I hope you all get one today too! I am in a puddle of tears. I've kept it together so far, then seeing him in the pic just opened the flood gates! But all good/happy/proud tears!
Sparkling - congratulations on the pic!! I would be the same way you are. Yesterday was our mail day and the only thing that we got were letters for his little brother and sister - nothing for mom or dad. That's ok though - only 8 more days until we get to see him!
Mann-Clan, I am sorry that your son had to make that call. I am sure they'll let him retest rather quickly. I continue to pray for all the recruits in our PIR group!
Thanks everyone. Mike's Mom I know what you're saying. They seem to have grown close. I'm still hoping he can pass tomorrow and go through Battlestations with another Div next week and still graduate with his Div. There's still hope. We still plan of flying in next Thursday afternoon regardless. The tickets we bought are non-transferable/non-refundable so we may as well use them.
Dianne, does the same apply if a recruit at the end of next week doesn't make it through BS? For instance, if they happen to be in one of the last groups to go and don't make it on their first try, would they go again on Thurs and still grad on Friday?
Sorry if this has been covered, but my family is asking me about this. My SR goes last next week. I wasn't sure what happens to a recruit in the last group if they should need to repeat BS that close to PIR??
I'm so excited for the ones getting calls in the few days! Mine won't come until the 24th so I have to TRY to be patient... not easy for this mom, that is for sure ;)
I got a letter today too! It was dated August 9th though. Wow, that takes a long time to get here! She did not send a picture but said she saw hers and that she looks exactly like her sister's picture from her bootcamp 3 years ago. Makes sense, they were both 19 in their pictures. My SR is 19 and was in DEP for several months. She wanted to finish her 1st year of college before she went in. Makes sense for her to join the Navy seeing her sister is in the Navy, but her boyfriend is in National Guard, her best friend is in the Air Force, and her room mate's boyfriend is in the Army. So I think she looked into all the branches before deciding. She even went to the Marine recruiter, but I told her no way! I was very happy about her decision to join the Navy!
We got a letter too. Of course it was written before the run test. He was talking about the joys of the tear gas chamber. As an Army vet I tried to warn him but unless you've experienced it before it always sounds like you're exaggerating a bit to scare them.
We got mail...5 letters to be exact. One for each of his brothers, and 3 for dad. He said the gas chamber wasn't bad, but definitely would not want to do it again...lol, who would?
Five letters?? awesome! Do you all share (like we do at our house)? I've found that my son says different things to different people, so we get more info that way.
We got 3 letters, she says she has more days available to write which is good cause she's now on watch so she lost part of the ,holiday time she would've written.... & post card for her friend & brother no photo but she said she bought them, cost her around $200 but worth it.... I wrote today telling her I d pay her back :) & reminded her to buy the dvd too
Manncan I read shannons post on Facebook asking the navy about it...I have been worried about Brit she's written in every letter she's still struggling with 60 situps I too have no clue how many she's done...or if passed even in today's letter.... So glad they get more chances...
My SR is 18 and will turn 19 on 8/26. his PIR date. He thinks that's pretty cool. He had talked with a Navy recruiter off and on his whole senior year, but had decided to attend the local junior college in the Fall of 2010. Right before classes would have started, he decided that he was going to go to the Navy instead. He didn't want me to have to sign for him, so he signed for himself on his 18th birthday. He was a DEPPER from August until when he shipped out on July 5.
Stacey-When your SR runs Battlestations it is a tradition to burn a blue candle from what I've read. I've gotta go get one--at least I can burn it in the hotel room wherever we end up Tuesday night--don't think it would be a good idea to burn it in the car...lol
The blue candles are also burned when they are "in the fleet" or in A School. Any time that you are thinking of your sailor or he/she is going through a difficult time, hard test, etc. Up to you when you burn them! Just shows that you are thinking of them!
Yes, caylex: If they fail BattleStations the first time, or don't pass their PFA until the Thurs before PIR, they would do BattleStations that night...be in the balcony at PIR, too tired to march, but in uniform.
Very few fail BattleStations so I wouldn't worry. I have never seen a SR miss PIR due to failing BattleStations. They always pass that 2nd time and only 1-2 percent fail the first time, if that many.
My daughter is 20...decided to join the Navy in February. She had been a part of Army JROTC all through highschool then did 1 1/2 years ROTC in college when she decided on Navy. We are very proud of her decision and support the branch she chose 100%!! Can't wait until 8/26....just won't get here fast enough!
I've said my prayers this evenng and have my blue candle burning!!
Stacey-I could be wrong, but I thought the first group was going through Battlestations tonite, so the calls wouldn't come until sometime tomorrow, but again I could be wrong...
Can't wait for posts from out pir, become sailor...wow they have all come so far! " I found some of the navy's oh best things tonight, a nave scrabbooj, navy letters & other cool navy stuff too!
Thinking of HIM tonight... a very special night for DIV 269 along with a couple others. Can't wait to hear from him tomorrow... after becoming part of the Proud US Navy!!! MY SAILOR! <3
