Hey facebook moms. My daughter is in her 3rd week of Navy bootcamp. Can you advise what I can send her besides pictures, stamps and calling cards? Also, can you tell me how often do they not graduate when they are supposed to? And one more question. How many days of liberty do they get after graduation?

  • CLAMOM

Ship09 div 091.....Letters,letters and more letters. Pictures, cards, and inspirational quotes helped my babygirl survive boot camp. Some people get set back for not passing a test or run but from what I have been told if your SR is going to be set back they make them call you so you can change you reservations so if you are flying please get refundable tickets. Liberty is granted for the entire weekend. I was lucky because my Sailor was able to spend the night at the hotel with us. So it depends on where your daughter will be going for A or C school.

  • Leese/K's OS Mom

Clamom: When did your SA PIR?...My SA PIR'ed in Jan and she is in A school in GL and she was not allowed to overnight with us.

she was able to leave the base at 6am and had to be back to her ship by 10pm

Ship09: CLAMOM is right send alot of up beat letters keep letting her know how proud you are of her and she can do it ect she will sooo need to hear that with in the next 2 to 3 weeks because now is the time she is second guessing her decision to join. I wrote her everyday while she was in RTC.

and around week 5 I sent her small bottles of shampoo conditioner Body wash lotion just made sure the bottles were small not trial size but small.

also you may want to send a large yellow office envelope for her to send some of her letters back home, they only have a small drawer to keep it all in.

  • CLAMOM

Leese/K Mom my Sailor PIR'd on Dec 16th. We had know idea that she was going to be able to stay with us at the hotel. I was told it doesn't happen like that often. And yes her A school is in GL. I think it was a Division decision because everybody didn't get to stay with there parents.

  • Leese/K's OS Mom

Wow Lucky, My Daughter PIR was the day after Chicago's first Snow storm and it snowed the whole weekend while we were there it would have been great to have her stay with us for the weekend. Maybe they put in for a leave instead of liberty.

I know my Daughters Division was putting in for it but it was to late for the request to go through.

  • CLAMOM

Leese/K's mom....Oh man!!!! Did you fly or drive to Chicago? What's her rate? Where are you guys from? We are from North Carolina so I was praying for No snow when we went to Chicago.

  • Leese/K's OS Mom

We flew in from Boston...She is an E-3,
Being from Mass we are use to the Snow, But it's the other drivers on the Road that worry me lol
What is your SA's job going to be?
My Daughter is OS (Operation Specialist)
  • CLAMOM

Leese/k's mom....WOW you daughter is a E-3 already!!!! That's great. My daughter is a MM and she will be on the USS Abraham Lincoln. Do you know where she is staying at now for A-School?

  • Leese/K's OS Mom

CLAMOM....She is in A School at GL she will be graduating A School March 16th

Then she will come home the 17th for leave then she has to report to Virgina for C school for 21 day's then from there she reports to the USS Roosevelt in Fl

  • Leese/K's OS Mom

    what is MM?

  • CLAMOM

Machinst Mate. My daughter graduates March 19th. Her Ship is currently on deployment so they will most likely fly her out to meet the ship and once they port at the end of June she will too be in VA!!

  • CLAMOM

My daughters A school is 11 weeks!!! How long is your daughters A school and C school?

  • Leese/K's OS Mom

    A School 9 weeks C School 21 days

  • Leese/K's OS Mom

Hi Facebook Moms, I just joined N4M's.  I have a son serving in the USAF & my stepson will soon be leaving for Navy basic.  I feel much more comfortable in secret groups.  If you know of one on FB, please advice.  I would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks so much<3

Hi all....just joined the FB page.... my daughter arrived at GL last night..... day 1 down :)..... for me that is

  • peggyproudnavymom

My 22 yr old son went in 11 days ago and it feels like forever ago.  I now know what it means to be "beside myself".  Even though he was at college for four years and I thought that I had already "let go and Let God",  this is hard.  I got the I am here call and the box and the form letter so all is going as it should but its hard. Knowing that graduation is at the end of the tunnel is my saving grace.  I am so proud of him for making this decision and I am so excited that God willing I will see him a SAILOR in a few weeks. I know the only way to get there is to let go and let God again..all day and all night long!

Words of wisdom.... Anything can happen and be prepared for a setback. By preparing yourself for a setback will save you lots o heartache if it does happen. Stress Fractures are very common. My daughter was to graduate on Dec 6 and she is still there. It has been quite a ride but it is all good. I just don't want momma's hurting too much if their SR gets hurt.
  • ladyayp

Pegodun, My son has been gone almost 2 years and I can honestly say that it is still hard letting go. I hope that things get easier.

  • peggyproudnavymom

Thank you for the advice...I will try to be realistic and prepare for setbacks and I will start accepting that this is the way it is going to be..hard.  I am very happy for him This is his life his journey this is what he wanted so I am happy for him I just have to sit back and enjoy the ride...relax breathe i can do this, afterall hes the one doing all the work, I am just watching

  • GinnyLa

I just joined Navy Moms on Facebook.  My son will be signing his contract and getting sworn in as inactive on Wednesday.  So happy and proud of him

  • Maria ( 9/132 - HM- 04-2011)

GinnyLa, congratulations. May the ride begin.
  • Maria ( 9/132 - HM- 04-2011)

Pegadon, hang in there. It will get better. My only son went in just over a year ago. It is hard to let go.
  • ENMomJapan@8-12(Pat)

It's been one week since my son left for BC. It's been hard and I sent my first letter today. I got mailing address from recruiter, no form letter yet.. . I can't wait to hear from him. I'm confused about phone calls, I've read post saying they received phone calls on Sunday. Whats with phone calls so soon, I thought it takes some time before calls are made!
  • spring932

Pperez some moms get calls earlier if their SR needs additional information for security clearance reasons. Usually those in specops
  • GinnyLa

My son, Brian, is on his way, probably there already, to sign his contract and he will be a member of the Navy.  Waiting for his call.  It's been a long road.

  • SailorKurtsMom (Ship 7 Div 124)

My Son left 2/21- really hard on all of us - getting better each day.  Doesn't take much to trigger the tears - Special prayers for all of us, Moms and Recruits (and families) for strength and endurance to get through this rough time - the unknown is the most difficult.  What I keep reminding myself is that No News is Good News!!!  Cannot wait to hear from him!

  • Pearl Harbor MA

The amount of phone calls really depends on their RDC's. We were so blessed that my son got to make 4 or 5 pretty long calls while in boot camp. He left on a Tuesday (his 21st bday!) and besides the I'm here call he called that Saturday and got to talk for prob 20 -30 minutes! They had a guy in his division kind of freak out on the way there and just about went straight to ship 5 so I think that might have had something to do with it.

Toward the end it is VERY true that no news is good news. It got to where I was afraid to look at my phone for fear it was him saying something had happened and he would be held back!

It has been a year now and all that seems so long ago and in hindsight very short!

  • Chiquitos

I GOT MY LETTER TODAY!!! I am soooo HAPPY, I hope you all receive yours.

    Blessings,

    Gracie

  • SailorKurtsMom (Ship 7 Div 124)

We received our letters yesterday!  Sounds like his first chance to send and receive was Sunday - 3/4/12 - he sounded good!  He made MA and got a ribbon for swimming!  Not completely sure what that means - but PROUD of my SR!!!!!  Cannot wait to hear from him again!  Requested a calling card - both Dad and I are sending them - also - suggest to all to send return addressed-stamped envelopes to make it easier for them to mail!!!!  Good Luck to all - Strength and Endurance to our SR's and us too!!!!

  • Pearl Harbor MA

MA is Master at Arms, military police type stuff. That means he will probably go to San Antonio for his A school when basic is over...
  • SailorKurtsMom (Ship 7 Div 124)

Thank you for the info - In doing a little more checking in to the MA thing - I think he was giving me an "kind of like" description - other posts I see RIC - Recruit In Charge - which sounds like what he is doing - he is the one that gets in trouble if his division messes up!  Yikes!  But, MA is something that he has expressed interest in!  Wonder if he would change jobs in the middle of boot camp?

    Happy Friday Moms!!!!

  • Irene McClure

    My daughter and sil MA's!!!

Oh, he ships out March 22nd to Great Lakes, ill, for his BC, then he stays there for his A school...he will be in AECF...and THEN, hopefully, he will be stationed in VA, since my 2 younger sons and I live in the foothills of NC...would love to find some "friends" on here to "lean" on, and be able to support each other, hopefully. Thank you for allowing me to be here.

  • FCSN Reed's Mom Div 155 -5-18-12

    Reed's mom,
I can totally relate. I spent 1 day in bed crying because she was hurt and was going to miss graduation. But it turned out ok! Prayers are with you and your family.
  • FCSN Reed's Mom Div 155 -5-18-12

Phillies....Im sorry to hear that, but very glad it all worked out for you :)  and thank you very much, I do believe in prayer...I will pray for you and your family as well...I beleive we can all pray for each other, support each other, and maybe make it a lil bit easier...  :)   Im so happy to be added into this wonderful "support group" :)

  • NanZam

I know how you all are feeling...It's exciting, emotional, and scary...I also believe in prayer...I am also glad to have this website for support...Its very informative, and allows me to see what to expect...my son was stationed in Great Lakes last year he graduated March 11, 2011...we had a great time...We were soooooo proud and are proud of our son...but in the back of our mind we still feel anxious...He is now stationed at 29 Palms and is learning so much...I am happy and relieved that he is still in the Great USA....Congratulations to all those new graduates....and god bless all who are over seas...Prayer's to all...

  • Gail (Ship 11/ Div 141)
