Hi y'all I'm just wanting to check if y'all knew about any Greyhound buses going out there. I've been looking online but it ready doesn't give any info.
Chris'mom: Maybe you can go down to the Greyhound bus station in your city and check it out with them there. I'm seeing online that there is a bus station in Waukegan, which is right there by Great Lakes. There is also a train if you want to look into taking that.
has anyone with an SR in ship11 div 274 recieved a letter or phone call? we havn't heard from the kid since his form letter arrived 8 days ago...i thought i saw a blurrp on here about their RDC being very strict and not allowing them any privileges? is that true? he can deny him writing privilges? hold his mail from him indefinately? and NO calls at all ever? is this true? just trying to prepare myself..and understand... maybe i'm getting posts mixed up?
Reggie - From what I've been told, they cannot withhold their mail or keep them from writing home. In fact, they encourage them to write home. The letters are on their way... I was worried about the same things because I haven't gotten any letters myself. But I finally got a phone call from my husband tonight and said they sent out the first run of letters last Sunday. So I'm sure letters will come tomorrow! :)
Reggie - I saw the same thing you saw I believe! My son is also same ship/div and we have not received anything and I think the blurp came from a facebook post of a mom that got a phone call from her SR same ship/div - it sounded like they have been able to write just not send anything until today so hopefully we get something this week because I am a worry wart type mom who would like to know something - anything!!
They don't only encourage them to write home, they MAKE them write at least one letter each writing time. Can't say that they would ever take writing privileges away from them, but they may threaten that if they are using it for discipline. But normally, they are allowed to write and they receive their mail.
Remember, they can't write for 2 weeks and mail is held for that length of time also. When I say "write", I mean "mail out." I think kiminaz is correct. I bet there are a bunch of letters leaving RTC today from PIR 8/26!
Reggie: Just "google" Navy Lodge-Great Lakes if you want to get info on it.
sandi: What kind of items does he want you to send? Because they aren't allowed "care packages" persay. Are you talking about what he wants you to bring to PIR for him? Just be careful what you send up there because he can get in trouble for it. He needs to "clear it" with RDCs before requesting that you send. Phone cards are fine...a couple of bandaids in a letter are fine...contac lenses for PIR are fine with a small amount of solution....beyond that, be careful! He will have to open any packages in front of the RDCs.
Funny story...my son was there for Thanksgiving/Christmas 2009. He received a care pkg. From TX. Knew no one in TX then. Had no clue who sent it. No name. Had to open it...it was full of goodies...yum. Well, of course he was not allowed to keep it...he is not much of a sweet eater and not knowing who sent this kind of freaked him out anyway--didn't matter...he couldn't keep it...and they grilled him about who would have sent it...so of course the RDCs confiscated it. Later on, he saw them eating the goodies in their office...thought that was funny! Never did find out who sent the pkg to him. Strange.
Oh, ok...I'm sure those things are fine...he will just have to open in front of them. You may want to scan the pictures you send ---collage style ---on a sheet of paper since they have such limited room to store things.
Sandi, That is so wonderful to be able to talk to him! My daughter is in the reserves too. I hope that means that she gets the whole weekend too. Does he have to go back to base each night or do you get to keep him the whole weekend? I have been waiting to make reservations until I here from Kira about when she leaves for A school.
DeniseC - if you are referring to my comment of seeing a "blurp" coming from facebook - it was just meant as a "comment" from facebook that someone posted here for us to see.
I forgot to tell you about her Form letter I FINALLY got on Friday....at the top where it says Dear ___________....she actually wrote "Mumsie". I figure at the time she filled it out she must have been in fairly good spirits.....I can't wait for a real letter from her.
Sorry, I made a mistake. Then I was gone all weekend to a family reunion came back today and saw what I had written. It is ship 11 Div 273 sorry. I'm so pre-occupied these days it's a wonder I know my name.
wk 4 has officially started for my SR and still no letter. Just the form letter and kid in a box. I miss him so much. I just wish I could talk to him and hear his voice.
Ship numbers are just the number of the building their barracks are in. Usually brother divisions are in the same ship. But one PIR group can have several ship numbers. Doesn't matter. They only train with their brother division anyway.
Alright....just like on the RTC discussion board...gotta share with you guys....my big Oklahoma WhooooooHooo!! Hope you all heard that....I'm on cloud nine! Came home from work today to find a REAL letter in the mailbox. It'll take a while for my feet to hit the ground!! She sounds awesome....sooooo proud of her!!!
Sharon, can you add an administrator to this group just in case? Not expecting you to go anywhere--we hope :-) , but we currently have two PIR groups where the creators are not active (one just literally disappeared and the other's son is being medically discharged). This leaves the groups in a tight spot....we can't even get division numbers posted up top without them since they left before this could be done. No one else can do anything with that page now.
It is a just a precaution and you can ask the ladies on here if anyone would like to be "backup" to you should there be any issues on the board. They could scout the board for inappropriate posts which both she and you can delete...so far, this group has been wonderful about not posting last names or inappropriate material. But sometimes it happens!
I just got a letter from my daughter today. Carrying it around like a security blanket. LOL My questions though is she asked me to mail her debit card because she said she will need it to buy pictures and stuff. I am a little worried about mailing this. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or if it is ok to mail?
She also asked me to mail her stamps because she was not sure if she would be able to get more (or have time to purchase more). Just in FYI for those who have or have not received letters
Rhonda - That's fantastic! I'm so glad you got a letter! Makes you feel so much better. I'm sure you will be reading it several more times before the night is thru. :)
thank for the info Ladies! REmember, Tomorrow is TRIVIA TUESDAY! go to the U S Naval Recruit Training Command page on Facebook...they will post a trivia question at 10 am Great Lakes time...all the answers can be found within the t______ site ... OH SUGAR! i forgot where ...dad gumm it anyhow!...I'll be back with that info! dang it...anywho the prize is a picture of your SR's DIV!!!
GRRRR....feeling like a total DUFUS! sorry ladies...i haven't remembered yet...or found the answer...go figure...but i've posted the question on the US Naval RTC facebook page so hopefully we'll get an answer...Night All! Our SR's and Y'all are in my thoughts and prayers!
Tay's mom-My son didn't have his debit card with him when he was in bootcamp and I think they took the money out.I know he had got the big package of pictures because it came with the video and the book.As they get more privileges they will be able to get more stamps.I never sent any of that stuff to my husband or my son in bootcamp they used their own money.Next payday for military they should be getting paid.I forget what it is called but they get an allotment (it may be called a chit or something like that)to be able to buy things they need.I know later on if they have done good they get to go buy goodies.I know my son bought several phone cards because one of the competitions they won they got to go get food and internet. My son got him some subway and got on facebook and made lots of calls.I think that day for him was called sailors heaven.
I was wondering when, how we get their official NAVY picture. My son took a little cash with him, but closed his bank accts here and opened a Navy FCU account. Hopefully, he gets money from that, if needed, once his first payday hits, if he needs it.
Hello All! I'm here supporting my SR! We are best friends that fell in love...the crazy, wonderful thing is that we met this past spring through our mutual best friend! Since I'm neither a mom or a spouse I am sweating out the wait for a letter. He arrived in GL on 6/30 so I believe he is in this PIR graduation group...I'm thankful to learn that letters are starting to come in to all of you! My situation is so different, my SR is closer to my age & is following a family tradition a little later in life than your boys. I know he will watch out for them & encourage them! I'm so proud to be supporting him!
for some reason i can't seem to post the link to the site which the tuesday trivia questions are pulled from...the is part of it...http://www.bootcamp.mil/ but obviously i must be tech impaired because when you click it..it goes no where...if you go to the facebook page for u s naval recruit training command you will find it...sorry everyone...jsut would be great if we could all work together to get a pic of our DIV ... :)
Yes, they do. They are called 'integrated" divisions. They train together....but thankfully...don't SLEEP together! :-) They have separate barracks, usually with females from other integrated divisions. There are no all-female divisions, but there are all-male divisions. My son was in two of them (had been asmoed and joined another all-male division afterwards). Someday, I bet there will be some all-female divisions!
Oh, ok, Sharon, on the administrator. But wouldn't hurt to add Jana too since she offered. Thanks, Jana! And, thanks Sharon, for all you do for your group here! You are a very hands-on group creator which is a great thing!
The trivia questions on FB are pulled from info on the entire site, not just the family guide? I thought it was just the guide ... but it makes more sense that it is more than that! Does anyone know for sure ?
I just found out that my daghter's division lost their phone call privileges on Sunday too (ship 2 div 941) but will be able to call on Friday if they are good. She also says she wrote letters on Sunday :)
The trivia question comes from anywhere on that site...I don't know how some people find the answer in seconds. It took me five minutes to find it today...and I have yet to find last weeks!
People read and study the website through out the week... they already know the information. So unfortunately, that makes it that much more difficult. A lot of people don't have time to study the website like that because they work. What div is your SR in again Doreen?
I found out about Kira's division losing it's privileges because she had to call me this mornng for contact info for security clearance and I asked her about it. It wasn't supposed to be a social call, but I tried to sneak in questions while I was looking up addresses and phone numbers for her :)
