Hi Cody's mom. My son is in A school too. He keeps me updated on a regular basis (daily) so if I hear anything I will let you know. Where is he at? My son is in Gulfport.
there is NO WAY you could ever be the mean mom!! you just like to tell is like it is and as a red head I can appreciate that! :-)
Im a new Seabee mom. My son is very proud of his rate and I am very proud of that and everything our men/women do. There is a reason for EVERY job in every branch and for anyone to disregard any job just shows their ignorance!!!
Glad my seabee son is home for the long weekend.....he went grocery shopping yesterday...first time for him....he did fairly well with it.....But he says he'll just continue to eat out...hahaha....I'm stuck on bed rest for a torn muscle in my gluteus maximus (backside)...had cortisone injection yesterday....lots of muscle relaxants.....lots of pain...hope to feel better soon....Wishing everyone a great Labor Day weekend...Seabees Rock!
Amen Sharon.....we need some of their strength....Yay that your son is so mature to worry about the rent check...If Tyler had an apartment, he would just say mom handle that and he wouldnt worry at all...hahaha.
i'm not a mom of a Seabee but i am a retired Bee. I was in the cryptology field for my first 10 years and we were our own little world. We were the pampered group of the navy. After i got out, went back in 2 1/2 yrs later, i had to cross-rate and got chosen for the Bees. Best cross-rate i could have ever hoped for. For you parents out there worrying about your children in the Seabees, rest assured, they are being taken care of. They are an incredible community and we were indeed a tight knit community. Family members included.
Hi my name is Lorena and my son is a seabee. I just joined Navy for Moms and my son is a seabee and has been in for 5 years and he just reuped for 3 more. i am looking forward to being on this site.
thanks Robin for those words!! My son is in A school in MO right now and Im just waiting see where he will land next..he is hoping that he will get overseas duty right off..did any of yours do that??
Thanks so much for getting back to me. I find it so hard to get to talk to anyone about the seabees and I am so glad to have this group. I was starting to feel like I would not find anyone who has a seabee in the navy. My son just left Mississippi and is stationed in Washington state and we finally conviced him to stay in whih I am so glad considering I just became a grandma for the first time.
@ djloch (zac's mom). I went to Sicily out of my "A" school. It was public works and it was my best duty station i'd ever been to. The Seabees there were such a wonderful family. I was a single mom with a young daughter and she was included in this family. We worked hard and played hard. The work was plenty. The island is lovely and the people are really awesome if you let them get to know you.
@ Yvette, yes, Gulfport is humidity haven. I was never so glad to have ended a duty station and get out of there. I'm from RI so going to Ms was a complete culture shock! Did meet my husband there, retired out of there and went back to Sicily as a spousal unit!
I was there for two weeks this summer. It is horribly humid, however, the people are warm and friendly, the food is amazing(Gulf SHRIMP), the trees are lovely, and the sea coast is beautiful. So it's not so bad. Yes, the commissary at the air base in Biloxi is nicer than the commissary at the Seabee base in Gulfport, but only because they had to rebuild theirs after Katrina while the Seabee one stood through the storm.
Hello All, Haven't been here in a while. Just a lot going on. My son graduates from is combat school tomorrow in Gulfport. So very proud of him. Wish we could be there, but a very long drive!! Does anyone know if there is a website or something where they can see their orders? My son doesn't seem to know anything about anything until the very last minute. Is that normal? Fine either way, but would just like to know sooner if there's a way to check that. Helps in the trip planning!! Thanks to everyone for this great place to stay connected and supported!!
My son is in bremerton and loves it he always like cool weather and water and trees. my son was in CB7 in Gulfport for 5 years and needed a break from humidity. He is about 5 minutes from the base,
Kelly, that is a gorgeous picture that says it all! It is nice to cry with happiness instead of fear and worry. Thank you so very much for sharing your family with us.
I do wish I could... but she's in Gulfport MS, so I have to be patient. I'm just glad son is there now. I was there when she was born though, and the first 2 weeks of her life.
Hi y'all. New Navy mom here. My son just graduated undesignated from GL and has been assigned to Coronado CA to join a Seabee unit (don't know which one). Any tips on where I can go to research Seabee's and Coronado? What to expect? What he may end up doing?
And can I ask, because frankly I'm nervous, do they send brand new boot camp grads straight to Afghanistan or do they integrate them with their units first?
Thanks NitaBee - thanks for the welcome! What you've said all makes sense but I've noticed that not everything I think makes sense makes sense to the powers that be ;-) Relieved to hear that if he does go to a war zone at least he'll have the proper training and one trusts, common sense.
I'll check out the links. No "A" school since he's undesignated (no rate). He's surprised to be going to Seabees, but as he told me he'll do what he can to make it work. He did well in boot camp and maintained a great attitude, so if that continues it should all be fine.
I mentioned my son going to Seabees to my husband (2nd marriage) and he said all the Seabees he's known have been VPs of companies. He's in the oil business and I guess they learn skills that translate well to industry which is always good. I'll be interested to see where this takes my kiddo and look forward to hanging out online with y'all.
LynB...my husband and i both are retired seabees. The seabees are an incredible aspect of the Navy. We are a tight knit group and for the most part, enjoy what we do while in the Navy. We are taught incredible skills and each job is a challenge and we make it fun. Your son will go thru alot of training to hone his skills. Not only will he learn the building aspects of his job but he will learn combat skills too. He is in good hands with the Bees. He will not be thrown to the wolves. My husband was a heavy equipment operator. He is now a Senior Superintendent building bridges in NJ. He can jump on any piece of equipment be it, dozer to heavy lifting cranes. They'd just hired some guy to work the crane and according to this new guy, he could run cranes around that crane. Anyhow, long story short? Wasn't able to snow my husband and down the road that guy went.
My time with the Seabees was incredible. Because we are a smaller community and pretty much our own separate entity of the Military, we looked upon each other for support and they are family. And not only just the military members were close, our families were welcomed with open arms also. In the Bees, we worked really hard but we played really hard also. It was the best times of my career. Your son (and you) should be extremely proud to be going into the Bees. We welcome him! And you!
Thanks so much for the great welcome and all the links y'all. Going to check them all out now. My son is still in Great Lakes and doesn't have a phone or computer of his own so we haven't been able to communicate as much as I'd prefer...I'm in Australia for the time being (husbands job) so there's a 13 hour time difference in addition to the logistics of international calls. My brother in law went to his PIR for me so at least I do have one photo of him in uniform :-)
Can't wait till he's back on a computer so we can Skype for about an hour! I may know more than he does by then thanks to all these links!
I think I might have found my group! I'm so excited! That is if things stay the same with my daughter who is in her third week at Great Lakes. So, as of right now she is a Seabee. I guess that could change? Looking forward to being a Seabee mom!
@ LynB- Our son is in Coronado-all I can say is go visit him-it is absolutely beautiful there! He has been there since November last year. They love it, except for the fact that it is so expensive.
Hi Dona! Glad to hear your son loves it there. Hopefully my kid will too. I've got family in northern CA but haven't had much time in the San Diego area so I'm looking forward to visiting him. Its an adventure!
Hello ladies,
My son's PIR is 10/8 I just found out from another mom that the whole division is Grad and Go I was just wondering are Seabee's always Grad and Go?
