Hey ladies, I have a question for any of you who've already been through the boot camp stages more specifically, any of you who've had a boyfriend stay in Great Lakes for ATT or A school. I understand that after PIR, he will have to move his things over to his A school, and then he'll be able to have liberty. My concern is, on Saturday his dad is leaving, and I've heard you have to sign them out for liberty, so can a girlfriend sign them out for PIR weekend?? I know that when he's in the early stages of A school that only a spouse or immediate family member can sign them out/in, but I was wondering if the same rule applies for PIR weekend...?
My boyfriend box came earlier this week that was very exciting and he called me on Thursady and it was the best 19 second called I could have ever asked for, his words were.... "I just want to let you no that I love you more than ever right now and Im okay, you will be recieving a letter in a few weeks from me, ok gotta go, bye" Those words said it all!
Just remember the first month is the hardest for both of you. I'm on week five but his first three letters were so depressing that I cried instead of feeling happy. We have to stay string and let them know we are here for them and support them.
Do not worry. This is usual. No news is good news. He possibly didn't have time, they litterally get like thirty seconds for it. but please don't worry.
Whoever he is sending the things too, should get the box by the end of the week, and a form letter next week (this is going by my experiance, my Fiance has 23 days left in BC) But dont expect letters until the third or the fourth thursday. I got my first letter On the third thursday. They moved his ship though after sending out the form letter (It happened to everyone in his DIvision) so everyone was sending things to the original ship until we got the first letter. He went in oct 2nd, and didnt recieve any mail until the 25th of this month. :(
STAY BUSY!!!! I work three jobs and if I'm not working I'm writing him letters. :) If you need any advice please feel free!!! I am in week five to six of boot camp right now and my Fiance is my best friend! SO I understand :)
Good afternoon. I'm so glad I found this site. Thought I was in this alone. My boyfriend left on the 22 of October, and the last call I got from him was when he landed at the airport. His mom did receive a phone call 7 days later for only about three minutes, juss saying he was fine :( I've been getting a little discouraged. I've written him a letter everyday since he's been gone & I haven't heard back & he's been gone for 3 Weeks today :( it's tearing me apart cause I'm concerned that maybe he isn't getting them , UGH . . how do you guys do it!
OMG , I JUSS TALKED TOO MY BOYFRIEND FOR 19 MINUTES & 47 SECONDS! I'M SO SPEECHLESS RIGHT NOW, BUT EVERYONE YOU SHOULD BE GETTING CALLAS & LETTERS SOON!!! I'M DOING MY HAPPY DANCE , HE'S BEEN GONE FOR 3 WEEKS , BUT I DIDN'T REALIZE HOW MUCH I MISSED HIM UNTIL I HEARD HIS VOICE!!!!
I'm counting the days till my first letter arrives!! My boyfriend left two weeks before my birthday so to me the letter will be my most cherished birthday present <3 I wish I knew at least how he's doing or bootcamp is treating him. I love him so much and the fact that he's across the country kills me! Anyone else feeling the same??
Ha! I still have four years to go :) but always remember it is always going tobe a emotional rollercoaster. Thats nothing to be ashamed of. I told my man before he left to not feel sad if I cry. I'm only crying cause I love him so much.
Ha! I still have four years to go :) but always remember it is always going tobe a emotional rollercoaster. Thats nothing to be ashamed of. I told my man before he left to not feel sad if I cry. I'm only crying cause I love him so much.
aha, oh no, that 4 year part always seems to slip my mind. urgh! & yes, i always find myself crying out of the blue, & i juss realize how much more i love him! Emotional roller coaster is the exact word. I know i can do it though!
Trust me, if you can stock enjoys through it will definitely bring you two closet together. All my fiance talks about in his letters is how much he loves me and cant wait to see me. His very first letter even said ' I didn't even think I could love you more but this experience is showing me that you really are the most important thing in my life' its things like that that will make all these tears and lonely nights worth it! :) hope you all get your letters soon. Once they come in it gets better. And just wait till you receive a letter where he is responding to yours! Communication!
oh goodness, thats soo sweet! i guess its true when they say "absence makes the heart grow fonder!" Thanks soo much. I'm anxious too get more letters. I got his first letter on the 17, but it was dated the 5th. So i know he's sending them, its juss a matter of time before i get them. But i read these letters over and over , it sure does help me make it through the day!
A thing that helps me is spraying his coglone on this teddy bear I sleep with every night. It helps me sleep better with him gone. Since december they only night we haven't slept together was meps : p
haha, I have a picture of him placed above my head board, so every morning i wake up, he's the first i see. I guess us ladies have our different ways of holding on too our loved ones while they're gone. Anything to make it easier on us and help us get through!
Theo'sGF have you gotten a phone call from your SR ye? I am praying that we get a call on Thanksgiving, I just want to hear his voice! I sent you a friend request!
If you haven't received a phone call yet, expect one very soon. I got my first phone call Thursday of last week. His division had just finish testing & they were awarded 20 minute phone calls! The call was unexpected , so be on the lookout. Keep the volume up on your phone lol! & I accepted your request! & omgsh , how phonecalls on Thanksgiving would be a perfect gift!
Hi Jennifer, my husband graduated boot camp a year ago and also stayed in GL for ATT. At that time a girlfriend could not sign them out but another parent could, so a friend of his whose parents are staying all weekend can sign him out as well. If you have time, write him a letter and have him ask at the liberty brief PIR weekend because that's when they will explain all the rules and policies. That first weekend (usually for up to a week or two) they are on a hold ship, so the rules are different for that ship than they might be when they get on their permanent ship.
Can someone please tell me how much free time my SR will get after bootcamp graduation?? I'm flying to go see my boyfriend and I have no idea how all this works..
SailorsMermaid, do you know where he is going for A school after bootcamp? If his school is anywhere besides Great Lakes you will have all day Friday with him immediately following PIR. Then he will fly out Saturday, and you're welcome to meet him at the airport and wait with him until his flight.
If his A school is at Great Lakes, you will have about an hour immediately after PIR, then he'll have to go check in to his new barracks which could take up to 5 hours. He'll call you when he's ready and you can go pick him up for a few more hours Fri night. He has a curfew and must be back by then. Then you am pick him up and spend all day Sat & Sun with him, he'll let you know what time you can pick him up. Make sure you have him back by curfew every night!
Hello everyone! My name is Chelsea, and my boyfriend is in Basic Training, Ship 14 Div. 046. I am happy he joined the Navy, but I miss him a lot!!!! I'm sure all of you can relate to that feeling. Tomorrow is Sunday! Yay!
@Bittersweet Thanks, that is good advice. I try to just study, draw, and I take my boyfriends dog ofor walks sometimes. I also like to write him everyday, so that keeps me busy. I think he is on week 3 now, but I am not sure exactly. He left on November 6th, and his PIR will be on January 4th, 2013. :) I can't wait to see him again/ to be able to call him everday and send him text messages. :):):)
HELLO c: My name is Melissa , my boyfriend is in SHIP 11 , DIV 050 . I write at least a whole page everyday , and he calls me every once in a while too which help A LOT (: But he's going to A school and C school to be an IS , and they told him it'd be a minimum of 8 months before he can come home cause he won't get any leaves long enough to come back to CA from Virginia .. but we're hanging on <3
Ahhhhhh! The first letter felt like heaven on my finger tips!! I have exactly one month till ill be in Chicago watching my boyfriend graduate bootcamp and it really will be the the best Christmas present ill be getting lol I'm having my mom look up flights and hotels so were prepared ahead of time :) to be honest I just want his kisses already!!!
@chelseacat I can understand that! Have you received his first letter yet? He will be grateful for you writing him every day! I do a count down, so every day I send off my letter to my SR I write what day he is on, on the outside of the envelope and he told me when they do mail call and they get to his name the RDC yells out his name and the day number I wrote on the letter and they all laugh about it! He is now the go to guy for the count down numbers. So be a little creative, send cards, and send a note from the dog lol! My SR graduates 12/21/12 :-) if you need anything feel free to ask and I will help to the best of my ability.
@Bittersweet I received 2 letters. The first one he seemed really tired, but I found out from another lady someone in his division talked back to an RDC. Of course, the whole division got in trouble. The second one was after he received a huge pack of letters I mailed him. I mailed all of the letters I had writen before I had his address in one huge yellow envelope. :p He told me for the first night in boot camp he went to sleep with a smile on his face. :) That made my week! Plus, he told me he would write a good letter for my Birthday. I should get it tomorrow or Friday. :3 I send him drawings. Lots of drawings, because he asked me to. :3
Also, you are so lucky! Does your SR get the 10 days for Christmas? I heard from a few girls that their SRs are getting off for 10 Days if the graduate on the 21st but no one knows if it is true. My BF will graduate Jan. 4th.
@MRobinson
Nice to meet you Mellisa. My name is Chelsea. I too write a whole page everyday at least. Keep it up! Your Sailor loves your letters and appreciates the reading material I am sure! Keep hanging on! Your BF will love you for it! Also, I know tickets to Virginia might be expensive, but you and your man will probably end up paying and sending you up there I am sure. Once he is on phase 3 in school, he will be allowed to stay out on weekends and sign himself out on weekdays, so you will be able to see him then! :3
@Sailor'sMermaid143 Hooray! I am so happy for you! I wish I could go to my BFs PIR!
:) my SR has 22 days left! Received a 4 page letter in the mail today & it brought tears to my eyes. I miss him sooooo much! He basically juss wrote a letter to reassure his love for me. To let me know that this distance has made him realize what he has. I'm so thankful! December 21 can't come soon enough , ugh!
My boyfriend left for Bootcamp on December 3rd. We just got his form letter with his address. I have 9 letters waiting to be sent and I was wondering if it would be alright if I sent them all in a big Manila envelope? Or would he get in trouble for that?
Jessica- I would recommend mailing ur letters in no bigger than standard business size envelopes. Either a few days worth of letters (pages) or each day's worth in an envelope. Besides, it's fun for ur SR to receive multiple envelopes in one mail call. Refer here for mailing guidelines: http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/pdfs/FamilyGuide.pdf
Remember not to put stickers or wrote private messages on the outside of the envelopes. :)
For the ladies that have their SR graduating on the 28th.... IT'S ALMOST HERE!!!! The weather in Chicago at the moment is freezing!! My SR told me it felt like ice cubes were stuck to his face lol I hope everyone is packed and ready for this beautiful day!!!
@sailorsmermaid - I am beyond excited!!!! :) I have a countdown on my phone and I love waking up every morning to see that number getting lower! I am not packed but the outfits are figured out!
@Jessica - I agree that sending them seperately is great. They get more mail that way and that is the best feeling. I had started wrting my SR a month before he left. I would send old letters with new ones. I send sports news, jokes and pictures and he shares them. He says he gets crap for getting the most mail but loves it so send away! No big envelopes though. :)
Well my fiance ' just left for bootcamp Dec 12th,I got a phone call saying he made it to Chicago,I miss him so much and can't wait to start writing letters,we've been together for 3 and a half years, and lived together for six months its the hardest thing being away for me,Ifeel like everything I do reminds me of him..he is my bestfriend... I'm so happy I found this website with everyone else going through the samething, it's so supportive, I'm still new to it,,hoping for lots of support and info!!
First Baptist Church hosts sailors who can't be home every Christmas...they get as many sailors as possible. They've had 500 before. So ladies with guys at Great Lakes for Christmas, they may get the opportunity to enjoy a home cooked meal and a nice family atmosphere. The families who give their Christmas to these men and volunteer bring their cell phones and let sailors use it as much as they would like. I love this church. Some of the families have sailors of their own and understand what they are going through. I'd love to be there to help. Please click on the link and watch the video :) It will warm your heart :)) Merry Christmas to you and your families. Thank you for giving up Christmas with your sailor so our country can survive and thrive. I love my sailor and I am so proud of him :)) Ship 04 Division 805

Hey destiny1129, i talked to my boyfriend on saturday and he said that they collect all the mail on Sunday so hopefully you should be receiving mail soon!
My fiancé called me today from a hospital in Great Lakes. He has been in bootcamp for two weeks. He collapsed a couple times todatly so he was rushed to the hospital. They said his blood pressure is 160/something. He sounded horrible on the phone. But he is afraid of them sending him home. Has anyone else gone through this? What happens to him?
Jennifer
