You may receive an "I'm still alive!" call in week 3 or 4 (calendar week, not DOT), but that call can come before or after that depending on when the RDC is able to schedule the phone banks. Don't expect a call, but do have your phone available from 8ish am to 8ish pm Central Time and be pleasantly surprised when you receive a call.  The "I'm still alive!" call or other calls the RDC schedules usually come in the mornings on weekdays except on the day of a PIR because the "I'm a Sailor!" calls, which are typically made 1-7 days, but can come up to 10 days, before PIR, are in the afternoon and evenings, but calls can come anytime during those hours on Saturday.  Calls on the day of a PIR or on Sunday come between 1 and 8 pm. Calls for security reasons or for information are generally made during regular business hours.  Remember "No news is good news!" See Phone Cards and Phone Calls.

Nicknukemom, those in a Push Division don't have to "catch up" since all recruits have 6 weeks of actual training regardless of when they arrive. Those in a Push Division will finish that training and have Battle Stations-21 (BST) only a couple of days before PIR while those in the first divisions in the TG will finish training and have BST about a week before PIR. Those in a Push Division must push to get things done right the first time since there is less time to redo things if they don't pass the first time. There is more on a Push Division in Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology).

Anyone know - do the divisions pass BST as a unit or individually?  What I'm asking is if this is an all pass or no one passes situation or individual SR's can pass on their own despite a member of the division not completing whatever it is they do.  And I apologize because I really don't understand what it is they will do at BST so this may be a stupid question.

  • SailorsLIMom

Short note: I got the "I'm a Sailor!" call around 2:30PM on a Friday afternoon, one week before PIR that was on June 23.  I missed the first call because I was in a noisy mall paying for my lunch.  I almost started sobbing, but then Daughter called right back and we talked for about 15 minutes.  Not only keep your phone with you--but be able to hear it at all times!  ;)

  • KiddGreen1978

So true SailorsLIMom! I got my call at work in the evening at 6:30pm! Keep your phone on the loudest ringtone that you have! And keep it within reach. I go to the bathroom, shower, cook with it, roller skate with it. I also sleep with it! I almost missed my call first call from him.
  • SailorsLIMom

KiddGreen 1978, I love the roller skating part! My friend gave me cellphone holder that I wear around my neck when hiking or working out.  It's not a pouch, but just thin straps that the phone fits into. Nothing to remove the phone from, which can take precious TIME!!  I can lift it up and take a picture, for example. Really comes in handy when waiting for these calls.

  • raising3247

I leave the volume turned up on my phone all the time, even at church!
  • KiddGreen1978

Amen Raising3247!Praising God and waiting for my baby to call!

I love that idea SailorsLIMom! Your friend is amazing fir that idea. I just hold mine in the back pocket and keep the ear piece in one ear!

Hello I have been on reading and absorbing everything since February. My daughter was supposed to leave 8/1 but got postponed Til 10/9. Are the PIR groups for graduation or the beginning of boot camp? Thank you for your help and sharing all of your information. :)
  • ellen0502

PIR groups are started as form letters arrive, or as the next TG is starting. The PIR groups are for those with recruits graduating on the specific date. It is a way to get to know other recruits families. You will all be attending the same PIR. :)

  • raising3247

Does anyone know how long of a walk it is from parking to the drill hall?  I have health issues that make it hard for me to walk long distances and I am just wondering if my husband could  drop me off closer to the drill hall.

  • SailorsLIMom

"PIR" stands for "Pass in Review", and it's a general military term, not just Navy.  The graduates are reviewed by senior officers, thus the term.  From the drop-off place, it was about a 7-min walk on a sidewalk.  Here's a map of RTC: (http://navyformoms.ning.com/group/pir11142014/forum/topics/maps-of-...), but it's not to scale so not too helpful.  Hopefully, one of the more experienced NavyMoms will know the answer--or, you might call the motel where you're staying.  Many of them have transportation to and from PIR.  I did see family members at PIR who were in wheelchairs, so easier access is possible.

  • NickSydmom

Sailorslimom omg that's so exciting. Your really a sailors mom.
  • Mom1997

The hall where graduation takes places is about one block from the gate. When you walk into gate ask forbwheel chair or ask your sailor to advise before that you need one they are very attended to your needs
  • AnchorsAweigh!

Soccermum, congrats and best wishes to your son m.
  • lemonelephant

raising3247, drive onto the RTC and then park in the parking garage, which is next to the Visitors Center where you will check in. Have the handicapped placard visible when entering the parking garage and you will be directed to the handicapped parking. There will be Sailors or recruits there who will have wheelchairs if one is needed. You will not be able to stay in the wheelchair while in the Drill Hall, but will transfer to a chair in one of the handicapped seating areas. See the info on that and more in PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend.

Anyone know about visiting a SR in hospital? My SR was sent there yesterday and could be there several days. He mentioned visitors were allowed but I can't find the o ffical rules?
  • Lesliepartyof6

Sorry to hear that librarianmom. Hope your SR recovers quickly and you get the answers you are searching for.
  • Familyof6

Missing my boy. The first letter from him can't come soon enough.

  • jacquiesboys

My son left on 7/13, got his first letter today! What a relief, and emotional. He is doing well! He said he thinks he has figured out this boot camp thing, just keep quiet and listen, lol. That's my boy! He said he thinks he gets a phone call in a week, but he wrote the letter on 7/30, so I am assuming maybe this weekend! Will be great to hear his voice. Hope more of you are getting letters today as well!

  • lemonelephant

librarianmom, yes, recruits are allowed visitors while in the hospital, but not once they return to the RTC.

  • AnchorsAweigh!

Hello there, I too received my first letters today. Wanted to kiss everyone! My son sounded great! He wanted Boot to start as processing days took longer than he thought and were boring. Now he is dripping sweat on the deck of the ship! Haha I hope those waiting for letters got them or will get them soon s my heart is now beating back to its normal rhythm.
  • Prattlebrat

Did the return address on letters change at all from the form letter address we are supposed to be using? My son sent it with the full name and the address number was one different than the form letter. I'm worried now about what address to use.
  • Lesliepartyof6

Prattlebrat: Use the address that your son wrote inside that form letter! It should have his full name, ship# and div # along with street address.
  • SCSunshine777

Prattlebrat yes In would the form letter address. Although address was the same she left out one of the numbers on the return address in the zip, lol probably in a hurry.
  • Navmom

    Hi everyone,
I got my first letter today, son is in good spirits just said that there is a lot of screaming since some in division goof around a bit too much, but we all expected that, so I'm sure it will stop-soon.
I was super happy tO read his first letter..I miss him so much but I know he is doing well
  • Eidlhe

Hi all!!  We got two letters today!!!! SO happy to hear from him.

  • Proud Navy mom of 2 daughters

I just missed my daughters call :(. If anyone hears from Division 246 please post..

  • Proud Navy mom of 2 daughters

I need to know if DIV 246 PASSED

  • jennifer

Tweetybird 6...people in the PIR Facebook page are posting calls from 246. So I say yes!
  • Marchella

Tweetybird passed what? Was there a test?

  • AnchorsAweigh!

Yay! For those that got letters I know I was soo happy when I received mine, it had been a long 3 weeks. But we have it easy, we just wait.. they are at Boot becoming Navy sailors. We are all proud parents. A big HOOYAH!
  • Seahawk

Hello Everybody! I joined a wholeness ago but never posted much. we finally found out my son will ship September 26, 2017. I counted 9 Fridays and it looks like his PIR would be on Thanksgiving weekend. do they have PIR on Thanksgiving weekend?
Now that I know he will ship soon I will probably post a lot more often with a bunch of questions. I have been reading all the posts and I have to say it is nice to know I am not alone. Happy Friday!!!
  • lemonelephant

Seahawk, yes, he will most likely be in the Thanksgiving TG and if so, will have PIR on the Wednesday before PIR. Since he is shipping at the beginning of the week, he could end up in a Push Division if he is placed in one of the last divisions from the week before and have PIR on 11/17/2017 instead.

  • lemonelephant

Marchella, Divisions 245/246 went through Battle Stations-21 (BST), their final test at BC, last night and made the "I'm a Sailor!" calls today.

Ok, anyone else getting a little obsessive??? I think my husband is sick of hearing me wondering when the call will come or when the letter will come.... I feel like if I can at least hear his voice in the letter or through the phone; then I will know how to support him in my letters back to him.

  • raising3247

Familyof6 - I know that my husband got sick of hearing me obsess about phone calls.  I don't think they get it.  I know my son is going to be fine but I still wanted to hear his voice.  The first letter was like gold and then when we finally got to talk to him it made me feel so much better.  I still keep my phone on me all the time just in case he calls but I am not quite as worried about when that call will come in.

  • Familyof6

raising3247 I think I just need to get occupied with something else. I think this upcoming week with us being gone for a few days it will help. I know that no news is great news; I just need to learn better to be patient (not my best virtue).

  • librarianmom

No news is good news...if you get a call on a Wednesday at 4pm it isn't Good!
  • KiddGreen1978

@Librarianmom: what do you mean about the Wednesday call? Why isn't it good?
  • Familyof6

librarianmom now I am going to be looking at the clock every wednesday (or any day) at 4 pm! LOL!!!

  • Familyof6

    librarianmom and worrying!!

  • Familyof6

KiddGreen1978, IKR? I don't know if I should be worried about 4 pm or happy each day at 4 pm.

  • librarianmom

Sorry all...there is no specific Wednesday call. My son called this Wednesday to say be was in hospital. No news would have been better than that. He is on the mend but probably won't be released until Monday.
  • Familyof6

librarianmom I am so very sorry. I apologize and you are absolutely correct; I should much more greatful for no news is good news. I will keep your son in my thoughts and prayers. Please let us know how is doing and if you need any support. Thoughts with you.

  • NickSydmom

Once you hear his voice saying he is ok, a huge weight will be lifted. I hope it's soon for you
  • KiddGreen1978

I second Familyof6's words. I will be praying for you and your SR.I hope I didn't sound ungrateful for the information, I was just concerned about the call. Last time I received a call from my last son in boot camp he was being sent to the FIT group telling me he wouldn't graduate. I'm just cautious.
