chance you will get the whole weekend with him.
Hello everyone. I received my letter yesterday and our date for PIR is 4/8, not 4/1 like we thought. So, I guess I am new to this group. My son sounded fine. Such a relief. Looked at that envelope like it was the best Christmas gift I had ever received. And his printing was sooo neat. Never wrote like that at home.
Ragdollrae..Thank you for sharing that. LOL. I'm still chuckling when I think about it. I mean, what are our kids thinking sometimes? I was pleasantly surprised when I opened my letter, went straight to the portion that he wrote, and seen that it started with HEY MOM I LOVE YOU. I half expected..."Dear Mother," lol. Actually, after Denise posted what happened,I was nervous and thought maybe I haven't received my letter because HE SENT IT TO HIS DAD. :-( Kids..gotta love em!
Denise - he must have volunteered for something - like flags or background operations. I think the 900's are all the parade people. Not just musicians.
Denise, I've been reading and researching and what I've found were 900 divisions have some extra part in graduation. I've heard them called the Triple Threat Divisions, (music, singing, drill) but I've also heard that jobs such as standing at a doorway, or in the stands (security) or anything extra during the ceremony would land you in a 900 division. Some are volunteers and I've read stories about how someone was asked if they could swim, and just because they said YES, they were chosen for the 900 division. I have no direct experience but that is the conclusion I've come to. :-)
Ok , now I haven't recieved my letter yet, but does this mean that my son who is shipi 9 div 126 will PIR 4/8? His recruiter said that I can call next week, My son left 2/8
Yes Jessica. I got the form letter yesterday. I assumed 4/1 was our PIR but it is now 4/8. I bet you are right thinking there are others in the 4/1 group that thought the same. They should be getting their letter now also.
I also sent a form letter for him to fill in and one of the questions was how he wound up in div 920. He does play sax and tuba. Hopefully he will explain in more detail and then I will share with all of ya.
I hope I get my letter tomorrow, got the "box " on Valentines day! and since there won't be mail on Monday, I really hope that I recieve my letter tomorrow! Were your recruits able to write a note on the confirmation letter? If I remember correctly, when I got my older son's confirmation letter 2 years ago, I think he was able to write a note at the bottom.
For those of you looking for your first letter, we received ours exactly one week after the box came (we're in N.C.) There was only a small note scribbled at the bottom of the form letter, but my son's handwriting nonetheless!! Looking for more letters. He said he'd send more soon, but from what I've read about 900 divisions, he may not have as much time to write :o(.
Jessica: PIR 3/4 has 3 900 divisions. Funny....because they are a small group!
And...let's hope that when RTC updates the upcoming grad list, they put the correct divisions in! Remember a few weeks ago, they had one of them all mixed up and had to correct it.
Good Morning all, Lala commented that we have a small group so we can take extras. How do you know this information? I have extra family also and was wondering when we would know how many could come. They say only 4. Anyone has information on this
Does anyone here know if what the guys are writting at the bottom of the form letter is being read by others? Or do they have freedom to really write what is from their hearts.
texasmom: There is no guarantee for extras, but we veterans know after having been on these sites for as long as many of us have been what usually happens. Even in a PIR group with 14 divisions, we were told that all extras got in. I know divisions for this group are not on the RTC site yet, so let's wait and see how many you have even though I think Jessica has that figured out! It is well worth it for extras to make the trip so they can visit with their new sailors. The worst that can happen is that they will wait in the Welcome center until it is over....And, yes, you are correct. RTC will only guarantee that 4 get in to ensure that all families can have 4 if they would like. But as you will find out, MANY sailors have no family or friends who can get to PIR. Very sad....but that is why there are extra spaces.
Also, I believe that the words that your SRs wrote on the bottom of the form letter are their own...I don't believe that paper is checked. But remember...when they write these, they are still in "shock" phase of bc....it is a pretty abrupt awakening for them when they arrive up there...lots of yelling, assembly line processing, threats to motivate them to work hard, etc....as their personal letters start to come, you will see more of him/her in their words, even though you may detect a big step in maturity!
