Hello again! My youngest just shipped 6/12. I got "the box" today. Having gone through this 2 years ago, I knew it was coming and was prepared. It is still a difficult time. He's my baby! I look forward to this journey with you all. This site was very helpful last time. God bless our Sailors and their families.

Anna, mail gets to Ship 5 as soon as it is processed. Some indicated that letters got to their recruits about 4 to 5 days after they were mailed, but that was earlier this year.

  • ProudNavyGirlfriend

Hi all! Does anybody know how much a call costs while in boot camp? My dad gave me an old call card to give to my boyfriend when he leaves for BC next month. It has about $17 on it but I want to make sure that's enough...

  • ldyastrid

ProudNavyGirlfriend - my son tells me cards are cheaper for your recruit to buy at the NEX than it is to buy one for him - he thinks about $100 would be good (altho he did have some $ left on his card - he bought several while there tho)

  • MontanaNavyMom

I purchased PennyTalk cards. It says they are one cent per minute- I got a $10 card. Do you think that will be good to start my son out when he leaves ?
  • A and B

My fiance started boot camp on Thursday at 1:00a.m.! That 2 minute phone call was so hard! I wanted to say so much more!
  • JaMom

Received a surprise 30 min call from my daughter this morning. Made my day!
  • Carol

Yayy! For JaMomj! Best feeling ever!

  • bugsmom27948

    That's awesome!
  • MoMom

Cheyenne, I missed my son's 3 week phone call. It happens, unfortunately. It really was the worst, but hopefully you'll hear from him again soon. So sorry that happened!
  • lemonelephant

Recruits have taken $25 calling cards and had time left at the end of BC. Recruits can buy a calling card at the NEX if needed.

  • ScooterGirl

My son called today. Almost missed talking to him because the caller ID said Vietnam so I didn't answer, I'm not kidding it really said Vietnam. Thankfully he called his dad ( it came up Waukegan) and we were able to talk to him He sounds so much better than his letters sound

My son just got to boot camp on June 13th. When do we usually find out their graduation date?

  • ellen0502

A Sailor onboard the USS FITZGERALD posted this earlier...

"DO NOT give to any go fund me pages for USS FITZGERALD. None of them are USN endorsed. We appreciate the outpouring of support. The American Red Cross, Navy & Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS), and USO are accepting donations."

Many of the Sailors lost all of their personal belongings such as cell phones, laptops, tablets, civilian clothes, toiletries etc. If you would like to help please do so through one of the above mentioned organizations. The crew and families have a long haul to overcome this tragic accident and your positive thoughts and prayers are needed. God bless the USS FITZGERALD Sailors and the entire Navy family as we morn those that periled on the sea.

UPDATE: I was just informed that the NMCRS is the main source for donations at this time. Feel free to share

  • Anti M

Thank you, ellen0502.  I will be donating to the USO via the link I posted below.

Sad that scammers would prey upon those who ache for our Navy family.

  • AZ2OH2IL2UT

Thank you for this information. My heart aches. Prayers are ongoing for everyone.

757NavyMom,The Form Letter arrives an average of ten days after the recruit's arrival at the RTC. Some will have it 7 days after arrival (a few earlier than that, but not many) and most will have it by 14 days after arrival. It will tell you your recruit's address and PIR date and other important information. Keep it in a safe place.

Arrival and What Happens at the RTC will let you know what is happening and what to expect.

  • Kevsmom (ship4 div179)

Proudnavygirlfriend my son's only job before bootcamp was to workout twice everyday for a year. And drop/pick up his sister from school. And he was busy, tired, studing, resting, and yes you would think it was just working out But he was also adjusting mentally. He was a mommas boy and the last two months he was distant. We were ok with it because we knew he needed to be ready mentally and physically for this big step
  • Antsmom

My son was eliminated for medical reasons, unknown. He called his girlfriend this morning and said she should take his name off her contacts because he won't be contacting her anymore. I called RTC legal and they're going to try and contact him so he can call me. I'm extremely worried!

  • nikita0825

@Antsmom - was your son was separated?  That's when they take him out of their division and put them somewhere else.  His gf was the only one he called?  I'm sure you are concerned!  I would be too!!! - I hope he calls you soon!

  • lemonelephant

Separated is to be sent to SEPS to be sent home.

  • MoMom

    @Antsmom-
Praying for your son, and for your family. It must be devastating news for him. He may just need some time.
  • Nicole

Prayers for you @antsmom. You are in my thoughts!
  • ibeitz71

I just received the call from bootcamp that my son arrived safely.  I send a second son tomorrow.  God give me strength.

  • NavyPumpkin

My son left on June 15th.  Does anyone else in the group have a recruit who left on that day?

  • jennifer

My son left in the 14th but didn't arrive until the 15th due to flight delays. I sort of think 13..14.15 arrivals maybe together...but what do I know!! I'm saying novenas for them everyday.
  • lemonelephant

G'sCBMOM,it is a small percentage who are sent to SEPS for various reasons (medical, adjustment issues, social issues...). Each division starts with about 88 recruits. An average of 75 of those will make it to PIR as scheduled. Some of those 13 are separated and sent home. Some are ASMO'd to another division with a later PIR date. Some are ASMO'd to FIT and most of those do go on to be Sailors. Some are sent to the RCU and most of those will go on to be Sailors.

  • SailorsLIMom

The sentiment is strongly echoed.  Lemon, you're a peach!

  • JRnukeMom

My son left May 20th....anyone have a recruit who left for BC at that time?
  • April

My son left May 24th ship 14/div 223
  • nise4295

    Mine left May 21st...division 221
  • Motherof5

My son left may 18. Shop 6 Div. 217. He graduates July 14.
  • Math teacher

My grandson originally had PIR date of June 30. A week ago his Mom got a call that he had been moved to another division. He was in the 207 and now is in 218. His graduation date was changed from June 30!to June 14. He was having trouble with the chain of command and had not made his bed properly. The mail we have received was prior to this change so we r worried about how he is doing. Any ideas
  • NicksMom

My son left May 30th. Ship 03, Div230, PIR date of 7/28. Still no letters or phone call.
  • ibeitz71

I leave in one hour to take the second son this week to the recruiter to go to boot camp. I am very proud but my heart is definitely heavy letting two go in one week.  I don't know how we do this as Moms.  I have always believed my job was to make them independent but it's hard letting them go.

  • ldyastrid

ibeitz71 - are they both going into the Navy?  You aren't letting go - you're allowing them to spread their wings with confidence!
