I haven't received my call yet (which is fine). I'm just glad they're enjoying themselves. I'm soo happy to hear you ladies though... the happiness is overwhelming and so theraputic. Wouldn't it be nice if we were able to meet for coffee or something?!? Wow... that would be great! Myself, I'm from Chicago just in case Chi-town is in the house and would like to get together for coffee ;0) Otherwise, I love being a part of this group. Words can't describe how grateful I am for this website, for ALL you ladies, and for the support you guys provide... Anybody want to look me up i'm on facebook - miriam juarez (my cover is the american flag in shape of a heart). Here's hoping I get my call today. Crossing my fingers for myself and all that are still waiting to hear from their sailors :) God bless... have a great weekend :)
it is Saturday, September 22, 2012 and a little after 5:00 AM in Guam right now. The info on the GW fb page indicates that they will be in Guam for several days. Some have duty. My sailor has duty tomorrow. I am praying that everyone gets a call soon.
Mine has not called yet but he did post at facebook that he talked to his wife for 3 1/2 hrs....since when did she become so important?? lol He did also post that it was late there at the time and he had to be on duty in 8 hrs so, I will forgive him for today. :-) Guess I'll sip a 'Rita and have a cabana boy sit by the phone in case it rings......... I said, ring!!!!
Hope everyone gets to hear from their sailors soon.
I got a text at 7AM , good morning Mom. Such beautiful words. Also e mail sayingit might be niceto get the family together for dinner tomorrow night. SKYPE time..it has been 4 months since he seen his neice, 4 mo is big in a 2 yr old. So excited!!!!
I'm so excited, haven't gotten my call yet...son has duty. But after 11PM my time... I'll be sleeping with my phone, computer running skype. YES! Thank you God for all the happy dances. Chicago Mom... I'll visit you next time I'm in town. I'm in WI.
SCREAM!!!! 2 seconds before we got cut off. Pray for me ladies that he tries again. I'm actually at bingo, but it came through on my cell phone. OH GOD PLEASE!
Daughter skyped me for a couple of minutes. She is still on 'the boat' as she calls it. Still on duty. She said she will be going off duty tomorrow night sometime and head to the hotel. So some of the ones that haven't contacted, may still be on duty.
Thanks Janis, I haven't heard from my girl yet so I'm assuming the same thing...glad to hear you at least got a couple of minutes to see her beautiful face! I know that must have given you peace in your heart just being able to see her. I know it does for me. Here's hoping I hear from my girl. I probably won't be too upset if she doesn't call since she e-mails me a lot from the ship and I try to not be too overbearing cause I know they're really busy and I don't want her to think she "has" to call and checkin (I think they get enough of that on the ship)... it's always nice to hear her voice though when she does ;0)
I sit here with tears in my eyes as I read all your posts about how you're waiting to hear from your Sailors. My son is in Pensacola and starts A school next week. He has orders to Japan to join up with the George Washington. I know it won't be too long before it's ME posting about waiting to hear from my Sailor.
So excited! Got a call Thurs. night to say he wanted to Skype Friday. Skyped for almost 2 hrs. Watch for a US area code, didn't answer the first time since I'm used to anonymous calls unless its his cell phone. It was a 617 area code from the USO. He and his buddies have rented a room in a 5star hotel, water park and all! Says its the nicest place he's ever stayed and LOVES sleeping in a REAL bed, lol. His friends were in the room so I finally got to "meet" a couple of the ones I've been hearing about and seen in some pics. They had us crackin up, especially as they told of their adventure hiking in Japan.... So happy everyone is getting messages and calls.
Just had a nice skype with my son. He was enjoying his stay in a real bed!!! Sure was good to see him and he got to play with that lil neice Caela. They played together in the tent we built over the computer. She hugged the computer to say good bye. So nice to see, as she was 4 months when he went to bootcamp and is now 2 yrs old. That is the hardest part for me, the loss of that relationship for the two of them, but he will be that magical Uncle when he does visit and send gifts from far places.
ABF mom, I don't know the answer to the first question, but to get on the Ombudsman's newsletter, your sailor has to send an e-mail from his navy account to the Ombudsman giving him your name and e-mail address and his ok to have you added to the list. I'm currently in the process of trying to get my son to do this as well.
Kimberly and ABF mom - you can email the ombudsman yourselves. They will email you back and request details about your son/daughter (rate, etc). They will get in contact with them to confirm then let you know they have add you to the list. This is what I did. It was easy.
The ombudsman now has a FB page where the actual newsletter is posted. They changed this process just a week ago or so. You can still be added to their email list though just in case they send emails for other reasons.
To get on the Ombudsman email list all you do is send the Ombudsman a email requesting to be put on the list. In the email make sure you put your Sailors name, rate and department. The Ombudsman will send a email to your Sailor asking if it is OK for you to be put on the list.
I sent an email to the Ombudsman first and was told that my sailor had to e-mail them to request it and that I was not allowed to ask to be added. I don't know why? I am a friend on their FB page. Oh well I forwarded the e-mail to my son and asked him to take care of it and he's usually good at making mom happy.
still no call. I have to go shopping and run errands but I'm afraid to leave the house. My cell is charged completely, now if I can figure out how to forward calls I can go do what needs doing. I went to two post offices yesterday to mail him a package. I hope he's off seeing the world and exploring new things!
Thanks Imnadelady, no more from my sailor. My last message was done on purpose. I want to keep up, but not reread everything. It's been a hard weekend knowing my sailor has been in distress and not able to talk with him and yet hearing everyone else's good news. Sorry sour grapes here, just the truth. I realize that it's up to my sailor to make the effort. I'm getting the his clue, I'm just not sure how to live like this. I've made myself sick this weekend and good thing my husband wasn't around to take out my bad mood on. I am so full of self pity and anger, I don't like myself. I think it's time to release myself from this situation, just need to figure out how. Self preservation needs to set in.
CreativeVi - so sorry to hear you're feeling so low. I can relate to the constant worry and the stomach ache it creates! I too am still waiting for that nice long phone call...Did I miss something that's going on with your son? I will hope & pray that everything is alright with him.
Kimberly, Luke's Mom & momof2sailors thanks for taking time to answer my query.
And yessss, my sailor texted me around 4am California time. He said it was raining and they were soaking wet upon arriving the GW, besides that, I'm glad he's safe.
Katlanta, I sent you a friend request and a message. I did not get to talk to my son. I think he was too busy seeing the sights and chilling out. I did get to Facebook message with him a few minutes on Saturday morning.
Sending you virtual hugs CreativeVi. I am sure what you are feeling is something all of us have felt at one point or another. I know I have. It's an awful feeling :( Don't hate yourself, these feelings are real and they are ok. Just another thing to make us stronger in the end. Hugs, prayers and positive thoughts coming your way :)
No call, no skype, no nothing...I'm really a very layed back mom... I've even been called a "cool" mom - I understand she want's "freedom" - and I'm sure there's a reason why I haven't heard from her (I used to be 20 myself) but still...sucks big time... it's almost like I'm angry but the only thing that comes our are tears... and all I can do is, inhale, exhail, inhail, exhail...someone said sour grapes? uhm... yea, sour something :(
I'm happy to hear everyone else got a chance to hear from their sailor and I'm glad to know they're doing well.
Hi Ladies, I have been a member of this group for a few weeks now, and this is my first post my daughters BF is at the airport, preparing to fly to GW from Japan. I have been a N4M member for 3 years now, My son arrived at Groton, CT. a few weeks ago after 22 months of learning, my nephew is currently on the Enterprise and my daughter is preparing to leave for BC in November. I Learn more and more every day, thanks to you ladies. Thank you for that!
To all moms - those who heard from their sailors and those who have yet to hear - know that they are safe...some relaxing, others on duty for a while, but all are in good hands and will 'call home' eventually - cause we are moms and they love us and know how we worry about them, but we as moms will trade a phone call for a happy, healthy and relaxed sailor any day :)
Thanks everyone, I too agree with the comment that I will trade a phone call for a happy and healthy sailor and I know he is both right now. I actually told him if he didn't have time to call I would be ok. I knew he had limited time because he's so new and I wanted him to see and experience all that he could in his time.
My son is getting off duty soon. We have a skype appointment at 10:30pm EST. It may or may not happen I know, but I will get my arms around him eventually!
ARGHHH...my sailor called and I missed it! He bought a disposable cellphone. How do ya make an international call j/k but I actually tried to call him back. I posted on his FB "PLEASE call back" and nuttin' yet.
Thanks Nancy W, I'm sure I'll be hearing from her soon... I can wait a little longer before my next meltdown... she was emailing me for a while a few weeks ago... but I haven't heard from her since. I know she's super busy though and I can imagine when they get liberty they forget or maybe just don't feel like calling? Plus she doesn't have a phone (her phone was stolen while she was in China) poor kid, it was her very first cell phone under HER contract. She had bought an Apple I-Phone 4. I had bough her a Coach wristlet so she could always keep it on hand, well I'm assuming someone must have cut it right from her wrist while in China cause she said she was carrying her phone with her and next thing you know she wasn't. She was like "mom, there was soo many people but I didn't feel anything it was just gone from my wrist!" I'm like maybe it slipped? She's was crying hysterical, "MOM IT DID NOT SLIP"... that time she had a 5 day leave... she stayed in the hotel room for three days crying. Eventually her friends were like girl, you NEED to get out... crying here is not going to get your phone back and all you're doing is wasting your leave. Eventually, they convinced her to get out and explore but she was miserable. I don't think she ever got over that.
Well my day didn't start out to great. I woke up at 8:05. I have to be at work by 9. I ran and jumped in the shower. When I got out I noticed the answering machine blinking. 4 Messages begging me to please pick up. My son was running out of minutes on his calling card. After hearing the messages let behind my eyes filled up and before they could spill there content the phone rang. He was calling one more time before giving up. I GOT TO TALK TO MY BOY!!!! He had a great time in Guam. Said it was beautiful, and he did some diving. He stayed at a hotel and ate "American" food. He said he would have called earlier but his phone card kept saying he needed more minutes and he couldn't get it fixed till Monday. Right after we hung up his sister called from college(she's the baby). I was late for work, but I went in with a smile from ear to ear. When I checked my e-mail at work my son had sent an e-mail. A call and an e-mail in one day< who knew that's all it would take to make my day! For those of you who haven't heard from your sailors, stay strong. Know that we are all here for you and understand how you feel.
Nancy W - It's definately not easy on the family especially when the children are so small - they just don't understand... it sucks :( But I'm glad to hear your sailor skyped (technology)... don't you just love it!! Being able to SEE him, talk to him...wow good for you!! :)
Stephsmom - 4th I-Phone?!!? Oh wow, its funny but at the same time it really isn't cause they're so expensive to replace... tracking device uh? maybe that's not a bad idea - lol ;0)
She said she kept wanting to call to wish me a happy belated birthday but that the lines for using the phone were too long (I didn't think of that) - I can almost imagine her going to the phone, seeing how long the line is, rollling her eyes (she's good at that) and just walking away... she did wish me a happy belated birthday :) She also said she never received her computer :( I sent her computer back on August 18th and I had it insured. Since then, I sent her two other packages those she received. Do you guys think (since it's insured) that they leave the box at the base instead of sending it to the ship - i'm assuming?
Other than that, I'm SOOOOOO happy I heard from my girl... gotta go shopping to send the next box out :)
Have a great day ladies, for those who still haven't heard from their sailors... I'm keeping you in my prayers so you can hear from them soon - God bless :)
My son had to be back on the ship for duty at a certain time so we skyped from the makeshift pub right on the pier where the ship was docked. I could see a tent where they were serving pizza and drinks. We chit chatted and counted down the minutes before he had to go. He looked rested and relaxed. So happy they all had a chance to recharge.
I didn't get to hear my sailor's voice, but he did post some pics on facebook. He FINALLY took a pic of himself so I could see his face. I haven't had a skype since May :( I don't post alot, buy I'm very thankful for this group. Seeing the messages from all of you really helps. Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to do the holidays differently. My son said he wouldn't be able to come home for Christmas. He was expecting to come in Feb or March, but said that leave was cancelled in March, so he didn't know when he could come. He was looking into leave, and told that he had to have 10 days on the books at all times, for emergencies. So now it will be even longer before he can come home. My son was given a month home for the holidays after A-school, before going to Japan. He has spent all this time paying back those days. Now that he is earning days, he doesn't get to spend them. Does anyone know how many days must be on the books before a vacation can be scheduled?
I agree, this site is awsome. Sometimes your mind plays tricks on you and you start thinking things that aren't true (at least I know that happens to me). At the end of the day, we're their MOMS and we know our kids. Sometimes we're the first person on their list, other times we're the last and hell other times we're not even ON the list :( It all depends on their mood (which we have to respect) and in this case, their circumstances (which a lot of time is out of their control). As for me, I need to keep positive, and know that if she doesn't call, it's not because of anything negative, it's just that I know my girl, she doesn't have a phone, she's not going to ask for a phone, she's not going to wait in line forever... and so there ya go...but she's fine, and at the end of the day... that's all I wanna know.
I love this site though, the comments you ladies make here are very uplifting and comforting and for that I'll be eternally grateful. This site is one of the things that helps me keep it together and I'm glad i'm in this group :) {{hugs}}
Katlanta - thanks for posting. Yes, my son went to Japan, January of this year. When he was told no in regard to the holidays, he was hoping to come in Feb or March. He was told that leave was cancelled for March, so he was not able to apply for it. My son has been wanting to come home and see his girlfriend, so he's in pretty poor spirits right now. Maybe you can share some ideas for the holidays for us "newbies" who just don't know what to do with ourselves yet!
Hi all...glad everybody is getting to communicate with their sailor....I got a one minute phone call with his address...but I'm not sure of the order of the numbers.....AIMD IM4 FPO AP 96650.....can anybody help with the order.....How long does a package usually take and what things do they like to get??? He sounded tired.....hasn't slept because of the rocking of the ship......which I assume he will get used to.....
Does anyone know how we find out when they will return to port. I'm thinking about going to visit my daughter in Japan and would love to see the ship sail back into port and be there to greet her when she walks off. I'm on the Ombudsman email list but didn't hear anything the last time they came back until after the fact. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks!

So glad to know that you ladies heard from your sailors.
My sailor just got on GW, since he's still new, does it take long for me to hear from him?
How can I get listed to Ombudsman's newsletter so i can receive updates?
Hope someone can take time to answer my questions. thanks.
Sep 22, 2012

ABF mom, I don't know the answer to the first question, but to get on the Ombudsman's newsletter, your sailor has to send an e-mail from his navy account to the Ombudsman giving him your name and e-mail address and his ok to have you added to the list. I'm currently in the process of trying to get my son to do this as well.

I love this site though, the comments you ladies make here are very uplifting and comforting and for that I'll be eternally grateful. This site is one of the things that helps me keep it together and I'm glad i'm in this group :) {{hugs}}

So true! I do better with emails from my sailor. I was relieved when he FINALLY got the packages I sent. The cookies were still good!

Thanks!
