That is one of the funniest phrases but its oh so true ;-) Another funny word my daughter once said she was "voluntold" to do something I cant remember what it was i just thought the word was funny...seems like the navy has a lot if "funny" words ;-)
Oh wow thats hylarious! New word of the day FUBAR...oh yea by the end of the day i guarantee using five times lol - Good laugh...i needed it today! :-)
LOL... Navy words. I'm sending my two girlfriends an email each week with Navy terms for them to learn. Just having fun and FUBAR made the list, thanks.
Hey everybody-Just touching base with all of you. Funny postings the pass couple of days. I absolutely LOVE volunTOLD! That is gonna be in my vocabulary for sure. Don't think my sailor has gotten his packages yet or rather, I haven't heard that he has. I hope he gets them within the next 12 days for his birthday! I have the upper respiratory stuff that has been flying around. Not sure where I got, but have been trying real hard to avoid getting it. Guess what?!!? It didn't work!!!! :) sniff, sniff
Beautiful cool, sunny day here in WI. Off to do an Honor Guard presentation this morning. Honestly I'm not sure what we are doing. Always makes me a little nervous when the community invites us to do something and don't tell us what. I'm not sure how many of us will show up either. Should be an interesting day.
Hope you all are having a a great weekend...looks like fall setting in.
@katlanta-Funny! I never heard it. Will listen for it if I watch that movie again.
@Vi-We are still very hot and humid down here in South Georgia. We won't see fall for a few more months. We have had rain almost every single day for about 3 weeks. As much as we prayed for the rain, I am ready for it to stop now. We have enough. It turns the outside into a pure sauna. Never happy are we? :)
I wish we had your rain then, I had to water our crispy lawn and fruit trees today. They all looked so sad. My little puppy Summer went and laid in the sprinkler, she looked so cute.
Today for my son, it's his birthday. For me it's tomorrow and my 29 year old baby is floating around in the world somewhere and I just wish I could give him a hug. BooHoo for me.
Are we ready for another week Moms? What's on your schedule for the week?
I'm meeting a girlfriend tomorrow afternoon to walk our girls, and canning the rest of the tomatoes. Cooking dinner for the Legion boys on Wednesday night, having a mexican lasagna with homemade salsa and chips. I have a massage on Friday and baby shower next weekend. I will schedule some time for my online classes.
Here's to a productively/creatively... happy week to us all...Vi
Looking forward to hearing my son's voice one day soon. I miss him very much. Hearing his voice cheers me up and stops the worrying for a few days...I hope that he feels the same way...LOL
Good Morning all! Just wanted to let you all know that I had sent 2 packages to Japan and this is what I have learned about both of those packages,
1. I mailed them both on the same day. One of them I insured. The other I requested a tracking on it. I did this from my computer at home thru the flat rate box from USPS.
2. The one insured is 4 days behind the other.
3. The one that I requested delivery status on DID track in all the way to Japan. So, that did work. Just thought y'all would like to know.
Got a busy week ahead. Lots of work around here to get done. Didn't get a whole lot done last week so I am gonna be wide open this week. Nothing near as fun as what CreativeVi is doing though!!!
I finally talked to my son yesterday. He said his chief asked who had not called home yet and gave them a phone card. I told him to thank the chief for me. He said he hadn't really had much time to call and the limited phones are always full and usually with a line. I told him those are the ones with wives and girlfriend and reminded him why its good to stay single. (Just my opinion but he's only 19) He said he's enjoying it and everything is good. This is his first deployment so I was glad to here that its good.
Hello, everyone! I am new to this site. My son just graduated from boot camp and is now in Pensacola awaiting "A" school. He received his orders a couple weeks ago. He wasn't too excited about Japan as he was hoping for Jacksonville (we are from Florida). This is the problem: He would like to get married in October after his school. He just found out that his new wife would not be able to join him in Japan until he's an E-4, which could take a few years. Is this true? Has this been anyone else's experience? My heart breaks for him and his fiance. They are so upset by this. My son texted me and said he's never been so depressed.
AaronsMom- I was typing the same exact posting just a mere month ago. (Read back on this forum about 8 pages or so) Our sailor ended up shipping out to Japan anyway. They got legally married at the local courthouse during his 10 day leave between the US and Japan. We are still trying to plan a wedding but with a date unknown. We were also told that it may be a year or more before she is able to join him if at all. Hey arrived on a late Thursday afternoon and was sent out on deployment the following Monday. He was never given a chance to even INDOC at this time as others have done. We didn't even have an address for him. I was in contact with the Ombudsman (panicking) and was finally able to get an address and we have received some calls and emails. It has been hard on all of us, especially them. Good Luck and I pray for the best for you and your family. Please know that every situation is indeed different.
Not sure why, but the tears are flowing pretty heavy this morning for some reason...my son has been on the GW for about 2 months now. I am a Navy vet and so is my husband but having a kid (he's 20 yrs old) so far away from home takes it toll on the best of us...I thought I was doing okay but today is brutal. I am so happy to have this site to vent and get some support. Thanks ladies and gents...I appreciate the support, always!
Hi Moms, my son has been on the GW for about 2 years now. I always send packages of goodies when he's at sea but would like to send him a phone card. Do I need to send a special kind or will one picked up at 7/11 do?
Hope you don't mind that I'm joining your group a little early. My son is currently in C school but will be heading to the GW in a few months. He is very excited about heading to Japan. Do you have any advice on things that him or I should take care of before he leaves the states. He's applied for a passport but what about a Power of Attorney? He's just 20 years old, single and has no bills! Also, he's curious about where he'll be living when he gets over there. Do they live on the ship when it's not deployed or do they have there own room on the base? I told him I'd try to find this info out for him. He laughs at me when I tell him about all the things I learn on N4M's! Thanks for any info you can give and I look forward to chatting with you all. Hope all of you and your Sailors are happy and healthy!
My son's been on the GW for about 2 months now, and I'm fairly new to this site; but in our case, he took his passport with him (already had one), I thought about getting the 'power of attorney' set up but I do have access to his bank account and can move stuff around if need be - he is also single with no bills so I didn't see the need for a 'power of attorney' move just yet. We have a family plan so his cell phone line is currently on 'military hold' (he buys a phone card to call home) - although we communicate more by email. The other moms can advise on other matters, like i said I'm also new to all of this but welcome aboard...you'll love the support here.
Hello Joshmom - There are many unexpected situations which can arise so I would definitely get a power of attorney before your son leaves. My son went off to Japan without signing the power of attorney and a situation arose where I needed to act in his behalf. It was quite frustrating until he had the papers drawn up by someone on the ship. I was a signer on his bank account already but that wasn't the issue. Living in close quarters on the ship is not so easy but there is so much about my son's assignment in Japan that he enjoys. Good luck to your son. He will be well taken care of.
katlanta - got my fingers crossed for your son on his E-5 exam.
Alicia - My son is in Biloxi. He's due to graduate around Thanksgiving. He was in bootcamp last year for the holidays and it looks like no Christmas with him again this year (the bummer part of being a Navy mom) We are going to his C school graduation so we'll just celebrate everything all at once! When will your son be done with school and headed for the GW?
Joshmom he will be heading to Japan the first week of December. And like you, this will year 2 missing the Holiday's with him :( gotta get used to it. But we are planning to make a trip to San Diego for thanksgiving so that will be nice! When was your sons PIR?
Katlanta - I WAS hoping for that but my son took 2 weeks between A and C school so he doesn't know if he' ll get it again. But there's another issue (a good one in my opinion though). His best friend whom he met in A school - were in the same div in bootcamp also-has the same orders as him and they are hoping to go to Japan together. My son has already informed me that even if he gets the opportunity to take leave he won't if it means not going with his buddy! He says he's so happy with his Navy life and can't wait to get to Japan. Says for us just to come down and see him off! So I'm making plans to spend Thanksgiving week in Biloxi! Gotta love Navy friendship! Btw, we've met his friend a couple of times and he's a great guy!
JGMom, I hope that you day got better. It's very difficult to have a child so far from home. Not being able to talk to them when ever you wish doesn't make it any easier. Thank you for venting with us. We all have our good days and bad. Perhaps you'll get a call or e-mail that will brighten the day! If not know that there are people in the same boat wishing you a better day tomorrow!
Joshmom, my son also has missed 2 Christmas and now in Japan, says he is staying there as many others are staying too. He loves Japan and being deployed. Makes a mom happy when they are happy. Hardest part for me is his only niece is 2, she was born 4 months before he reported for bootcamp. Sad!, but when she meets that Uncle G that she sees on Skype, it will be like meeting Elmo or Big Bird. LOL
Katlanta - wishing your sailor good outcome on his test.
Joshmom I sent you a friend request! I have been on this group since I found out my son will be on the GW; just gathering knowledge and getting used to the idea that he will be gone for 3 years. This group of ladie is amazing. Not sure if your part of Japan Mom's or not but that is also a wonderful group!
Welcome to the new Moms. I have found so much valuable information here and wonderful conversations.
JGMOM – I totally understand, I'm a Navy Vet, but it's so different when you have your own kid in the military now. My son has been on the GW for about 1 month and its hard not hearing from him, wondering/thinking about him everyday. He just had his birthday this week and I miss him terribly. Well, hoping to hear from him sometime soon if they port somewhere.
Hello every one it has been a while since I have been on here my Son has been gone since April. He is loving Japan. and now my youngest has joined the Navy I am so very proud of them both, and I know this is the best thing for both, but is it ok to be selfish and really just want them both home
JGMOM - I clicked on your page and discovered I just live about an hour south of you. I sent you a friend request. There's a M&G just across the river from you next Saturday and would love for you to come. Hope your having a good day!
Laura47460 - WooHoo 2 Sailors in the family!!!! That makes you doubley proud!
We had a long chat with our son from the GW yesterday. He just wanted to catch up on what's been happening with the family and talk about coming home for Christmas. They have been out there for a while now, communications are on and off. A relaxing day in a hotel or at the beach is sounding pretty good right now, a regular day at home even better.
