kathryn,
I don't believe the DOD has released any information on the two sailors as of yet. My Seabee nephew has orders to leave for A'stan in two weeks - yep, Navy Mom Strong, Seabee Mom Stronger.
Are the 2 missing Navy men Sailors or Seabees? The media says Sailor or servicemen, but I haven't heard any of them refer to them as Seabees. Of course, either way it is not good and my prayers and my heart go out to their families.
cudawn - we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, Long Beach, MS which is only about 5 miles from the base. There is the Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi, ship excursion out to the barrier islands which we didn't get to do because of the oil and we went to New Orleans for a day. If your interested in New Orleans I can send you a more detailed list on where to park and what you might like to see.
I just read on the internet that they found the body of one of our men, but are still looking for the other one. What a sad day for all of us. I pray for the families and friends.
This just brings tears to my eyes as I think about Justin McNeley. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. May God help them in this sad time. "God Bless you Justin."
DOD Announces Navy Casualty and Identifies Sailor Listed as Whereabouts Unknown
The Department of Defense announced today the death of a sailor and the identity of another sailor listed as Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown (DUSTWUN). The announcement resulted from a July 23 incident in Logar province, Afghanistan, while the sailors were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Justin McNeley, 30, of Wheatridge, Colo., died from wounds sustained from the July 23 incident. Coalition Forces recovered his body July 25 after an extensive search. He was assigned to Assault Craft Unit One (ACU-1), San Diego.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Jarod Newlove, 25, of Renton, Wash., is listed as DUSTWUN from the July 23 incident. Search and recovery efforts are ongoing, and the incident is under investigation.
Thank You Sharon, Im so happy I found you girls! This is where I should have been 3 years ago. lol I finally found a place where I can have a voice and now I know Im a normal mom. lol
Jarod we're praying for God's arms to be around you and his armor of protection be all about you...for your family, may God fill you with his love and give you peace, comfort, and encouragement during this time..I will be praying daily for safe return of your son.
Thank you to all of you Navy Moms who say it so well that which we all feel but are not so good at the words. My deepest sympathy to friends and family of the fallen sons and daughters.
KRWmom, it is indeed a sad time for our Navy families. I'm happy to say we know one young man safely on his way home from A'Stan as we celebrate his return, we worry about all of the others there now or heading that way.
KRWmom - is your son a reservist or enlisted? My nephew leaves on Aug 15th for his eight weeks of training in Gulfport and then will be joining your son. Trying to understand if they get any leave time before heading to A'stan or when we say goodbye in two weeks will we get to see him again before he leaves?
kathryn: We all go thru periods of depression and crying..it's perfectly normal...as you progress thru deployment you will find things do get better...you will still have moments of worry and crying...but you will get there..hang in there...know we're here for you when you need to vent...cry...or just say hallelujah he's home.
kathryn, our reservist reports to Gulfport the week before your son does for his eight weeks of training. Needless to say the horrible news this week is adding to everyone's fear. Glad that we have so much support today -
Came across this article about a group of Reservists that just did their eight week training in Gulfport and thought many would enjoy reading.
I hope they get liberty, the hug hes going to get..........I may not be able to let him go for awhile. lol KRW hang in there, I feel your nervousness It's something as moms we just do. I have a tip for you that may help. you or your seabee(maybe easier for you) can buy a phone from roshan.af/pas.htm and you can upload minutes from your computer anytime. Its a safe site I use it all the time its callingmart.com. Its so nice. Sometimes I get text from my son "Hi mom" and thats all I need to make my day. I hope this helps! Hugs!
hello all...new to the group..my son's PIR is 8/27/10..he's G&G..off to Missiouri for A school..then ????...Im new at all this but our PIR group if full of great support..glad to have this group though to help with this next adventure of Seabee life.
Kamile577: Yes I am...Tyler is in the DP group...will be arriving verrrrryyyyy sooooooonn! Are you a DP or AP mom? We're going down to meet the bus when they arrive...we only live about 2 1/2 hours from Gulfport.
Joanie--I know Pike County..been thru there couple times...if Zac ends up at Gulfport then I will definitely look you up!!! Im Blount County just north of Bham
Carol F: We have all been there. My son left several months ago and will be returning very very soon. We prepare as best we can, but until it actually happens, you can't be 100% ready. When my son left he said he had been told no calls, no internet, no nothing....we got to Facebook several times a week, and I was thrilled about that. I sometimes call his cell phone just to hear his voice on the message. It is very hard to go through, but just as he grows while he's gone, so do the moms left behind. I will be praying for you and your son. Come here often and let us help you get through this. Bravo Zulu to your son.
To all the Bee moms, I feel for you as I went through this in the early part of this year. I encourage you to use this site for your support and to send letters and care packages as often as you can-its like a therepy, you really feel connected to your love one. One must have is a computer camera to take and a skype account created before he/she leaves. You never know when your going to get that much needed surprise. My son comes home soon but like you I wont be comfortable until hes on american soil. My heart goes out to you all. It does go buy pretty fast, but it doesnt make it any easier I know. Big Hugs to you all. Thank God we have each other.
Hello Everyone. I haven't had a chance to check in for a bit. I have my son home on leave from completing his A school. He is headed to Gulfport in another week or so. My heart and prayers go out to those who have Seabees deployed or being deployed. I know that could be me very soon! God will keep them safe! Just wanted everyone to know about a little place I found on line in Gulfport. When we were there a few years back, it was just before hurricane Katrina, so every place we stayed and saw was destroyed. I found a place called Magnolia Plantation in Gulport. It's a plantation they have turned into a bed and breakfast resort type place. You can check it out on line, but they have resonable rates that include a small snack type reception in the afternoons and full breakfast buffet in the mornings. We will be staying there in a couple of weeks, so I will let you know. But I do a lot of checking and this was certainly the best value for the money and the reviews were all good!! I'm so glad to have my son home for a bit. He did wonderfully at his A school. He looks great! We are just so proud of him and all those serving!! God Bless our Navy!
RobinM..I have heard that the Magnolia Plantation is good from friends of mine traveled that way..we arent too far from there here in Bama..bout 4-5 hour drive..so if he needs a navy mom he can call on me..Im proud for you to have some time with your son..mine will be heading to A school after grad 8/27..where was your sons??
I am praying for all of you and our deploying seabees!
'We fight, We win' OORAH!!!
Hi djloch. My son was in Ft. Leonard Wood for his A school. I appreciate the info and I will definately let him know if he needs anything you aren't as far away as we are...13 hours. :(. This website has been such a saving grace for me with support prayers and info!!
RobinM- thats where my son is going too for his A school. Was your son able to have his cell phone and call home home alot or how will all that work.. This website has been my sanity!
djloch...he was allowed to have his cell phone. So he called and or texted when he had opportunity. He liked it there for the most part...was really hot. They keep them busy but I'm sure he will like it.
My son is with nmcb18. anyone else? He was previously with 133rd.
PS- I get such a joyfull feeling when I see that someone is getting to have a homecoming event!!! I can feel the happiness coming through!!
I just read about the second sailor found from the two missing last week. Im so sad. My hearts go out to the two families. I cant help to think that could be any of us. I wish we could send them a card and let them know we are here for them. I know one thing for sure, when my son gets home I will take a good long look at him and be greatful he standing there in front of me.
djloch...I think that's a great idea. My husband bought our son a Navy lighter and had it engraved with his name and BC grad date and A school grad date. He loved it very much!
Had a talk with my son tonight. Very sad. He seemed sad and/or bored. I asked him and he said it's hard to explain but he's ready to head to his duty station. He said it's different being home (around old friends and such). Said he is just ready to go back. It's what he's gotten used to and he's ready to be back. Is this normal? Cause I do and don't understand. He said he misses us when he's gone but likes his life away. I guess that kind of makes me sad in ways I wasn't ready for. Anyone feel this way?
Kamile57. Woo Hoo!! How exciting!! And thanks ladies for the info and support. I really was kind of hoping for these kinds of feelings for him. That he would love it and be excited about it. I just don't want to be without him...and know I can't have it both ways. Kind of crazy right!
