Anndrya, maybe our men have the same grad date lol - that would be nice. Since they left the same day and we're both patiently waiting for these letters! Once you get it lemme know! I can't wait to get home today to check the mail. It better be there! I want to get these letters out tomorrow that I wrote him!

  • Anndrya (Ship-13 div-366)

Juliette, yes that would be nice!! I hope it comes today! Seriously! Ima go crazy lol! I even called his recruiter because some people get it from them but he just said he couldn't get it :( prob a lie but oh well just got to wait =\
  • Juliette

I actually JUST emailed his recruiter a few mins ago. I just asked him if he'd at least have the address. The waiting game is so annoying! It's like by the time u start sending out letters or getting any from them, bootcamp is half way through! Oh well - i hope you get yours today, as I hope mine comes toooo!

  • CHN-B

My experience has been: I usually get his letters on Thursdays. His holiday routine was Sundays (when they r given time to write), mail processed Monday, I'm in CA so it arrives Thursdays. I noticed some who live closer to GL, Wisconsin got their mail on Wednesdays. & others who lived further got theirs Fri or Sat.
But then around week 4 I believe they were given Tuesday to write. They said it was mandatory letter writing time. My bf thought that was funny to dedicate "mandatory" time for something he couldn't wait to do.
  • Juliette

well the thing that saddens me....is, if im correct, they start reading their letters the monday after their second sunday there....and well - that's his upcoming monday - i don't have his address yet, i have SO many letters to send him, and he will be empty handed on mail call that day...and i feel bad because he'll probably think i never wrote....it just makes me sad....

  • CHN-B

Don't worry Juliette. No one there starts to get mail until the 3rd week. 1st week is "processing days" (they r in tempoarary holding & people start to get assigned barracks or "ships/divs"). Then they move into their assigned barracks. Form letter goes out start of 2nd week (cant go out sooner cuz they dont even know their address until they're processed & assigned). I got my form letter on a Friday at end of my 2nd week, I believe, at 3pm (that's when my mailman makes it to my mailbox). Last mail sent out for the day at my local post office was 5pm. So I sent my very 1st stack out Fri by 4 pm. My bf said the 1st mail pass out day for his div was Wednesday in the 3rd week.
  • Juliette

Ok well that's good news. All i can hope for is that the form letter comes to me before this week is up. That way I can get my letters out to him. When did your bf go through bootcamp? Was this recently? I assume he is finished it now?

  • CHN-B

He flew out 7/18. His PIR was 9/14. The longest 2 months of my life! Now it starts all over w A school (at least now we can communicate - but still not the same as being together). He'll be there for 14 wks. Then C school for another 8 wks. So he'll be home in Mar next year. Ugh!!
  • Juliette

Oh so yours just graduated. Did you go to his PIR? Mine should be done sometime in mid November I believe. He left 9/11. Is yours active or reserves? Mine is reserves. After BC he goes to A school in FL for 4 months. So I'm guess he won't be back home till February/March. Same as you....very long. It sucks.

  • CHN-B

Yes I went to his PIR - it was emotional & just an amazing experience. So glad I was able to spend a day & a half w him. He's reserve but we can not count on them not being deployed (u know we can't discuss certain things, especially online). (There's a lot going on in the world right now). :(
mine became a sailor 9/11. =) yeah, so mine will be gone a total of 7.5 mo. :(
  • Juliette

I look forward to PIR. I just need a break in this no contact. It's god awful. Where is your bf going to A school at? Also, what's his rate and job? 7.5 months is def a long time - mine had an estimated 6 months of being away, including bootcamp, but as I see it changes all the time with the navy....so it could be longer...who knows at this point :(

  • CHN-B

Yeah, that was the worst time for me. I had to force myself to get out & get busy so I wouldn't go insane or spiral into a deep depression. I've learned so much not only about my bf & our relationship but also about myself..that I am strong. But I still have bad days when I miss him terribly. Sometimes I just need to dig deeper to find the strength than other days.
He's in TX, E3, studying for corpsman. They have a huge medical training facility out there. Then he's going to the Marines for C school since he's FMTB Corpsman.
This whole thing has been an accelerated learning curve for me. There's so much to absorb & u have to keep learning at each phase. And when u think u know something they go & change it up on u. It's been an emotional roller coaster & at times very stressful. I'm learning to just go with it. The only thing I know that is certain in all this is our love for each other. And we'll just ride this crazy ride together.
  • Juliette

Well that's encouragement. I'm on my second week of boot camp and I seem to be doing better than I was the first week. The first 2 days were my worst. I've told alot of people - as creepy as it sounds, him being away and us having no communication almost feels like a death to me. I can't help relate it to anything else at the moment as morbid as it seems. I mean...we can't talk - no phone calls, texts, emails....not even a letter yet. Then I come home to our place...and all his stuff is there...sitting right where it was when he left. It's just an odd feeling that I cant pass yet. I work all week so I keep myself busy and distracted but I can't say this is easy. I have my good and bad moments. How long have u been with your bf? I've been with mine for 2 years now. He will be gone for his birthday...thanksgiving, christmas, and new years. That really makes me sad. I'm very new to the lifestyle as well - so this is a learning experience. I'm hoping as everyone has said all along that it only makes your relationship a better one....I fear that time apart will pull us apart....I can't help but worry sometimes.

  • Jesse's Girl

Juliette, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like their SO is dead. Yes it's morbid and of course realistically it is so far from the truth but that's how it FEELS!!! I'm on day 15, still waiting on the form letter. This is straight up killing me to have to wait this long. Although, I might add, this is a killer diet. (trying to look on the bright side, if there is one, which I doubt.)
  • Juliette

Day 15 and you still haven't gotten the letter??? Oh my gosh...now you're depressing me. I can't imagine waiting another week for this form letter!

  • Bree135

Hi Everyone :) My Name is Brianna and I'm from Michigan. Im a senior in high school. Roger, my boyfriend of a couple years now, left for bootcamp on September 5th. I miss him, but I have been doing suprisingly good. Im proud of myself for how Ive been handling the whole situation. He is ship 09 Div.355, his PIR is 9/5. Im just here to say hello and chat with people who I can relate to.

  • Anti M

Wilson sucks for posting that on here.

  • ZeeKittiKat Ship2Div950

i agree with you anti m!!!

  • ashley1026

My husband just got his orders for c school. He will be staying in San Antonio where he is currently finishing A school. C school will be a little over a year and I am planning on moving there. I was wondering where do I even start looking for a place for us to live? Just looking for some advice. Thanks!
  • CHN-B

Juliette/Jesse's girl: yeah I know what u mean. I felt the same but I try not to say it cuz I don't want to think of him that way but its exactly what it is - to love someone & have them 'taken' from u w no communication, just completely cut off just like that. But that feeling disappears once u get communication again. Tomorrow is Fri- hope ur form letters come soon!

Juliette: I've been w mine for 2 yrs as well. Have never had a connection like this w anyone. But this whole process has brought us even closer & made our relationship even stronger. Yeah, I sometimes worry about what happens when he's away (but only for a split second). Only because I have a friend (we go back to 2nd grade) whose been in the Navy for 15 yrs now & have told me stories of infidelity etc. But he says that's not everyone. I certainly hope not. Having gone through all this emotional stuff & coming on this forum & hearing how devoted & supportive all these signicant others r, it would be pretty crappy for someone to betray that love. Maybe a small part of me has this fear cuz I've been in past relationships where the other person cheated. It's painful. But I have all the trust & faith in my bf. I've learned that at some point, you have to give people chances & trust again. He hasn't failed me yet but have shown me what a strong love can be. Not sure how I got on that topic.
But know the 'mourning' feelings will pass once u guys can write to each other.
I think aside from getting everyone in & busy with processing & medical, dental etc, I think this period of no communication with the outside world is also part of their training process. They want the recruits to learn to depend on each other there. Going through something so emotionally tasking together tends to cause u to bond with others going through the same process. Just like we r all doing out here. It is the human instinct in order to survive. They will be isolated for months on ships etc so they need to be able to trust & create teamwork amongst their group. Ur bf will tell u more stories of things they do to create trust amongst each other.
I know it's hard but soon it will get better.
  • Juliette

I have to agree with you there. Trust is key with this process. As the same with me, my fiance is the first guy I've ever been with that I've had a real true, genuine connection with - and since the day we met up until now...he's never done me wrong and has always been loyal to me. Not once have I ever not had trust in him. I think it's just natural for all of us to worry sometimes - besides it's just a woman's instinct to assume the worst at times. It's horrible! I've been writing alot of letters - and some are very sappy, lovey dovey. I guess I'm getting a chance to tell him some of the things I've never said...or never said enough really. You take for granted that person being there every single day....and now that he's gone I wish I did certain things differently. It's weird. Especially since I know he's coming back. I guess it's just normal to feel regrets because you miss them so much. I've been okay. Like everyone I have my moments. My moments mostly come when I'm alone. I'm dreading the rest of this year, which actually is sucky....because this is the time of year that I love. The fall weather, the holidays...thanksgiving...his birthday, and christmas/new years. Now I have to learn how to spend those times without him - and to think last Christmas was our very first Christmas together while under the same roof. Now I have to wake up alone on that day....

I just really hope his form letter comes. I want to communicate with him and just let him know that I'm here...I'm fine...and I'm waiting for him. As I planned to do from the start. Next week is my third week - which actually went pretty quickly. So I'm hoping maybe I'll get that unexpected phone call...or finally a letter from him. Time will tell....I'm just so anxious with waiting!!

  • ms.bre_5

Ashley1026- hi my boyfriend got his orders for c-school in california and was suppose to stay there for 2 years before deployment, and he had only been there for about a month and a half and they sent him overseas.... I think its best if you wait and see how things go in c-school for the first month, i guess it would depend on what his job descriptions implies as well. i hope this helped a little

  • Jenn_NicksWifey

Ms. bre- that's a really good point. My husband is in A School and some of the guys he was in bootcamp with got pulled out of A School to deploy and finish the training on the job.
  • Kyla-PIR Oct 5, Ship 11, DIV 320

Sorry i've been reading your comments and came up on being deployed while in A school? Do anyone of you know how common that is? Trying to plan a wedding and now i have another worry / stress. haha.

  • ms.bre_5

The thing is that being in the navy you really never know! i have basically taught myself not to get my hopes on anything to be honest because it never ends up that way.... Orders are always change and its something that you have to get use to being in the military. I knew what i was getting myself into and this journey hasnt been easy but in know that in the end it is going to be worth it for me and him. It gets harder through this journey and he has only been in the navy for 7 months and has already gone throught bootcamp, A-school in florida, C-school in California and now DEPLOYMENT.  We plan on getting married right after he gets back but we wont start planning until we are settled in..

Kyla-  it depends on what squadrion he is in, I am not sure about A-school because they are just in training but as soon as they are in c-school it more sure they will be sent out. C- school is hands on, my bf  is AO Aviation Ordiance and he has already worked on planes at C-school, A-school is just studying.

  • Anti M

nickswifey... what?   I have NEVER heard of someone being sent to the fleet before finishing A school, unless they flunk out.   It is true some sailors go to their command before a C school, but never A school.  Some rates do have OJT, but not very many.  I'm dying to know, what rate?  I would like to research this.  Thanks.

  • Jenn_NicksWifey

Anti M - I will ask him tonight.  I think it would have been an engineering rate because my husband is going to be an EN and most of his ship seems to be engineering rates.  He said a ship deployed 4 months early and they pulled some guys out of school and sent them to that ship.  I had the same question - What about what they are learning??  Isn't that sort of necessary?  He said he supposed they would get on the job training.  I'll see what I can find out about it.

  • Anti M

Wow, unprecedented ... at least to me.  We need to ask Angie, she was an EN.   She'd know if this was something new.  The ship would need to be very short-handed. Maybe a unique situation?  All were snipes?  MMs (machinist mates) can do their job learning by OJT.  Sorry, I'm very curious, I was a twidget, not a snipe.

I know there are rates it simply wouldn't work with, the AECF and nukes for sure, and the corpsmen.  Some of the aviation rates too.

  • Anti M

Just a note for those who don't know yet, the Navy communities all have nicknames for each other, a very old tradition.  They sound insulting to untrained ears, but they're more like pet names.   I can call my nephew a "glow in the dark bubblehead" and he'd just grin and give me a thumbs up.  Like a friendly rivalry between colleges is the closest I can describe it.  A great source of pride for the old hands, although some sailors get uptight about it.  There are always those who get high-strung about something.  (My uptight areas are OPSEC and EO).

Snipes are the below decks rates, twidgets are the techies, nukes glow in the dark, bubbleheads are on subs, and there are many more.  There are a few which aren't to  be used, because they are insults.  Easy to figure out when you hear them though.

  • Anndrya (Ship-13 div-366)

Day 10 let's hope I get the form today :)
  • Juliette

Same here! I better get that letter!!!
  • taracottagreen

Just realized I've made it a month without seening him moren than the 2 day weekend we had together. So I only have to make it a little over a month without seeing him at all.lol.I may be able to do this.lol.

  • Emily-aaronsgirl11

Nickey's wife- You may be talking about my husband's ship. It's extremely public knowledge that they were deployed 4 months early to cover for another ship's problems in the yards. I know we did pull several sailors off of the Reagan that sat next to them (for the entire 3 months they were in port collectively) for this deployment. I've never heard of anyone on the ship that was pulled out of A school though. I know we needed personnel pretty bad, but people who haven't completed their schooling wouldn't be of much use.

  • Juliette

I FINALLY got my form letter from my lovey. I'm so very happy right now. Just to see his cute little perfect handwriting on the envelope makes me miss him more. But I feel so much more happier just knowing he's out there...and ok. Where can I find a link to the groups for which division he's in on here? Any clue?

Lol - and the CT "spook" types (spook as in a ghost - they see you you don't see them, nobody quite knows what they do) say "In God we trust - all others we monitor!" ;-)
  • CHN-B

They have regular holiday routine this Sunday frm 7-1 (thats tomorrow) so they should be able to write. They also iron their sheets, fold their clothes, shine their shoes, make their bed, & go to service if they choose. [Again, depending on where u live, u should get his letter btwn Wed&Sat following that Sun. This was my regular mail routine unless he was able to write me a letter on Tues & Thurs.]
