No use worrying about them just block em and move on. They are bitter. You will find even more people hate the military and consider them baby killers and criminals. I always am telling my friends dont waste your life away worrying about them, while they waste their life being bitter.
Although there are some girls and thats truly what they are up to. And they do ruin it for the rest of us who actually like our sailors most days ;) lol

Jasmine - it probably speaks more about the twitter poster than it does about military spouses. There are bad apples in every bunch of people, we aren't defined by them though.

lol when people try to say cute things like that I just laugh and walk away. No reason to let their bad mojo in your life. It doesnt mean anything except that they have issues with their own life and themselves lol

Hi! I'm not really a navy wive yet... my husband leaves in september for rtc and I have been so emotional lately it's crazy. We have not been apart for 3 years and I am scared I will not be able to handle the time apart well. I am hoping this site will give some good advice so that I am not a hot mess for those 8 weeks.

Hey Guys!
I was just wondering if anyone knew about the housing in Norfolk, VA. My husband got stationed on the USS Kearsarge. He is scheduled to come home in around 12 days and then must report to his permanent duty station but we have no idea what we are going to do for housing. Any help would be appreciated. 'Thanks in advance :)

welcome Claudia. My best advice use it as practice. Its practice for deployments.
Katrina the housing wait list for Norfolk is ridiculously long in most cases. I would say start researching renting out on the town. Most ppl are told the wait list is between 2 and 18 months. I know a family that waited 16 months. I would look at ahrn.com and look into finding a realtor to help you. They will usually do it for free. Also, use realtor.com to look through the MLS listings, just make sure its the rentals! Chesapeake I have heard is nice. I live up in Hampton and love it but some ppl dont like dealing with the tunnel

Amber he can go into Navy Federal if he has your information I think and can ask them if they can help him out. He can go online and request to get an account linked from an outisde account to his. So he can go online and just transfer money like that I think but it can take awhile to get the letter in the mail so I would suggest he go in with the info for the bank he wants to transfer money to and get it done that way I think.

Hey ladies my name is Sam. I'm not a navy mom but a loving significant other. My SR is in Ship 12 Division 271 and is probably one of the older recruits LOL. This is the longest we've gone without contact since we met 2.5 years ago. I got my letter last Thursday. Waiting on another :) and crossing my fingers and toes on a phone call. I have no military in my family, where as his family is all ARMY, so I'm new too ALL of this :). I'm actually rooming with his for PIR for 2 nights and I've only met her once :X. Im excited to see him everyday.

Hey Sam! My boyfriends PIR is 8/31 as well! He is in ship 4 div 818 for Aviation Rescue Swimming. I haven't even received a letter yet :( Nobody is his division has been able to write because they are so busy. This is the longest my boyfriend and I haven't been in contact throughout the two years we have been together also, it sucks!

Hi Ladies :)
Im new to this site, my Sailor left on July 24th, just two days ago, and I already miss him like crazy. Got a lot of questions also...can anyone tell me how long after they leave do you usually get the address to write them? :(
Jul 26, 2012

Welcome! I got his address about a week and a half after he arrived.

Oh ok awesome, thanks. I've already started writing letters, which I promised I would do everyday, so I'm just excited to send them. I"m glad I found this site. Its comforting to be in the company of so many strong women going through the same thing I am. I look forward to making some friends on here and learning a lot.

Yeah, I write everyday too! :) Lol, it's still really hard. I'm still waiting on my first call, besides the "I'm here" call. I just hate waiting...

Yeah, Im scared that he's gonna call like when im working or something and then I miss the call :/ I really hope that doesn't happen. Im trying my best to stay positive and keep busy, but the next 8 weeks will probably seem like an eternity. It suck when you go from spending every single day with them to not even getting to hear their voice!

Just wanted to say hi to everyone - it's been a pretty crazy several weeks, been busy pcsing, but we're finally back in the States, got a place to live, bought a car, got phones, and internet again :-) Now, if only our household goods would arrive... Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that's going to happen before we have to get our daughter off to college, but hey, gotta love air mattresses... Anyway, just wanted to say hi :-)

Wow, I didn't realize you were transferring! Isn't it fun? Does the online scheduling make it any easier, or did that even apply in Misawa?
Jul 27, 2012
sailorwifenmom
Ugh - the online scheduling made it a mess to be honest. They had updated their systems so many times, our non temp storage wasn't in their system - they could see we had it, but it wasn't able to be accessed by their system. (not to mention that they wanted passwords that we had created over 3 yrs ago when we moved to Japan, and hadn't used or needed since we got all our stuff there... I can't figure out why their system was still the same enough that we needed the same passwords, but not the same enough they couldn't process our non temp storage stuff...)
Add to that, they somehow created an extra phantom shipment (of 6 thousand pounds, no less...) for us coming out of there, so they said that even though they could see that it was a mistake - no lathing number or anything - they couldn't authorize the release of the non temp storage until we settled our account, or had Japan remove it, since they were the ones who generated it, because we were now overweight (lol - no kidding - an extra 6 tons will do that...). Thankfully, it's straight now, and it's all on it's way to here, but it took the coordination of us, the people in MD, the people in WA, and the people in Japan to get it fixed...
LOL - got to love the new, more helpful, user friendly computer systems... I have to admit, as much as I love computers, there are times I really miss the "just walk in and hand some Petty Officer at the desk your orders, fill out some forms in triplicate, and you were good to go" method ;-)
Overall, it's good though - we're now in MD, getting ready to get our daughter off to OK for college, and our son is now in VA (for a few months at least), so we can see him sometimes, so it's all good :-)
Jul 27, 2012
sailorwifenmom
Oh, and they certainly have the new system there, in fact, when you walk in their office to set it up, they literally just point you to a computer set up in their waiting room, they won't even talk to you until you've gone through their program, either in the office or at home.
Jul 27, 2012
Anti M
Ah, technology. Yes, it was easier when you had to do it in person... unless you were the spouse in the middle of nowhere trying to figure out the process.
Ice that you'll be able to see your son.
Jul 27, 2012
sailorwifenmom
lol - that's true - there are upsides and downsides to all of it. I'm just glad that we were able to get it all sorted out. I was in a bit of a panic when they were saying that we were over our weight allowance by 6,000 lbs and that it's aprox $2 for every pound you're over... Especially when the one lady (not the person who said they could see it wasn't a real shipment) kept insisting that we HAD to have 3 shipments coming, because that's what her computer told her, and she wasn't releasing our stuff until we had proof that we had paid to ship that weight. LOL - at one point, I told my husband "fine, if it comes down to it, we'll pay them the 12 grand, then they can pay US for losing that much of our "stuff" when they can't deliver it" :-)
Seriously though, it could have been a lot worse / harder to fix than it was, and since we've had a crazy number of moves (even by military standards - our 18 yr old figured out she's lived in 15 houses now...) I guess we were due to have a bit of a glitch.
Jul 27, 2012
meagan5220
Ah I hate dealing with online moves! lol Its sooo annoying!! My computer is way too advanced for the system is what I was told pretty much lol! We ended up having to go in anyways because his orders were messed up and they had re-issued them but the date that the orders said they were generated were like 2 months after his report date. The computer kept kicking it back because its impossible to have gotten the orders after he was supposed to have been there. lol!! :)
I hope your daughter enjoys OK. :) My husband and I get to go back to Oklahoma to visit family for his post deployment leave soon!!! I am soo excited! I was wondering where you were hadnt seen you on here for awhile! lol I hope you settle in smoothly!
Jul 27, 2012
sailorwifenmom
LOL about the moving after the report date - you would think that would be the logic that the new system wanted ;-) She's excited about going, but a little nervous, too - it's a big change (not that any of us can relate to big changes, at all, lol). I hope you all have a great post deployment leave - and a great homecoming! :-)

lol! yea the HHG guy kept trying to figure out why it was kicking it back and then he looked at it and was like ohhhh..and he said umm how did you know you had to be up here in May if you didnt get your orders until August? We are with the Lincoln so it was because they gave us the wrong orders to WA instead of VA and rather than give us a Change of Homeport Certificate they reissued his orders with VA. It made sense when he finally pointed that out to us lol!
Thats great! I loveee Oklahoma! I miss it so much! It can get a little slow but its such a great feel! She will have to try and get down to see a Thunder game and get downtown! The atmosphere is unbelievable! Thank you ma'am!! I certainly will! We are so excited! If she needs any help with anything down there feel free to shoot me a message :) I lived their my whole life pretty much!
Le Shelby- well if he doesnt already he will hopefully get orders soon. If not I think they have to wait until they get orders. Once they get orders they usually have time to go home before they have to report. I have known people that didnt get that time. If you guys are married he will need to see about setting up a move for your first duty station. and getting in touch with a sponsor and the ombudsmans at his next command would be helpful.

Ashley, they are told not to marry PIR weekend, although some do. You both must be aware that he is breaking the rules if he marries that weekend. He probably won't get in trouble, but be aware there is a slight chance of repercussions.
Is he going to A school in Great Lakes? If so you can get it done if you hustle on Friday and Saturday.
http://countyclerk.lakecountyil.gov/VitalRecords/Pages/Marriage-Lic...
If he is going to A school anywhere else, he is probably departing early Saturday morning and it is impossible to get done. You'll have to wait until he gets to his A school and gets to phase two liberty.
Best of luck!

When they first check into any training command, not just Great Lakes, they are limited what they can do on their time off (normal time off, like evenings and weekends). Phase one, they must be in uniform or Navy issued PT gear all the time. They earn phase two in a couple weeks, then they can wear civilian clothes. Phase three, they can stay out overnight on weekends (but not Sunday). There is more to it, but that's the basics. Oh, and they can't travel more than 300 miles away from Great Lakes on long weekends.

My husband is in GL and currently in ET A school. It took him about 2 weeks to get phase 2. And he was on a strict ship! So I guess it really just varies.

Hmmm, wonder if someone could get their hands on a blank copy of what they sign and post it for informational purposes? It can hardly be classified.
Since he already has dependent children, is it possible to push through a special request chit at light speed? Although on a Friday afternoon, it may be impossible.

I know, doubtful. But now and then, when they ask for good reason, it can happen. But yeah, it is unlikely.
So if they are going to be held accountable, we'll need a first hand horror story to back it up that they're being punished. I take it that hasn't happened/been made public/been posted here just yet? And the "we did it and no one said a thing" days are going to be over?
I'm more worried for the kids of this sailor than anything. Although they should have benefits anyway. I also worry about the preggers GFs who need immediate coverage.
