I'm so excited for Christmas! I haven't looked forward to Christmas this much since beige my dad passed away 3 years ago.can't wait to see my Sailor. MrsB we will have them spoiled rotten, won't we? :)
Woohoo! December 20th through January 3rd!!! Home for Christmas!!! I can barely contain myself!! He has to be back by the 6th so we all thought leaving So Cal on the 3rd would give him plenty of time. Thank you God!!!
OklahomaMama, my dad passed in March of 2012. We spent Christmas of 2011 at their house and he asked me to say the blessing; I couldn't get through it, even though I had been saying it since I was a small child. I just knew it would be the last Christmas with him. Still tears me up to think of it, but I will certainly never forget it. My dad was a Viet Nam Veteran; 1966-1967; Air Force pilot and I am still so proud of him for going when he didn't have to, with 4 kids at home. God Bless them all!!!
mrsb, my Sailor texted me that they will not have liberty until after 12/20! So to expect him around the 23rd. :-( I thought I was ok with it until today at Mass, during the prayer of the faithful, deacon blessed our Military and their families, and it took all I had to stop from breaking down in a shower of tears. Father blesses our Military every day at Mass, but today, it just touched me so deep! Thinking that my Son won't be here this Thanksgiving for the first time ever; and we won't see him until Christmas, and then Lord knows for how long.
Dear Moms, the blessing in all this is that we WILL get to see our Sons for Christmas for however long, But I really miss him. The girls and I will decorated for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving and I need to change my frame of mind so the girls don't get saddened too. Lord have mercy on us. Will keep us all in prayer to be strong through these blessed Holidays.
mrsb, yes, God bless your Dad and all our Veterans. I just saw your post about your last Christmas with him. I can't imagine how hard that must be. What a brave man! Eternal rest, grant unto him O Lord: and let Your perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
fathomom and KevinsMom93, we' are working on getting them all out here on the 20th of December! Hopefully we can work something out! Kevsmom, I know you are in No Cal but maybe a ride to the airport would work out. I soooooo can't wait!!!
ProudnavyMom, he said he was confirmed to leave on the 20th-not sure if Chiefs have a lot to do with it. We're just trying to find flights that will get him here and back in the right amount of time. Even though we're here in So Cal, the weather is certainly not the same everywhere else! I'm just so excited!!
Diana, hang in there-you can do this!! God is on our side!!
ProudNavyMom, Thank you so much! I sooo appreciate your prayers! My dad was a cradle Catholic until he came back from Viet nam. He just lost all his faith after that, which was sad. I saw a man at Costco today with a Viet Nam Veterans hat on and I thanked him for his service. I try to do that when I can, but even today I was tearful. Don't know if it's because my son is in the service or what. He was thankful, said "we are a dying breed" as they are all getting older too. That generation gave so much and they were so mis-treated when they came back. I am so thankful for our Military, and our Veterans. Without them we would be nothing.
Let me know ladies, if anyone else needs a home for Thanksgiving. My nephew and family is right up the road from base, and my son and some others will be there.
So i am trying to figure this out, My son graduates BESS thurs the 19th. I was planning on going. Will he be able to leave base that day for liberty time. we were hoping to go to his aunts house for thur, fri , sat (if he doesnt have duty). The hopefully drive home (pa) for his leave. Im hoping to figure out more while im there for thanksgiving but your help would be great
oh ProudNavyMom # 1 - we all feel the way you do. I lost a son completely to death so - I will say here - we are the lucky ones - we will get to see them again and again and again. We have to remain strong - in their honor! God will give you the strength to smile, laugh and be happy when you see them. Try to be upbeat now - in anticipation. They will see the wrinkles and swollen eyes if you cry. Hug them real hard when they come, and try to keep from crying, it makes them crazy, then they have second thoughts about leaving to go away from you again. I am going to have just as hard a time as all of you. God, give us strength. Amen I always say I am not going to cry at church and my husband always brings a couple of kleenex anyway, I am such a liar, but I keep trying to convince myself I can make it through the service without a tear. Hugs to you!
stylist613 - I went to Groton for my son's BESS graduation. All I can say here is that there was no way my son was able to be away from the base for a whole day. It was not the holiday however. Bring some real warm clothes with you and the area around Groton is really quite beautiful. Be prepared to change your plans when you get there because the NAVY has plans of their own and those plans trump ours. I hope you know how to drive in the snow. Have Fun! Lots of kisses and hugs to your sailor!
im such a planner, this is gonna make or break that :). I just wish he would put it in for leave for the wholw time. But he doesnt want to "waste it" as he says. His 19th bday is on the 20th, so ofcourse i want to be there for graduation and that. and bring him home with me
navymom2013, I am sorry for your loss. And yes, we are fortunate knowing we will see these sons of ours again. I am in the same boat as you, and it's been hard to let go of the surviving children, but we must, with our blessings. You are obviously blessed, your heart and soul seem to be in a good place. I know this isn't easy.
Talk about a roller coaster ride! One day I'm up, the other I'm down; today I'm up!!!
Txgal-Donna, So good you get to be with your Sons too!!!
I am so happy for all of you who's Sons already booked their flights! I got the best I could get from my Sailor so fa,r and that's an "I'll be looking at flights today Mom! You are awesome!" HAHAHAHA I love that boy! OK, Man! Sailor even! HAHAHA Thank you Jesus!
I never signed up for this roller coaster ride but our Lord is good and is holding our hands as we journey through these unknown waters. Literally!
Let's enjoy this Christmas and we'll deal with next year on the Sub Moms group! I think we are a tight group on here and I am enjoying each of your posts and uplifting words and prayers. God bless us all.
Dang, OklahomaMama! Mine won't be in til 11:20 pm at LAX on the 20th!!! You beat me!!! Lucky for you your Sailor will be there early in the day! Still, I can't wait!!!
You beautiful NAVY MOM'S - Big hugg! Oh, to read the postings of tough times, happy times, frustrated times, joyous times is so wonderful. We are truly blessed that we have one another to share these times with. And that we can all help one another in so many ways. Doesn't your heart just ache or become so happy when you read our posts? Mine does.I look forward to every single one. I am blessed to be on this NAVY journey with ALL of you. I am so very thankful and happy for all of us who will soon be enjoying our son's hugg !! Our Sailor comes home on the 20th - 4th - we are beyond happy!! I agree, lets enjoy this blessed Christmas season with our son's and families. We will deal with next year....next year. We'll be here for each other. It makes us better Mom's for our son's. God is with our Sailors and their loving, supportive families through this journey. Thank you God for our Veterans too. Thank you NAVY families who open your doors to our Sailors for the holidays. We have so much to be thankful for, no matter how small we think it is. Continue with your beautiful prayers. Hooyah!
Yup. howabout yours? He called and told us that he had his flights taken care of. I am not sure if he even looked into flying into O.C. Oh, well. He is coming home!
My son booked his flight home (and back to Hartford) on Militaryfares.com. It's a travel agency that manages to get some great prices on airfares (and other travel services) for the military. There are a limited number of tickets at the lowest prices. The user/purchser must be active duty and must sign up to use the site. He booked R/T to San Diego for just under $500...We couldn't even get that low of a fare on Southwest. Given that they are are just now finding out what days they will be able to take off and traveling on some pretty busy days (weekend before Christmas and weekend after New Year's), we'll all be challenged to keep the fares from being outrageous. Just thought I'd pass this along for those who are looking to book tickets now.
Thank you LaxDogsMom! I can't believe what the airlines are doing right now. Last night the airfare was $334 RT BDL to Houston and back. Now they are 342 each way! My son finally booked on American Air because he was afraid he would loose a seat! I pray American Air is a good airline. Lord have mercy! But he is all booked RT and he is coming home for Christmas! Thank you Jesus!!! I will keep all our Sailors and Military in prayer that they can all make it back to their homes for Christmas!
PS: So, as a mother of course, I was trying to get the info on my Son's flights and he was very bogus about it, but confirmed he would be returning on Saturday, January 4.
Me: Honey, if you haven't book it yet, please let me know. I will book it for you!
Son: Mom, no. I have this, really.
Me: Son, I know you are all grown up now and I respect you as my adult son. But please let me know if you need help.
Son: I got it taken care of mom. Really.
Me: Son, I would understand, really. Do you need money?
Son: No mom. I can't wait to get home.
Me: ME NEITHER I WANT TO HUG YOU so much!!!
Son: Yes, well, I'll be there soon.
Me: But what date. Will your girlfriend be picking you up? Because if you want her to I would understand. I just want to make sure you have a flight!!!
Son: Mom (quiet. sigh), I wanted to surprise you. That's why I didn't want to tell you when I was getting home so I could just knock on the door and you would be so surprised.
me: oh. no!!!!! Honey I'm so sorry!!! Man! Why did I have to ask! I was just worried you may not have the money or didn't have a flight! Oh I am so sorry sweetie! I blew it!
Son: haha no mom. it's ok. I love you mom.
(both teary eyed by now)
me: I hope this doesn't remind you of the grief I give you all the time and you change your plans.
Son: Oh, no Mom! No! I want to see you and give a big hug!!! I love you Mom! You are amazing!
HAHAHA I'm laughing because I blew his surprise but I'm really crying with joy that I'm still his Momma! I love my Sailor so much! God bless them all.
Thank you to all of you for carrying me through my ups and downs. God bless us all too!
ProudNavyMom # 1 - you made me cry again. Your son sounds so sweet and loves you so much- no one is going to hear very much on this site those two weeks of Christmas. Family Time - If I don't get back on here before then - You all have a great Christmas, Hannukah, and every other holiday and a Happy New Year.
You are all a great bunch of comrads and moms and this web site has been very special to me. Lot's of things that I would have had to pry out of my son, I got from you all. \
Whatever Airline they use, whatever price they paid for their tickets, whenever their arrival date, may they arrive well and happy and hugged to the point of them going - No More MOM!!!!
ProudNavyMom, you are too funny!!! My son will be home Dec. 20th, around 11:30 pm and leaves on the 3rd, really early. I'm thinking he'll probably stay with his brother that night and he will take him back to LAX. That's what they did when he left for MEPS-I can handle that-at least I'll know where he is!!
navymom2013, you're probably right! This site might be pretty quiet around Christmas time!!! I would hope that we will all take some pictures and post so we can share our joy with having our Sailors home!!! I will try to! :)
Ya know, I made a conscious effort to quit asking my son about leave, etc. I told him more than once to get reservations as early as possible for lowest prices. He mentioned the dates of shutdown and I told him again. About 3 weeks ago I asked him about it and he said that coming Friday they were supposed to be told how to fill out a leave chit. A couple weeks ago I sent him a Southwest card for $100 to help out (with some cookies!). He thanked me profusely, but I have not heard one word. I will not ask him about it again. I hope he has a surprise planned.
My son had duty on thanksgiving he is a Culinary Specialist sub so will be working in the galley. I always say kitchen and get corrected. I will missing him on the holiday but we are only 3 hours away so Black Friday will head down to visit him for the weekend. Does anyone know any good places to eat in the area. I look so foward to see him.
well since we made his reservations I know it won't be a surprise! But I would love that, I think? i have to kind of know what's going on or I'll go nuts!!! So he flies in on the 20th, late, his friend from Iowa on the 23rd and mother-in-law, uncle, aunt, 4 year old niece also on the 23rd...so much for alone time with my son. :/
I guess I should be happy they all want to see him but "I" want to see him too!! Geeze!!
HAHAHAHA mrsb, You are not wrong. I completely understand what you are going through! I have to know what is going on too. I WAS going nuts seeing all his friends posting on FB their flights and all. I wish I could just keep him to myself! But short of making him a schedule, which I sure would not mind making, I don't want to come out too strong. HAHAHA my oldest Son has a room reserved just for his younger brother, it will always be my Sailor's room, he says. But, I want my Sailor with me!!!! :-) Thank God we all live close to each other! Besides, I still have his room!
Arlene & Annette, I think our Sailors are pretty much the same. That's why I kept trying to pin him down for a departure date! HAHAHAHA Like I always tell the kids, they are right on target for their age.
Nick's mom, i am so happy for you that you get to see your Son soon!
navymom2013, all our Sailors love us so much. It's their first time away from us for most of them and they are so far away. It gives them time to realize where we fit in, in their lives. We already know this; they are just finding out.
@mrsb - you think you have problems - I am picking my son up at the airport, he is coming home for Christmas, then he is taking my car to go visit friends in another town, then I have to take him to where he lived before he joined the Navy, in another state and drop him off so he can visit his whole "other family" there and they are going to take him to the airport. How much time do you think I am going to get with him? The car ride to the other state probably and I will have to share that with his I-phone /facebookand the stereo. Gotta love these guys. I do.
So I don't post usually, but I think it's finally starting to hit me that my son won't be home for Thanksgiving.
So with that in mind, I've had to listen to someone at work complain for the past week that her family is in town and she's having to work today and Friday (we work in healthcare), so she's lucky we're off tomorrow!!
Seriously, it's all I can do right now to not say anything!! At least her children are here!! UGGGGGGG!!
Okay, I think I feel a bit better now. Thanks for letting me vent a little. :)
To All my Navy Sisters! From my family to yours wishing you a very Happy and Safe Thanksgiving! I'm praying for all of you to have strength during this Holiday. We have so much to be Thankful for, I'm especially Thankful for all of you being here with me throughout this journey. I will try my best to get through dinner without breaking down. When you talk to your boy please tell him that I'm very Proud of him and I'm thanking him for serving our country, the Land of the Free and all the sacrifices they and their family make. Big Hugs to All of you Mommas!
I think most of us can relate Marlene. It's kind of like when moms were complaining about their kid going off to college, not even close to boot camp or sub school or any school. Just have to do the best we can and be Navy Mom strong!
We feel you Marlene. Gently remind her that this is the time of year to be thankful for what you have. Remind her that your Sailor is protecting her freedom so she can enjoy Thanksgiving with her family.
I've known my son wasn't able to come home for Thanksgiving for about two months now, but it still sucks. I talked to him yesterday and he will be having Thanksgiving dinner with friends. A Sailor who lives off base has invited a couple of them over :)
Thanks everyone. Usually I can brush things off, but this one is harder than I thought. I guess I'm a newbie and it will be easier (hopefully) as time goes on.
Lani - I'm going to have to keep my mouth shut on this one, it tends to get me into trouble, ha!
Lani!!!! My Sailor said the very same words!!! I wonder who is the beautiful person inviting them over? Please let me know if a Sailor looking like the one below shows up at your place!!! HAHAHAHA I am so grateful for all of you that opened your home to them so they can have a nice warm home cooked meal!!! God bless you all!!! BIG NAVY MOM HUG!!!!!!
Marlene - you are not alone. Good luck holding your tongue - as I get a little older, and having a child in NAVY - that is a little harder for me to do! There are so many little things many are NOT considerate of! Oh, you can vent here anytime, any day - here in NAVYMOMLAND we can relate and we are here for each other. HOOYAH!
Thank you, again, to all of you lovely families that open your homes to our Sailors over these holidays. God bless ALL of you. A BIG NAVY MOM HUG to ALL NavyMomSista's. A Happy and blessed Thanksgiving! HOOYAH one more time!
Happy Thanksgiving to all. I am especially thankful for my sons, as one is deployed and one will deploy soon. The wishbone will be for both of them for hugs and kisses and a safe return home.
That's awesome Navymom26! Thanks for sharing! Kristen is awesome, and my sailor is there now, getting ready to enjoy some of his cousin's great cooking and hospitality, with other family and other sailors!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I have been moving forward fine, knowing my son would be in good hands with family members this first Thanksgiving away from home. But today I have been on the verge of tears all morning so far. My sister already texted me a picture of the lad. I don't dare call him yet, while there is a possibility I might cry!
Oh Annette, it's ok to cry! I do it all the time, sometime for no reason at all-well, we all know the reason. :/ Thanks to Kristen my son got a home made pumpkin pie yesterday too! He said it is delicious! He has duty today so another wonderful mom was going to bring him a home cooked Thanksgiving dinner-I'm so grateful for everyone who have opened their homes and hearts to our Sailors-see, now I'm crying again! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!
Annette thanks so much for letting us know about Kristen's culinary talents. And thanks again to Kristen for taking time out to make our Sailors feel a little better, And a very big shout out to all your Mom's who opened your family to strangers for the holiday. You are truly a blessing!!!!! Hope everyone's day was wonderful!
Ours was....but it was just not the same without my son. But he will be home soon for Christmas! Can't wait!!!!!!

me: oh.

Wow Annette I think our sons are the same! I ask him almost everyday and he never knows. So I guess I need to stop asking too! HA!

Geeze!!

Ooops, that would be my mother-in-law; his Grandma!! I just don't want to share him with everyone! Am I wrong???

Big hug to all!!! God bless

I do.

Yeah, navymom2013, I guess I'll have to be gracious and share him!!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!!
