You may have heard the news that a Navy jet went overboard on the Truman on Monday (4/28/25).  Fortunately no one was seriously injured.

Hi all - Happy Thursday!  B,C & Oliver arrive on Monday! I can't wait.  We're doing Disneyland Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Celebrating hubbies 65th birthday and Oliver's 2nd.  And they'll be here for Mother's Day too! Woohoo!

My husband got our daughter's "I'm a sailor" call yesterday! We officially have a sailor! It's so exciting and I am so proud of her! Next stop A-school, MMN!

Semper Gumby, always flexible, is the Navy way. It is just so sad because it happened just a few weeks before they were due home. I feel especially bad for the spouses with children who were so looking forward to Homecoming. As a Mom, it isn't quite so bad.  My son was never in a hurry to be the first off the ship--he always volunteered for the first watches when they got home. We both thought "what is another few hours or a day when you have already been gone so long"? But then, we saw each other a lot when he was home without either of us traveling for a limited visit.

CanukaVet - Your Sailor sounds like my son.  He has been taking his Christmas leave either before or after Christmas so the Sailors who are parents can be with their kids on Christmas Day.  It makes me so proud!  You know these kids that drove us crazy when they were young have turned out to be decent human beings!  :-)

My Sailor will PIR 05-08.  I am so proud and looking forward to following his new Journey with the Navy Nukes A  school. What a ride so far!

NavyMomThrower and AZ_Raccoon -  Congratulations to you and your Sailors!!  The adventure continues! My sailor graduated Nuke A school and will start Power school soon.  Nuke School is a great place and they will make many new friends. So happy and excited for our new Nuke Sailors!!  Hopefully they fly together to Nuke A school!!

I believe this is an extra special one for some of our members. Have a wonderful day with your sailor! Savor every moment. Make sure they are back to RTC a little earlier. Hopefully, they fly out on their designated day and are not placed in THU. (Temporary Housing Unit).

THU - Temporary Housing Unit - 

There are occasions when sailors are held at RTC (I think they are actually moved to the other side where the A school sailors are) until they can be transported to their A school. While they are in GL, they are placed in THU and are assigned various menial jobs, I believe. There are various reasons that sailors are in THU, sometimes there are weather conditions at the A School location which prevent transferring new sailors to those locations until the weather situation is over. Other times, it is a matter of there not being room at the A school for new sailors to be housed there until other sailors have classed up. And thirdly, as was almost my son's situation, there may still be something in the medical evaluations that are needing to be completely reviewed before the sailor is moved on to their A school. - Hopefully, this later is not as much of an issue now as it seemed to be around the time that my son and subsequent sailors were being reevaluated or their medical eval was not completely signed off on. 

If your sailor ends up in THU, please come share so we can help you connect with someone else who may have had a sailor in THU. 

Hi all - Happy Tuesday!  I'm back from vacation and today is Oliver's 2nd birthday!  We had so much fun at Disneyland and California Adventure for 3 days - I need a vacation from my vacation lol!  They flew home yesterday and I miss them already.

I just got back Monday from my trip for my daughter's PIR. Now she's in SC! She's on hold and doesn't know a start date for her classes yet. She did say that there are a ridiculous amount of spiders there!! It's so nice being able to talk to her more. I was in a FB group for her PIR, does anyone know if there is a FB group for Sailors at Nuke School? 

Hi AZ Raccoon - I know of two groups as I am a member. I could try inviting you… can you PM me with your Facebook info. Or you can maybe search them and request to join. 

I'm not sure if any of the new Nuke Mom's group members drove to the PIR, but I got a note telling me that I had 14 days to sign up for the Plate Pass with the Illinois Turnpike authority to cover any plate pay tolls that I may have gotten while there, before I was fined on top of the tolls. I did sign up but as of yet there are no charges on my account.  You can cancel in a month. Oklahoma's plate pay is not the same so this was new to me. Just FYI

This is one of my discussions above - Nuke A school daily schedule - I don't know how much has changed from when my son was there, so feel free to post any updates in the comment area at the very end of the discussion. My son helped me write this discussion so I could share it here. 

Wishing our Sailors who started A School today much luck!

Does anyone know if the sailors get leave when A school is complete? My daughter officially started classes this week!

AZ_RACCOON - B had leave when he graduated A school.  We went for the graduation, spent a couple days with him after and then he and some friends went to Florida for a bit.  I think it will just depend on how quickly they have enough to start a class.  Your daughter should have that info available to her from her SLPO.

AZ_RACCOON - Yes, they do get leave, but for my son, it wasn't immediately after.  They have A school graduations each week, and when they have enough classes ready, all of them go to Power School together.  That waiting time is called T-track.  

For my son, his was the first class to graduate after the Power School group started, so they didn't get to take leave immediately.  All of the other A school classes got time off immediately after graduation, but his leave was about 10 weeks after graduation (just before Power School started).
