Jeffsmom, YUP! Exactly. Barely graduated high school, he told me thanks for being such a B and pushing him or he would not have graduated. I just laughed at him for that. S already said the Navy is his life...How things change when they see things differently and were not there to "push them along". LOL
Thanks everyone, I am very lucky to have special people in my life. And I am very greatful for them..I am so excited..Still looking for a letter..But, I'll just hang in there..
Hello Ladies, I just got back from Great Lakes Chicago IL. and I had the best time of my life. To see my son Graduate and become a sailor it put tears in my eyes of nothing but JOY..

Sandra, when you get your DVD of his graudation you will cry all over again. But is is much nicer in person. We drove from Texas to see my grandson graduate and it was awesome. Congradulations on your new sailor!
congrats, codenamegirlnextdoor ship9DIV132. I know how that feels, my son graduated April 8th and it was such an exciting day. He is in A school now. I am so proud of him.
I have a cousin whose husband is serving with the Army. They are selling these Hero bracelets to help pay for the welcoming home ceremony. I attached a flyer if anyone is interested. Hero_Bracelet-1.doc
Brenda Sue- are you on every group on this site? :) j/k
My son just got to San Antonio late Saturdy night , so far he says it's like college with uniforms.(even though he's never been to college!) It sure is nice to be able to text and call him again!
His class hasn't started yet, he thinks next week maybe. When they get weekends off can they leave base and have visitors?
bn4givn~~when in school they can have visitors but different rules for different phases. When my son was Phase 2 he could go with us off base during the day but needed to be back by midnight. He is phase 3 now and he is allowed to stay out for the weekend but has mileage restrictions. Your Sailor should be able to check the rules for you.
Thnank you NavyMomKim! We are only 4 hours away from San Antonio so it would be worth a weekend road trip to be able to see him!Even if it is only during the day. He did tell me the timeline for phasing up but I forgot what he said already!I think it was 3 weeks to phase 2 then 2 weeks to phase 3...
Stacy, That is great! PIR is amazing. Something that you will never forget. Make sure you bring lots of kleenex! And a camera! If you are able to, video it. They had "techno problems" when my S PIR'd, And we were never able to get a copy of it. Congrats!
Nashivillenavymom: My son graduated April 15th from BC and we were allowed to meet him at the airport he flew out to A-School the next day. We sat at the airport for 17 hours before his flight. He wore the uniform that he has on in my profile picture. They can have their cell phones back at the airport. We met him at the USO and got a gate pass to sit with him until his flight left.
Mr SA survived the OC spray today and passed the test. He said it felt like someone sandpapered his face, then put alcohol on it then burning hot skillets on your face!Well, at least that is behind him for now!
Hello all! Just back yesterday from Great Lakes and our son's PIR. What an amazing experience! We are so very proud. We thought that we were going to be able to have him the afternoon of Friday and all day Saturday before having to say goodbye. But, as it turns out he shipped out Saturday morning, 5:25 a.m. to San Antonio where he'll be training for hospital corpsman.
Thank goodness for N4Moms...what did those mamas do before this wonderful resource? I can't imagine...
My boyfriend's PIR was on May 6th, 2011. (4 days ago!) Unfortunately, I couldnt go. Hes in Mississippi right now for A-School, but I havent received any calls from him or anything yet. Is this normal? (His parents didnt give him a cell phone at his PIR or anything.) How long did everyone else have to wait until their sailors contacted them in A-School? The wait is killing me!!!!! :(
@ angeleves: My son PIR was 4/15 and he flew out of GL to SA for Corpsman A school on 4/17. He did not call me until the next weekend but I was able to catch him on Facebook and was able to chat with him for about 20 minute before I received his call. He may just be settling in...
Hello Ladies... @ angeleyes..hang in there.. I know it all differs from A School to A School.. Does he have a facebook ? Have you seen activity on there..? I know its tough..he will call soon .. My Dau is in SA. I was able to communicate with her throughout her trip to A School and I talk to her everyday , text, FB...but then again she has her phone...
My son is in GL for A school. WSe bought a cell phone for him after graduation. He was so talkative while we were there which is not like him. He now has his laptop too and we dont hear much from him. I get upset but he is 25 and on his own for the first time so are the last thing he is thinking of at this time. We have a hard time adjusting to that but we are trying to let him live his life. We just have to hang in there they will call eventually.
Went last weekend to visit my son at A school. I had an opportunity I thought I'd never get. He had a ticket left from Delta from before he signed up that he had to use and they let him transfer to my name; a friend had time left on stays at the Hampton Inn and hooked me up with a hotel for me and my son to visit in and it was a wonderful time with him. He graduates in about 12 days and we hope he gets to come home for a short visit before the next orders. Hoping to hear soon. I think its hard when you know new orders will be given any time but you don't know what day or where it will tell you; the waiting is hardest. I like to just know and deal with the knowledge. At least we know by June 9 the waiting will be over.
Hi Renebo, My son has been in Groton since December. It seems to be a nice area. Not much to do during the winter but with summer here, the beaches are nice. Also Mystic Seaport is right nearby!
Jeffsmom, I bet the beaches R great! my son was raisedin PA and there aren't many beaches there, so I'm thinking he will LOVE it!
1stborn... did your son graduate out of GL? if so, them they prob graduated together. I wonder if they are room mates
Hi Renebo. My son graduated BESS on Feb. 11, then ATT & Techno. He has been in A school for three weeks. Tentative grad date is either Aug.26 or Sept. 9.
Hello, I have been absent from this sight but now in the just starting A School in San Antonio, T> Dont know a whole lot about the Sam Houston Army my Sailor was kinda worried about what to expect does anybody have a comment!
Hey group! My sailor just began DC training at Great Lakes! PIR was amazing. He doesn't have a phone yet, so can anyone tell me how to write to a DC who is E3? I know his ship, but that's about all.
My son is in Pensacola for A school. He has been there for about a month already. We are able to communicate by phone now- so even less letters. I am having a hard time navigating this site- there seems to be so much!
Hi Renebo, I am very excited! He just came home for the weekend. He looks great! I am going to see him on July 4th weekend! Stay on base when you visit. It is so much easier for our sailors!
My son just completeds PIR on June 3, 2011. He is gone to A School in SC. He doesn't have a phone yet so I'm not sure how to communicate with him. He is a Nuke and I am just wondering if there are any other Nuke families on here? I didn't know about this in time to meet up with the families the evening before graduation so I don't want to miss out on any more events.
Graduation is not until August and I'm just sad. It is a roller coaster thru basic & then you get caught up in PIR . . . I was not ready for this phase at all! WHINE!!! This is worse than post partum depression! No it's the same. I must be nuts.
lapout52; I felt the exact smae way when my son was in bc. I hardly left the house and thought that my world as I knew it was over. He is my only child, except for the dog! I'm proud to say I made it with the help of many great friends on this website. He PIRed 5/6 and is currently in A school.
Watching him go through PIR and seeing the way he carried himself in public made me realize that he's no longer "my little boy". He has grown into a fine young man and I'm one of many moms who is sooooo proud of their child!!! :) The Navy gets very high marks from me on my son's transformation in 8 weeks!! So does my son, He worked very hard to get through bc, and we are so very proud of him.
I hope your planning on attending PIR. What an awesome event to be a part of!
I guess I was pretty vague on that last post! My Sailor is in A school in GL & Yes, PIR was undoubtedly the top of the line experience! I agree, the transformation was amazing & a source of great pride for me. He is a DC & will graduate A school in August. then he will get some leave time. I guess I'm just still in a let-down frame of mind. they don't write from A school & texting is not the same. He sounds like he's a cross town at Wal-Mart or something! LOL But every day is getting easier & august will be here soon enough.
Slapout---I honestly think that my DS sailor felt so isolated in BC, and knows that he's not likely to have a lot of contact once he's at his next station, that he generally calls us several times a day and skypes a couple times per week. LOL Does he write anymore? Nooooooo, not unless it's an occasional text. I think he got so starved for our voices, that he's taking every advantage to do so. LOL
I am not hearing much from A school. I guess he has to study a lot & he's already told us that he'll graduate & get to come home a little while in August. I do get snippets from him via Facebook but those are just when he makes comments. It reminds me of the olden days when he was waiting to go to basic. He didn't talk to us much then either, just an occasional txt. You know: Hey u @ WM? Get me sum cookies plz. thx.
