USS George Washington Sailors

Good Evening..I haven't heard from my son since they left port, beginning to think I'm the only one who hasn't heard from their sailor : (  Does anyone have any updates on the super typhoon headed towards Japan and Korea?  Thanks for  all the support, it means alot!!

my understanding from a phone conversation with my son last night, that is not where they are headed right now.

thanks, katlanta and gamagnolia, that makes me feel better.  I really kind of felt that they would be able to get out of the storm's path but extra prayers will be said for them this evening! 

I'm on that FB page everyday and I'm so thankful for all the pics and all the families who comment!  and yes, that is the bluest water I have ever seen!

I keep saying that people pay good hard earned money to see that beautiful water and they get paid to see it!

Good morning ladies, I just wanted to share this to those who like me might not have seen this before but if you have Netflix and you guys want to have a sense of what are kids are going through on a daily basis you might want watch "Carrier" - its a documentary about the USS Nimitz but I'm sure it's about the same where our kids are at... very eye opening. Needless to say I'm balling... and I'm having so much more respect for my girl who lives it every day and my son who's thinking of joining. Have a great weekend ladies. God bless!!

I absolutely LOVE my Kindle. I do not know what I would without.  I have had mine for a few years and I know that I have only paid for a small handful and not full price.  There are so many free books and books under $3 that you can read those forever, They keep adding new ones daily.

Miriam43 - WOW! Is there such a thing as a good cry...because I am currently watching the documentary, and I too have much respect for these men and women (not that I didn't before - just a new found respect). Thank you so much for letting us in on this documentary...much appreciated!

My boy struggled with reading also...my girl just loved it! In bootcamp his first letter - no, make that note, started out with the following 'you guys know how I hate writing letters' :) But boy does he read now that he is on the ship - during his leave after 'A' school' he ordered some books and packed them up just in case he had to pass the time (if he couldn't get to the internet to play games)and it's a good thing ;) As always...thanks for the support ladies!

@JGMOM - Sure thing! I just began watching it this morning and had to wait before I could get myself to watch the next episode... i was too emotional. There are 10 episodes... i'm sure all ten are going to take our breath away... much respect for these guys and of course girls. Theirs is not an easy job and they do need our prayer and support 100%

Much talk of kindles, my son has a tablet and I guess quite a few do.  So FYI they can download ebooks onto them.  My sis got a tablet and started reading her kindle books on her tablet. 

Miriam43 haven't watched the documentary yet, but FUNGUS eek!

Nancy W I don't believe they can download at just anytime, but when they are in port and have Wifi,  fill those tablets and kindles up for the next stretch at sea :)

I'm glad to know that someone has some books on the ship.  My son has always been an avid reader and he bought himself a Nook before he left.  I too wondered if they could download book while at sea. I will have to ask him if he ever calls.  I did send him a couple magazines in his care package, I figured he give them to someone else when he was done.

My son bought a kindle back around Christmas. He LOVES to read but I don't know how much time he has for pleasure reading now.

Can someone please tell me how I can get in touch with my son for a very important matter? Is that possible??

In my last conversation with my daughter she reminded me that the best way to contact her for emergency purposes was thru the Red Cross.

Oh, yeah and the Ombudsman team were awesome help too!

My son is heading to the GW.....I don't know if I can say where he will meet the ship and what day...but it is soon they will be in port......Here is a recent picture of it crusing around the pacific ocean at sunset....It is beautiful!!!.....I have been crying all day knowing that I won't be able to talk and text to him like I can now.....I want to send a package to the ship...can somebody give me an address please...Thanks!

My daughter went to Yokosuka on June 8th and is currently on the USS George Washington as a Damage Controlman. I haven't been on Navy for Moms since her basic training days, but I am back and really appreciate that you have a USS GW group. So how is everyone doing? I am just missing her like crazy and can't wait to hear from her. :)

My Sailor arrived in Japan on Tuesday night and will be there for 3 years. Shed many tears on Sunday and Monday but 1 happy Mommy today he called me this morning and said he brought a new phone and it has an app called magic jack that allows him to call the states for free. So he wanted me to pass this info on to the other Navy Mom's.

Tears will flow... not sure if they'll ever stop flowing. Can't say it gets "better" but you do get "used" to it. Today was not a good day for me I woke up with a sour feeling in my stomach and I know it's depression... it sucks soo bad cause as much as I try, it doesn't go away. It doesn't happen as frequently as it used to, but it still happens every once in a while. Today just so happens to be the day... oh well, THANK GOD for this website... that's all I can say. This website helps me vent, throw it out there and have the knowledge that you all are literally on the same boat and know exactly how I feel... there's something powerfully theraputic about knowing that. @ Dawny64 - That's how long my daughter has. I can't even wrap my head arround that so I won't (otherwise I won't stop from crying) I just try to take it one day at a time and ask God to help me get through each day and he always does... hang in there. It's hard but it does get easier to accept (funny how that is) you'll still have your moments but not as often. Thanks for the heads up on the magic jack... I'll let my girl know.

Yes, tears do flow...some days more than others but I always say thanks to God for watching over our sailors, and thanks to the ladies here for their support.

My Sailor said he should be on the ship in the next few days yes we are going to try to make it there maybe not next year but in 2014 what a wonderful 50th birthday present that would be.

Thank you Katlanta, I too came to see if anyone had any news. Mine is one of the last ones off....or so my hubby tells me, this is my son's first "cruise" I'm excited for him. 

Although mine has been on facebook today...I haven't heard from him directly yet.

Had a two liner email from my boy this morning.  He says we are going to skype this weekend.... pray, pray, pray and NOT setting my phone down.  So excited I can just dance.

I am one very happy Navy Mom today! Sailor called this moring at 2:47 am. Praying everyone gets to hear from their sailors over next few days.

i Ihad a 2AM call but missed it! I just had another call....YAY doing the happy ma dance (:

It is a happy day for all of us!  Thank you Father for watching over our son's and daughter's.  Be with each sailor as they work, watch and play.  Bless us all!

Amen.  Had a ten o'clock  text message last night from my daughter that they had arrived safe and sound.
