Found this on another forum... it's GREAT!

  • NicksMom

I agree! You want your kids to be independent, and when they are it still hurts.
  • Antsmom

I heard from my son yesterday and he's in good spirits despite his impending medical discharge. We're both fighters so I'm going to ask him to consider appealing the decision. I think it's worth it, nothing to lose and more to gain. I wish all of you best wishes and prayers for your Sailor's success and health. Blessings.

  • herNavymom

Antsmom - so sorry to hear of this. He really needs to push the envelope while he is there for an appeal.  If it is a matter of 'concrete' medical (eyes are worse than enlisted, scoliosis is more curved...etc) then it will be hard and those are normally not overturned.   If it is for other 'subjective' reasons, once he is discharged it will be an uphill battle. So if this is an egregious decision on the navy, then people he can contact while he is out to speak on his behalf may be worthy to get NOW before he leaves. hope this helps.

Math Teacher.....My daughter had an original graduation date of June 9th and was held back until the 23rd. She should be graduating this Friday we are waiting for the "I'm a Sailor" call today. She did Battle Stations last night. Being held back is not unusual, sometimes they just need a little extra time. My daughter also had trouble with making her bed. They are just making sure he is learning everything he needs to learn, it is harder for some, but I am sure he will do fine the important thing is that he is still there!

  • ibeitz71

Yes both sons are entering the NAVY proud Mom of one Crypto Linguist and one NAVY Nuke.

  • ibeitz71

They were supposed to leave together on Sunday but the NUKE was delayed a couple of days due to his background check paperwork all cleared now.  Hopefully this gets them into the same graduating class leaving two days apart.

  • FLNavymom

I got the form letter yesterday!  My son graduates 8/4.  He is in Div 238.  My oldest is deployed and just left his first port stop after a month at sea. One month down, two to go.  I'm so proud of my Sailors and miss them terribly.

  • ldyastrid

That's great ibeitz71!!!!  Maybe so!  That'd be awesome!  Where are you from?

  • nise4295

Missing my boy terribly today...I guess because he sent his dad and grandfather letters last week, so I didn't get one. Anyone else have someone in div 221 and has heard from them?

  • ibeitz71

Well second son is dropped off on his way to MEPS in Harrisburg PA then flying out tomorrow morning for boot camp.

  • ldyastrid

Oh geeeeze ibeitz71 - I sure hope they have the same PIR - coming out 2 weekends in a row would be... difficult!  I'd be tempted to call Great Lakes and tell them to make sure both kids have the same PIR date!  hehe

  • ibeitz71

I thought it would be easier knowing they are in the same place at the same time.  Turns out two sons in one week is just a little too much!  My oldest arrived yesterday, I got the scripted call at 2:04 pm and the next one will arrive tomorrow. I wish i could be a fly on the wall to know what he is experiencing today and how he is handling it.  They are working hard to ensure these two are in the same PIR so keep your fingers cross for me.

Antsmom, prayers and Gods blessings! Truthfully, we or I am praying everyday something doesn't come up. So, we all are not out of the woods yet. Tell your son keep his spirit and determination, and good job,it's not easy where he is right now. Brighter days coming!
  • MamaB

@ibeitz71 Praying for you! I can't even imagine what you are going through since it is both of your boys. Stay strong!

Hoping you got your call carlsbad92009. I feel better after getting your input. Thanks. I thought there was about a weeks time between I am a sailor call and PIR. Guess that can vary too. Good wishes to your daughter and your family.

Math teacher, the "I'm a Sailor!" call can come 7 (most common) to 9 days (it happens when there are holidays near the PIR date) ahead of PIR for the first divisions of the TG to just a day or so before PIR for the last divisions. See Battle Stations-21 (BST).

  • Sasysweet

Lemon, is there a way to known what the division range is in our SRs TG?
  • Carlsbad92009

Math teacher yes we got our call!!! We just landed in Chicago and are so excited to see her tomorrow. Good luck! All the stress is worth it in the end!!
  • SailorsLIMom

I read the link, got it...what is "TG"? See u at the meet and greet! Div 195.
  • NavyCousinThisTime

question from something in a letter. Our recruit just sent a letter. he was talking about being in the division he got moved to.  (beenin new division a week) He said the head RDC IT'd him so he knew who he was.  Not sure if he meant before or after he moved.  What does that mean?

Thank you. Congrautations to all those that are graduating tomorrow and wishing a very happy day to everyone.

  • brynne21

@NavyCousinThisTim, it means "intensive training." Basically they PT'd the heck out of him. The new RDC was making a point. It's ok. If he wrote the letter, he got through it fine. Most all of them go through that at one point or another. Good luck to your SR in his new division!
  • lemonelephant

IT is intensive training. (things like extra push-ups)

The Page, What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology), will help you with many of the new terms you will come across.

  • FGGM

My God son leaves for MEPS June 27, anyone else??? This is both families first military experience and we're hoping to connect with others that may be with him. With maybe a little more experience about what to expect. Emotions are getting pretty rough these days.

Still no letter, Feeling a little down... So many of you have received yours already! Daughter left on the 12th and called be early that night at 11:30. Hopefully it comes soon. I'm getting a little anxious, I know shes fine, I just want something. Miss her a lot and have a pile of letters and stuff to send as do many in my family. I haven't really dealt with her being at boot-camp again, I think the text messages asking if I have heard yet from friends and family might put me over the edge. :(

Moparmom, I'm in the same spot as you.  My daughter arrived at BC on 6/12 and I got her box this last Monday. Keep telling myself the letter is coming, and "No News is Good News".  I miss my baby girl so much!  Not only is she discovering how strong she is, us moms are discovering how strong we are.  Hopefully our letters will arrive soon.

  • CFLMama (ship 3 Div245)

Ship 3 division 245 for my daughter also
  • Babybird98

My son left for boot camp on May 21, I couldn't wait to get "the I arrived phone call" and the box and form letter.  Then all of sudden nothing for days and I was miserable. Then I got the call "Mom I'm in medical" it was the worst day for my SR, he was devastated, depressed and didn't want to be in the hospital, even pretended he was ok.   I prayed and willed ,this kid back to health over the phone. I put away my tears and helped him realize how strong he really was and that all the test would come back negative and he would get to return. 4 days later he returned to camp.  I say all this to say, YES we want a phone call, but I'm here to tell you NO phone call is better.

He told me the best time of day is mail call. He also told me that he really is too tired to write, All they want is our letters, it helps them cope.  So keep writing and praying and hope that you never get the MEDICAL call.

  • Sasysweet

Hi all! I recieved my first letter from my SR today. I have not been able to stop crying... I am so proud of him and happy he seems to be doing well.

He said has been given the P.O job of Starboard Watch and makes the calls while marching.  What does this mean for him?  He also said that if he does well with this job and passes the tests he has taken he can get promoted to an E3 and possibly get a letter of recommendation to get promoted to an E4.  What does all of this mean??  where can I find out information on all of that??

  • NavyMomKW

Thank you for that Babybird98!  I am glad that your guy is doing well minus the little scare.  You make a really good point about us wanting a call but do we really? LOL.  I hope that everyone continues to strive and make it to PIR :)

  • TAT'sMom

Hang tight Mopar, my son left June5 today I got my first letter from him! It's coming Mom. They are busy and tired and it takes a while for the mail. He wrote 6/11 I received it 6/22. Its hard to wait, just keep writing to him!
  • TAT'sMom

Sassysweet go to main room chat ask ladies where to find info.
  • New Navy Mom 1

@Sasysweet that's all good news. Most recruits go in as a E1. My son started at an E2 because he was in JROTC. So reaching E3/4 is fantastic. He's doing well. You should be very proud.
  • MoparMom

oh i know the first letter from her will take awhile, but i haven't received the form letter yet. So still in the air for when PIR is and all that. I will be honest, getting letters from my daughter may not be something i get a whole lot of, but being able to get her letters from myself and family is what i want more then anything. Its hard watching everybody else getting their From letter and knowing when PIR is and just having to continue to wait. I'm not good for not having things in line, my OCD gets the best of me and panic sets in. I'm trying to stay calm and know that no call and no news is good news. It means shes kicking ass, but still hard...

Fingers crossed for both of us NavyWildcat they they come tomorrow!!!

  • NavyMomKW

I feel your pain MoparMom- I get super irritated when someone says "oh have you heard from your daugher?" Like NO- she is at boot camp lol.  The point is NOT to hear from them really expect for our form letters and FedEx boxes, letters when they can write, and their final "I am a Sailor" call.  Hang in there though you'll get her form letter and box soon!!

  • SailorsLIMom

Anna, do u know the medical issue? I'm not asking what it is, just sympathizing with you if, even after all this time, you still don't know it. Talk about driving a mom crazy… but the good news part does sound like good news.
  • ibeitz71

10:14 pm I received the I am here call from the second son this week. Proud Mom of two Navy recruits nuke and crypto linguists. One arrived Tuesday one tonight. Pray they get the same PIR date.
