Have fun Anti M!! I am off to change a tire that got a nail in it a week after we bought it! thank god for that extra protection plan!

Ryan of course feel free to join! a lot of fb pages I am a part of def have some husbands and bfs on the page! For more specific info that will help you the best thing will be to give as much info as possibly about your situation :)

  • sailorwifenmom

    Anti M - Hope you're having fun :-)

Ryan - the way I see it, when I was in the Navy, I was just as much a Sailor as the men were, and I'm sure that your Sailor is, too :-).  And, along those same lines, you will be just as much a Navy spouse as I am now.  Just like she needs to stick together with the other Sailors (male and female) at whatever command she ends up at, so that they can do what needs to be done, Navy spouses (male and female) need to stick together, too!

  • Le Shelby

Hope everyones sailors down south are out of harms way as Isaac gets closer. Prayers for all!
  • JLH

My fiance just left for basic a week ago, and the fate of my day isn't really hinging on the answer anymore, but when can I expect to get my first letter?

  • navywife0514 (ship 09 div 327)

Yay! Yesterday I got my first letter from my husband. When should I expect my first call now? I can't wait to hear his beautiful voice once again. :-)
  • gabby ship14 Div334

Today I receive my sweethearts first two letters it was a wonderful feeling. So does this mean I will be receiving his letters every thurs? When should I expect his first call?
  • Komisch1

Hello Ellen, Navywife and g, I hope I can answer your questions. Your SR will be sending you the form letter soon, in the first couple of weeks. I got his first letters about 3 weeks after he was gone. They are usually allowed to write on Sundays only, meaning letters come on Thursdays. If they are good, they may be given more time to write, and as a treat, even make a call! Always have your phone handy. They don't get a lot of time to make it up to the building to call, and there are limited phones available. My guy called about a month of being in, then made the "Sailor" call. As they progressed through training, he was able to write on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Write  SR often, they do see how much mail comes for each other. Even if it is just a page, let your SR know you are thinking about them. Hope that helps.

  • Ellen

Thank you, Komisch1, that does help!

  • JNJNavyGF

Hi everyone, Just joined the group/site! I have been dating my sailor for 2 years now and we just got married on the 31st in Pensacola Florida. We were able to spend the weekend together and it was so nice :) but now I have to go home to Nebraska and he has to stay here (hes in A School till the end of November) and I'm having a bit of a rough time with it. Any word of wisdom would be much appreciated!

  • Anti M

Hey, I'm back. A little sunburned, very tired, and now I have to clean the dust out of everything we took to the desert.  And after my housesitter, which irritates me to no end.

I'm trying to figure out when to have this wedding. All my family is in lousiana and my grandfather is going to marry us. I was hoping to have it in pensacola cause that is where he will be in school. Will he be able to do whatever on the weekends or does he have to be back on base at a certain time. We have no decorations or anything just me him and mine and his family, and this has been so difficult to plan for my family to travel out here I live in alabama.

Sorry about the cut n paste job on that number....

  • taracottagreen

Can't sleep hubbys a week in already tomorrow so it seems to be going by fast.I have to remind myself to eat...no appetite and can't sleep does it get easier the further in ya go?

  • ProudLadyOfA1337Guy

Taracottagreen, though it doesn't seem like it the time will start to fly. My fiance (just proposed this weekend on my visit!) is in BESS now, graduated boot about 3 weeks ago actually and I just remember my first week or two being like you describe; little sleep, not eating enough. It definitely got better though. The best things that helped me (and him in turn even) was to keep busy and write often. I wrote every day, even if I couldn't send the letter that day. Even if you don't have the address yet, write and just send it when you get the address. I kept very busy as well with a new job, staying with my sister and helping with the kids, working out etc. Before you know it you'll be waiting in a hotel the night before graduation going "just a few more hours!!!". But honestly it will get better as you find ways to keep busy and tell him all about what's going on and how much you love and support him (they live for letters in basic). Once the first letter gets to you you'll be able to really see that it all gets easier as time passes as well. Also, it gets easier as you join up with others in your situation or past it even to have a support group for yourself as well. I found many groups between N4M and FB and everyone in these groups are so supportive of each other. As my mom always tells me "this too shall pass" and in this situation I am glad to say she was very right, it'll get easier. And if you ever need an ear, feel free to friend or message me =) (sorry so long winded lol)

  • luvmycorpsman

Hello, hello!  I just joined navyformoms recently, and this is my first wall comment.  Haha.  I've known about this site for a while, well, actually since Feb, but I didn't really care to join until recently.  My fiance is finishing up A School in San Antonio to be a corpsman.  Soon, he'll be going to C School for Surg Tech.  We're getting married in April!  Woot!

  • Byron's wifey (ship 12 div 348)

Hello everyone :)! I am new to the site and I love the support everyone gives each other!! Does anyone have loved ones on ship12 div348??? My sweet husband is in that division and I haven't heard anything from him yet :(
  • Proud Girlfriend

Hey everyone! My boyfriend graduates sept. 28th! We're talking about getting engaged and were both 19! :)
  • KylaA21112

My husband is in Ship 14 Division 334. PIR 10/12/12. Anyone else? I have received several letters, but no call :( We have a 2 year old son that REALLY misses his daddy, and I am 6 months pregnant with our daughter. Any advice from anyone or anyone have the same PIR.

  • luvmycorpsman

KylaA, it honestly depends on their RDCs, and whether or not their sh/div earns the right to phone calls.  Keep your head up.  My SN only got to call home a total of 4 times:  The first one to let family know they've arrived, the 2nd was sometime halfway through, another was 2/3 way through, and then his final was after battle stations, his "I'm a sailor," call.  Some divisions get more calls than others, but again, it depends on the RDCs.  Always keep writing, no matter what!

  • mrs.jane.rad

Hello all! My Husband has started bootcamp today. After doing a lot of feeling sorry for myself this morning and drinking 3 pots of st. Johns wort tea to try and cheer up I decided this would be a great opportunity to do my own fitness challenge. Has anyone else tried this or would anyone like to buddy up?

  • autibug

Hey Mrs.jane.rad I actually started a fitness boot camp at a local gym about 2 weeks after my SR left. It gave me something to do for myself and has helped with the depression I was in the first two weeks he was gone. I have some weight to lose and I haven't told him that I am doing this at all so I am excited to see the look on his face when he sees how much I have lost and toned up. I'll buddy up with you if you would like

  • taracottagreen

I am doing a fitness challenge since we moved here a month ago I've lost seventeen pounds!!Five lbs since he left.I can't afford a gyms so I went on pinterest and printed a five day workout plan. And I have been eating really healthy.I should open a group for us ladies losing weight while SR are in BC.

  • autibug

I love the idea of a group for us ladies losing while our SR's are in BC. It would be great to have encouragement and to know we are all going through the same things.

  • Jenn_NicksWifey

Definitely do some workout stuff while they are gone! I lost 17lbs while he was at bootcamp and he was so surprised. It felt so good for him to be proud of me while i was so proud of him, too. Plus, it gave me something to focus on and the endorphine boost from working out helped my mood, too. I don't mind so much when he picks me up anymore, either.
  • taracottagreen

I started one a few hours ago.:)friend me and I'll send invites!
  • trentsbaby

My fiancee is ship 14 div 344 his PIR is oct 19th he has been gon for 2 1/2 weeks I have received no letters and no call. I've working out and all trying to get rid of my mid section and get into shape but i have lost no inches off my mid section. I'm starting to wonder why I havn't received any mail. I can't wait till PIR i'ts 9 days after my birthday.

  • autibug

Trensbaby. My fiancee is on the same ship and div. I talked to him yesterday and they have written as of Sept 5th so the letter should be there anyday depending on where you live in the country. I haven't gotten my letter from him yet either. I"m sure it is coming though. I know how hard it is to wait for it though.

  • ProudLadyOfA1337Guy

I think the workout group is a great idea. Can we join if we aren't in BC phase? My fiance (yay proposed this weekend when I went to visit!) is in BESS now and during BC I worked out, lost a lot actually and many inches woot he was very proud! But I'm still looking to do even more before I see him again in 2.5 months (and also to fit into that white dress). What a great idea to band together on getting healthier while they are away though, it really did help keep my spirits up during BC.

  • heathee12

I love all the positiveness and encouragement about working out and being healthy and in shape. can someone start a group? i trained for a marathon while my SA was in boot camp and ran it while he was at A school. it was one of the best things that I did - it kept me focused and happy. I am training for another one now. he is stationed in WA and I am
in NY. I go visit again in less than 3 wks - woohoo!!! it is really important to have a support system and personal goals.
  • Anti M

I use sparkpeople.com to track my food and exercise... well, I did but there's a long old lady health issue story you don't need.    But tracking your workout minutes, water intake (very important) and nutrition is a terrific way to lose... I even lose using it.   They also have blogs and journals and hey, you can form groups!  Just a thought.

  • Kyla-PIR Oct 5, Ship 11, DIV 320

Just got a dog...hope my sailor likes chihuahuas!

  • taracottagreen

okay ladies I started a group called slim down while your sailor is away.Send me  a friend request and I  will send a invite still working out how to to that.

  • Lauren.Nicole

Can someone help me out a little on all the Navy terminology? My boyfriend is leaving for bootcamp soon and I'm not really sure what to expect. I know he will be gone for two months but I am still a little unsure of how I am going to be able to write to him. Also, what happens when he gets back from bootcamp? Do they stay home for a little bit? Get shipped out right away? I am brand new to all of this and when he tries to explain it to me I get confused. Thank you

  • Anti M

They do go directly to their A schools (Great Lakes or fly out) with one exception:  The PIR during the Christmas stand down.  They get to go home on leave. Puts them in the hole as they haven't earned their leave days yet.

Normally, most sailors get to come home for ten days/two weeks after A school.  Some get leave after C school instead.

    For the new folks:

liberty = normal time off such as weekends, federal holidays and evenings.  No, they can't fly home on long weekends, all schools and commands have liberty milage limits.  Great Lakes is 300 miles, PIR weekend is 50 miles.

leave= earned time off.   They earn 2.5 days each month for 30 days a year.  Must be requested in writing, can be cancelled last minute.  Usually cannot take leave during school, except for the holiday stand down.  Once in the fleet, getting the full 30 days in one block is next to impossible, no leave during deployment of ships, and the new guy never gets the good dates.  Don't expect them to take leave shortly after reporting to their first command.

  • Navymomfriend

To Anti M's comment regarding Leave being cancelled at the last minute - so very true.  We know a sailor who has requested leave beginning way back in May and it has been cancelled or pushed back ever since then.  Was supposed to have leave around Labor Day, and still doesn't know when it will actually happen.  However, with deployment supposedly in the next few months (or sooner), doubting whether leave will actually happen now.

  • Navymomfriend

Side note to my last comment - not to put a damper on anyone's wishes to see their sailor - but having family in Air Force and friends in Army and Marines, I have found that the Navy tends to cancel leave at the last minute more than the others.  Not sure why or if it is just by ship and the CO, but knowing several in the Navy, each one of them has had leave canceled at least twice, and now this one five times and counting.

  • Kelli (9/173)

Is there a site or something were new navy spouses can find the terminology? Just wondering bc my husband leaves in march for boot camp
  • taracottagreen

So I got his form letters PIR date is Nov.12 that is 57 days from now.And 9 weeks from now he has already been there 10 days that is 10 weeks is that about right they said 8 weeks??

  • sailorwifenmom

This site doesn't have all the Navy terminology, but it does have a lot of info, and it will really help, plus it has a lot of links that will help with acronyms and so on.

    http://cnic.navy.mil/CNIC_HQ_Site/Search/CNICP_A145268

  • sailorwifenmom

Also another good site for spouses - "new" or "old" -

    http://www.militaryonesource.mil/MOS/f?p=MOS:HOME:0::::

  • sailorwifenmom

A final site for you - this one is to Naval Services Familyline.  They publish a lot of booklets / pamphlet sort of things that you can download (or you can also usually get them from your Fleet and Family Service Center, and I know that they hand copies out when you take COMPASS).

One of the publications is called Sealegs:  A Handbook For All Navy Spouses.  it covers all sorts of stuff about the Navy, including terminology and so on.

    http://nsfamilyline.org/publications.html

  • sailorwifenmom

UGH - I don't know why those links don't work.  If you do a search for Naval Services Family Line, then click on their publications, will take you to the last link I shared, if you do a search for Military One Source it will take you to the middle link, and if you do a search for CNIC Fleet and Family Support Center, you should be able to find the first link.

Sorry, I don't know why they didn't work...
