    good morning all!!

i pray everyone has a glorious day!!

    b'snukemom----enjoy!!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi everyone - spoke with my son tonight - his start date for Power school was moved from early May to he thinks June 24th....this will put graduation right before Christmas.......he thinks he will still get to come home for some time at Christmas though so that is good!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

  • Sunshine66

Can't believe it's already time for your son's A school grad!!! Hope you have a great trip. That doesn't sound like to bad of a T-track hold time compared to some that I've read about before. Hopefully he'll be done and home in time for Christmas! Lets just hope it doesn't get moved back again!!!
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Sunshine66 - I know - I can't believe how fast the time has gone by!  I'm sure it has seemed much longer for my son, but for me it has really flown by.  So looking forward to seeing him next week :)

Just ordered some 3M Ultrathon bug spray and lotion for him - I hear the bugs are crazy there in the summer.....glad I won't be there in the summer LOL

  • Sunshine66

Hopefully bugs won't be big deal for mine...they're pretty bad here too! Can't wait to hear about your trip! What are your travel plans?? How long will you be there?
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi Sunshine - we will get to spend 4 full days with our son.....he's got lots planned for us to do - he mentioned that we will go to Patriot's Point with one of his buddies and his family.  Looking forward to meeting some of his friends that I have only heard about so far - and their families too!  Hopefully they are N4M members :)  His GF is coming along too but not our college son - he has finals next week :(

  • Sunshine66

That sounds awesome and I'm so happy for your family.  How much leave do they get after A graduation?  Think mine is planning on coming home if he has enough time.  If not, I'll go there!!!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

I think they can get about 10 days - I know mine is heading to Florida for a little R&R after we fly home. I think there are 4 of them that are going....should be fun for them.

  • Sunshine66

That's what I was thinking. I feel like he will come home so he can see his girlfriend! Beach trip sounds like a great idea for a break from school.
  • BPATT'sMom205

Hi all... my son will be going to NUKE school following PIR (we think is 05/31)... what is the timing before they leave for GC? How much time did you get with your Sailor following PIR?

  • thelostairman

Generally they leave the next day. So you get the day of PIR and then you can meet them at the airport in the morning.

  • Sunshine66

Mine left at 5am from O'Hare on Sat.

  • BPATT'sMom205

Thanks---I will keep that in mind... he has told us the main thing he will want to do is go see Star Trek with us! So we will wait to see it with him. As long as we can spend time together we don't care about sight-seeing if he leaves the next day--if he doesn't, then we might get a bonus day with our son! :-)

  • ProudNavyDad

BPATT's Mom - the earlier descriptions of the time available with your PIR grad who's going off to Nuke school in Charleston are accurate for MOST of the Nuke grads.  Some of them get place on a medical hold however (as our son did) so they stay at Great Lakes for some period of time from a few more days to (our son) 7 weeks before they get cleared.  We had family in the Chicago area so we had booked our hotel and flight to go out on Sunday evening.  Since our son was on medical hold at the Temp Holding Unit, we got to spend most of Friday afternoon, all day Satruday and Sunday Morning with our grad before we had to leave.  So...if you can afford it you might want to plan to stay an extra night or two just in case;  if he gets sent out on time, then you can spend a day sight seeing in Chicago.  Which will be nicer in May than it was during the snow storm at the beginning of February for our son's PIR.

  • Not so Blue

Feeling very glum. Is it posdible to gave heard more from my son in bootcamp than in A school? Answer is yes.

    PiR 2/1

  • Penny_Nuke_MM2_NimitzNuke

Not so blue - it is almost guaranteed to hear less from them in A-school than bootcamp and even less once they get to Power School and next to non-existant once they get to rotating shifts of Prototype !!!  Sorry for this bad news but that is why you need to be here making friends to keep you from going insane.

  • Not so Blue

Too late Penny, insanity already kicked in.

I find it frustrating bc I know hes struggling too. But ive definitely stepped back a long time ago. Just feeling a bit low.

  • Not so Blue

    Happy-hes on the phone!

  • tina41

  • Not so Blue

Hi everyone!  Question, my son is on convalescent leave for mono. What does this mean exactly and can he fly home? Hes no longer feeling sick, but....

    Thanks...

  • Navy2011Mom

B'sNukeMom...   Congratulations!!  I remember how nervous you were at the July Inland Empire mom's lunch.  Looks like things are going well for your son!!!   Great news and I hope his graduation was all you hoped for.

My younger son had PIR last Friday and is now at Nuke school waiting to start classes.  Congrats again!!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Thanks navy2011mom! Yes everything is going well. We had a great time at A school grad today and then had a nice dinner with our sailor and his buddies. Going to Patriots Point tomorrow.

Congrats to your son too! Wow - both your boys in the Navy!

  • melindy

    Good Morning All.
My daughter arrived in GC Saturday night
    She is an EM
  • Sunshine66

Glad to hear she finally made it to GC!!!

  • BPATT'sMom205

Hi navykovalciks! My son will be graduating May 31st and is headed to Nuke School.

melindy-when did your daughter fly out of Chicago to GC? I'm wondering how much time we will get with our son on Saturday at the airport. I know this changes---but just curious.

  • melindy

    BPATT's Mom205.. I private messaged you

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Happy Monday All!  Well sailor son is back in Charleston after having leave after A school grad (4/19) - we had a wonderful visit with him there and then he and a few other sailors went to Florida for some R&R.  From what he said (and pics he sent) they had a great time!  So happy he's met some really great people :) Now just waiting for PS to start - he thinks it will be 6/24.

Yesterday we moved our college son back home for the summer - just when we were starting to get used to the whole "emptynest" thing! LOL

Even got to meet a couple of N4mom's while in Charleston - Pietschie and Mommamac :)

  • Navy2011Mom

Tina41...   Yes, PIR was amazing, but it just didn't seem like we were able to spend enough time with our son.  His flight was 6am on Saturday, so the time really seemed to go too quickly.  With him having a phone now, we do talk with him often, but it isn't the same as having him with you physically, of course.  We do have our other son stationed in Coronado (about 1½ hours drive from home) so we get to see one of our boys often at least.

I believe they are starting classes today, so hopefully everything goes smoothly for them from here on out.

  • tina41

    hello all!!

navy2011mom--I understand what you mean about not having enough time.   since my son joined the navy, I am grateful for any time or communication I can get!!   i have two other sons at home.  one will be graduating this may and is talking about joining the air force.   the other has a little ways to go before he has to make any decisions.    good luck to your son and you!!!

  • NukeMom (Class 1318A - GC)

In Charleston for the week - attending A school graduation on 5/4 - would love to hook up with any N4M!  oh and if you are headed to Charleston- bring an umbrella!

  • NF Mom

One year ago they had a surplus of married housing and were letting single guys rent it.  I am sure one of the wives on one of these disscussion groups could provide you with their recent experiences:

  • MomThatLovesHerSon

Hi everyone, I am so happy!  My Nuke son is at boot camp.  I got a call from my son this afternoon at work!  His PIR is 5/31/13.  He sounded good even though he had a cold.  He said, "I'm doing good", which made me feel good and relieved!  He had his wisdom taken out about a week ago and seems to have done fine with it.  He is in a Push Division and day-of-training 3-1 will be tomorrow for him.

Hearing his voice made me so happy!

  • Adam'sProudMom

Congratulations, MomThatLovesHerSon! Those phone calls from boot camp are wonderful!

  • tina41

    hello all!!

momthatlovesherson---congrats on the phone call!!!   they are a blessing!!

  • tina41

    hello again!!

Theresa--i know the time after PIR is short!  even if we had the whole weekend it wouldn't be long enough!!LOL     Charleston is a nice place to visit.  we have been there four times since my son started school.  planning on another trip soon.

  • CoreysWife Ship 14 DIV 324

My husband leaves for BC July 1st 2013. After BC we will be moving to charleston for nuke school. I'm very excited but nervous. I have no idea how the moving process works. Does my husband have to set everything up or is there something I can do?
  • tina41

    hello all!!

I don't know much about getting housing in goose creek.  I can tell you that when my son got married after he graduated from power school, to get base housing he had to do the work.  there was paperwork that he had to get done.  I don't know if sailors can live outside of the dorms while in A school and power school.  I know that they have to get housing of some kind once they graduate power school and before they start prototype.  good luck to both of you and your sailors!!

  • NF Mom

I am not sure this will help at all - but it looked interesting when I was looking for something related to housing a while back.

    Good Luck:
