mrsb... if u have not found someone to take ur son's duty, message me.  I'm going mid October to visit my grandson, and he might need a return..  Even if not, I might guilt him into it!  lol

  • ProudNavyMom#1

mrsb!!! So excited for you!!!!  Big hug for you and your Sailor!!!!! I texted my Sailor to see if he can switch duty with yours!! I'll let you know as soon as I hear from him!!! Have an awesome and safe trip there and back!! Enjoy your Sailor!!! Much love,

  • Navymom26

Good Morning Mrsb did you get my email?

  • mrsb

Yes I did!  I asked my son if he knows your son but he said he didn't.  I'm so grateful for all the offers of help from you lovely ladies!

ProudNavyMom thanks so much!!  My son said he can't do anything about next Sunday so we'll just fit in visits when we can.  He's still working getting someone to cover his shift on the 5th so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  I appreciate all of you volunteering your sons!   I know mine would switch with someone to help out as well.  :)

  • ProudNavyMom#1

mrsb, you are a faithful woman of God, just keep your eyes on Him.  Who knows, He might surprise you with extra time to visit with your Sailor.  You are so blessed to be able to touch him and love on him even for a short time.  I am so happy for you and your Sailor! He will be so glad you went there to see him. :-)  Enjoy your trip there and back.  Don't let the bumps on the road get you down.  Our Lord may just surprise you as He always does those who love Him! :-) Again, I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU AND YOUR SAILOR!!!! You get to touch him and smell him, and kiss him!!! How blest thou art!!!!! Love you!!!

  • mrsb

ProudNavyMom, you're making me cry!!  I would like to meet your son and give him a big hug for you!!  I'll leave the kisses to you though!  :)

  • ProudNavyMom#1

HAHAHAHA MRSB you are so funny! A hug for my sailor will be great!!!!!!!!!

  • mrsb

Hey, does anyone know if we are we allowed to post photos of our Sailors and their friends on here?  I'd like to take some photos of my son and some of your sons but am not sure about the whole security thing.  thanks!

  • ProudNavyMom#1

mrsb, the photos can be uploaded here but will take a bit of time as they will need to be reviewed by the site owner and Okayed to share.  Make sure you don't put names of Sailors on titles, not even your own Sailor's. I've uploaded two pictures before and after being approved, everyone could see them.  Just let us know on here that you have uploaded them.  I've seen many add pictures right here. Not sure how they do it....

  • ProudNavyMom#1

Okay, got to go color my hair now.  By to everyone! hahahaha

  • mrsb

Thanks ProudNavyMom!  Have fun with that!  Almost time to do mine again too!  ;)

  • mrsb

Ok, so my co-worker was just complaining because she hasn't seen her son in TWO whole days, since she dropped him off at Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday-TWO whole days!!!  Give me a break!  It's been almost 4 months since I've seen mine and I know most of you are in the same boat, so to speak!!!!  Sheesh!!  Some people just make me crazy!!!

Stylist 613' I went to Groton in may to visit my son , it is beautiful there, stayed a the navy lodge it is 5 mins. To base, my son stayed with me. Lots of state parks around for hiking , new London has great downtown area lots of shops and restaurants. Mrsb did your son get to switch duty my son switched, hope he can find someone , he needs to ask around.
My Hearst go out to the families of the two lost sailors from the helicopter, keep them in your prayers. Light that blue candle.
  • shirl

Sorry I misspelled , my heart goes out to the families of the two missing sailors, praying for them.
  • Annette

mrsb, are you on either of the fb pages, Loved ones of Groton or BESS?

  • Annette

BZ to my son and other boys who had their big BESS test today and did so well! 92 for my son!

  • mrsb

shirl, not yet.  I know that next Sunday he has duty so we'll just try to fit in as best we can.  He's still working on Oct. 5th though.  With ProudNavyMoms prayers I'm sure something good will happen!

Annette, I'm on the loved ones page but haven't been there in a while.  So many places to be!  I'm now just thinking of all the stuff I have to get together before saturday morning!  Whew!

  • Annette

How far is your son into A school mrsb?

  • mrsb

Annette, he just finished ATT and is ACU for Techno.. Sounds like I know what I'm talking about huh?!!!  LOL!

  • Annette

Had not heard of ACU before. My brother took a pic last spring of the guys who had not classed up or who had not gotten orders yet, shoveling sidewalks and doing other snow removal...My son is almost done with BESS, grads Oct 4

  • mrsb

I know he will be home for Christmas so that will be wonderful!

stylist 613, I don't know much at all about Groton but after next week I will!  I know my son loves it there, likes the scenery, the weather (not so sure about that when it starts getting real cold though!) loves just everything.  I think he also likes the fact that he chose this life and is making his own way.  SO proud of him for that!!

  • mrsb

Annette, I think ACU is awaiting class up-I think they all do it!  My son said he is doing a lot of "cleaning" right now, which is something he never did at home!!

  • Annette

OK, thanks. Now I remember seeing that somewhere.

  • IAJ

My son graduates in Nov and just got his orders.  He is staying in Groton.  He seems happy although I know his first choice was San Diego since we live in AZ.  We do have family in Jersey so he can get to them when he needs a family fix.  Now on to get his car to him:-)

  • mrsb

Congratulations on your son's graduation IAJ!    My son loves it in Groton!  We'll see how much he likes it when it starts getting really cold!  My son's first choice is also San Diego, which would be great as we only live 90 minutes away.  He won't graduate until next year though.  :/

  • OklahomaMama

MrsB my son said he will do your son's watch. I can give you his phone number or room number if your son still needs someone to cover during your visit.
  • mrsb

OklahomaMama, are you serious!!!  You mean for Saturday the 5th?  I can't tell you how happy you've made me!!  I'm seriously crying right now!!!!  Thank you and him so much!!  I'll be emailing you!!!

  • stylist613

Wow mrsb and oklahoma your making me cry
  • mrsb

oklahomamama, I sent your son's information to mine.  I know that ultimately it's up to his section leader whether or not they can switch, let's just hope for the best!

  • shirl

My son graduates in two a half weeks and he wanted to stay in Groton, I wanted him to go to Georgia cause I am from the south, and he got Washington. He told us they did not even look at the dream sheets. The navy sends them where they are needed, he is happy now going to Washington. I am glad for him.
  • mrsb

shirl, Washington is beautiful!!  Especially where the base is in Bangor; you really need to go visit him there!!  Oh and congrats on the graduation!!!  :)

  • ProudNavyMom19

Hello everyone, brand new to this, my boy is graduating boot camp on Oct 18th and he is going to Groton for his "A" Schooling, my question is if anyone can answer, will he be sent to Groton Saturday after graduation?  If so, if I go there, will he have free time to spend with us before starting classes on Monday?

  • shirl

I will visit , it i s beautiful I have heard, mrsb glad you found someone to swap with your son. I was just talking with my son and he said some section leaders are very good about the swaps even if it is past the 5 days, your son should ask. I know you will have a good time, when he is on duty he has to stay on base , you should be able to go to base and see him but you cannot go out of his presence. Check into that, even if you just sit and talk somewhere.
  • mrsb

Thanks shirl!  You've told me more than he has!!!

  • tidefan

hello. My son just got to boot camp last night. The plan is sub school next. Just wanted to say hello

  • mrsb

Welcome tidefan!!  I recognize your name from BC for moms.  :)

  • amandamomof4

Welcome to all the new moms :)

My son will be leaving soon too almost done with A school

Shirl I am not sure if anyone in this batch got to go where they wanted. My son got Virginia and that was not on his list at all. His first choice was San Diego and a couple guys in his class did get SD but not him :/

Oh well it will get us out to the east coast for a visit again hopefully our younger girls will be interested in the history we will drag them around to see :)

  • Annette

ProudNavyMom19, I think I can safely say that most of the sailors who headed to Groton after bc left the Saturday following PIR. My son initially thought he was going to be held over at GL up to a month before flying to CT, but he left the next day. Was supposed to fly out at 7:30am, but flight was cancelled due to mechanical problems. A 10:30am flight with other sailors on it bound for CT left on time. My son was in Groton that night. He graduates BESS Oct. 4. If you want to know anything about the area, I was born on the sub base and raised in Mystic, right next door to Groton. Welcome! Check out the fb pages, Loved Ones of Groton and BESS.

  • ProudNavyMom19

Annette thank you for the information, greatly appreciate it.  Congrats on your son graduating.  Can't wait to see new places.  Going to check out the fb pages you recommended.

My son spent the day Sunday with his uncle, my brother. This is him hanging out in my hometown, Mystic.

My brother and my son. Dennis calls him the Funky Uncle (when my boys were younger, he was Unky Dave, which became Funky Unky.)

  • mrsb

    very nice Annette!!

  • FATHOMOM

thanks for sharing the pic's Annette! beautiful -  We are looking forward to seeing Mystic. Hooyah!

  • Johanna

Shirl, my son drove from Groton to the Sub base in WA, solo and had a blast. He got there last week and he loves it. We are an outdoor family and I have already joined a hiking club out there. Loking forward to exploring with my son and on my own!
  • Johanna

Hey tidefan , welcome!! I have two squids and they are very happy on their Subs.
Lots of great Moms here with all kinds of great information... ; )
  • FATHOMOM

Oh, I like that.....squid. A retired NAVY Submariner used the term "bubblehead"....I prefer squid. Johanna-happy to hear your son is happy with WA. How long was he in Groton?

WELCOME tidefan! This is really a great group of Mom's. Welcome to NAVY BOOT for Mom's.....let the journey begin. I keep your Recruit & family in prayer. It is quite an adjustment for ALL. An honorable choice for your Recruit -it is truly all good. Cry all you want....we all did....still do! I speak from our experience,  w/BOOT, it was a great, challenging, exciting time for our son. He truly enjoyed the experience.  He was ready for it (thought about NAVY or CoastGuard since 6th grade). He did admit it was tough missing family & friends & girlfriend - they will support one another. Their senior officers help them with work towards and with teamwork. The beginning is tough, allot of new rules, allot of yelling, allot of IT (intense training - when Recruits mess up) getting to know other new Recruits, more yelling!, Recruits are held accountable not just for themselves but for one another, they eat well, they sleep hard. It is up to the young man who left home for NAVY BOOT to become Sailor you will soon see at P.I.R. Your son will thrive and learn and do well. Be sure to write lots and lots  of encouraging letters, send pictures, send local newspaper articles, silly letters from the family pet (they love that!), fav. song lyrics - they gather together and share everything that comes in the mail. It is good for ALL!! Big Hug! God bless and guide your Recruit!.......now I am going to cry!

Welcome Proudnavymom19- Congratulations - Oct.18th P.I.R.will be here before you now it!!! Hooyah!! How are you doing? How is your Recruit doing? I keep him in prayer...you guys too! Oh, it was not that long ago for our sons P.I.R. in May. Soon your son will be in Groton and loving it! It is not NAVY BOOT anymore. Our son loves it in Groton. Groton holds our Sailors accountable, keeps them busy with classes - all kinds of classes. It will be a wile before your son starts A school. As a submariner there are several qualifications, training and more classes that must be completed successfully before even thinking about A school. We are here for you....just ask. We have plenty to say! I have said enough, taking up lots of space. Ya see what happens when I step out for a little while? I need to get a fancy phone so I can receive all of the updates on my phone. My phone is practically cell/rotary! I receive them only on my e-mail. Take care ALL! Hooyah!
