Zoey hang in there, this is a rough time I know!!

  • Mattsmomma

I did register for Informed Delivery but it hasn't started yet. The mail did come, but no form letter for me :(

  • KayCee

ShawnMom - Thank You so much!  Every bit of information helps to weigh everything out.  I appreciate you sharing your experience and your research!!

  • Mattsmomma

Yes, got the box last Tuesday the 15th.  So frustrated!

  • pkiwi70

Anchors aweigh can you give me an overview of how Sandboxx works? We have sent 6 letters he has not gotten them he said he sent us a letter a week ago we got nothing. This is from a call as he needed numbers for his job. Thank you
  • lovemysailor07

Pkiwi70 I love the sandboxx app. You sign up write a letter and add a picture then add your debit card and they will charge you $3 per letter or you can get a bundle it's quick and easy. I sent my husband four letters through the app and the others were hand written
  • pkiwi70

This is great so this would lead me to ask how do they get the letters to our recruits? Also is this through the App Store?
  • lovemysailor07

Sorry it's an orange icon type in the app store "sandboxx"
  • pkiwi70

Ok so I just downloaded the app pretty quick easy process. Those that have used how quickly do they get the letters? So if I send one today coming from western PA how quickly would my son get it?
  • lovemysailor07

By Friday or or Monday. Usually 2 days
  • lovemysailor07

Like I wrote my husband a letter today and just got the email that it's been shipped so he may get it Friday
  • AnchorsAweigh!

Sorry I jst got in from work, yes it's an app and it's so awesome! I picked the $20 bundle.
  • NatalieR

I am very interested too in this Sandboxx app. Seems great!! I am also confused on how the recruits get their letters. Actual paper mail or through the app?

  • pkiwi70

Ok so sent first letter with a picture of his 4 legged best friend. How do we get confirmation that it was sent? Will we also get confirmation they receive it? Just hoping it gets to him the other 6 have not.
  • Rumace

Once I got my son's address (from form letter), I have been sending letters through the post office.  I have had no problems with him receiving them.

  • Valerie ( Guantanamo Bay )

with a graduation date of 9/8 , when should we stop sending mail? ... and can they take their cell phones back to the barracks after bootcamp?

MyHusbandMySailorMyLoveit was 2 weeks yesterday. It's very hard just patiently well trying to be patient for all of our sakes.
  • AnchorsAweigh!

Hello, the Sandboxx app prints off the letters with photo attached and is delivered like a ref paper letter. You will get confirmation of letter, when it's on its way and when it's delivered. It takes abt 2-3 days. My son says they are really cool!
  • AnchorsAweigh!

But also Informed Delivery through the post office shows u exactly what mail u will b getting everday. Just don't check till after 8a.m.
  • TessaNator⚓️

Maggie: questionaries ....I used one on this site but tweaked it to make more personal. Then I made my second up from more questions I wanted answered., I did True/false, Or made up funny answers to questions (circle a,b,c,d).   The third I just googled.

    http://navyformoms.ning.com/profiles/blogs/blog-ops-pir-05262011-boot

Also, I searched a bunch of inspirational phrases:  https://images.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search;_ylt=AwrTcdp2IZ5ZDNUAeKY...

And cut out Navy humor: https://www.pinterest.com/tessajensen58/navy-and-boot-camp-humor/?e...

Every day I put in 2-3 Joke/comics and clip a couple inspirational  quotes to keep my son's moral up.  He loved the questionaires, because its quick for him (they are tired). Hope this helps!

  • TessaNator⚓️

LuLu6679:  Navy lodge has a free shuttle to PIR. Its over a mile to walk it.  The shuttle takes you past the long car lines.   Much more efficient.

  • Erin

For the sandboxx app is it expensive to send the letters? Not that it matters to me but some family members were asking. Thanks in advance.
  • AnchorsAweigh!

The Sandboxx letters cost $3 each or u can buy a bundle . I bought the bundle but the last week will send one by one .
  • TessaNator⚓️

    • shuttle ,  take the shuttle.  Avoid long car lines and search.
  • Erin

Great thank you AnchorsAweigh!!! Do I need to send my girl stationary to writes letters back or does sandboxx provide the stationary too?
  • TessaNator⚓️

it takes 4 days from postmark

  • TessaNator⚓️

sandboxx also includes a piece paper and stamped envelope with every letter.

I have never got the envelope back, he must be using for other letters.  I send questionaire when i need a response with a stamped self adressed envelope. Works great

  • TessaNator⚓️

you can buy packages, its not too expensive.  I am rural, so I love this option when I want to get a letter out quick

KC, My son graduated 8/04/17, I had a rental car and it was no problem. The parking garage is right at the graduation hall and its free, you just need to have the rental papers with you.
  • TAT'sMom

Oh, don't forget to use the info in the form letter to print off pass to drive onto base. Easy instructions. Take a small purse, no big bags. They say no photos outside to be taken of base. Make a nice banner or celebration wreath with your Sailors name and division to display on hotel door if your at Navy lodge. I flew so mine was simple so not to be damaged by flight. Some families went all out and looked awesome. Most of all let your SR decide how to spend their time and Enjoy. It was too risky for us to go into Chicago as the traffic was backed up due to music festival at Grant Park. Cheese Cake Factory was a great place to eat. Just enjoy the moment!
  • AnchorsAweigh!

Hey Erin, no stAtionary required you just type up ur letter by using the app and they print, stamp and mail it for you. You will get a copy of your letter too. It really is quick and I like that you can send one etc on a Sunday knowing that in a couple of days yr SR will receive it. :D
  • KayCee

TAT'sMom - thank you for all the info.  I appreciate the note about the door decoration and all too.  So helpful :)

  • Erin

AnchorsAweigh, thank you!!! Sandboxx does provide stationary for my daughter to write back to me or whoever is ending her a letter? Sorry for the confusion this is all new to me!!! Xo
  • Chipmunk

nukemom42 - most definitely a tear jerker!! And I haven't even watched all of Toy Story 3!  But I know the general story. I feel with you.

  • Sunflower

Thank you to everyone for all the info! I wish I had known about this group when my first son went through basics. I have already downloaded the sandboxx app and will be ready when my other son ships out on 9/26.

  • Sunflower

Can anyone make reservations and stay at the Navy Lodge for the PIR?

  • NickSydmom

Sunflower, make the reservation under your SR's name. Families of navy members are welcome. I would book it immediately, it fills up fast. I had to call every day for a month before I got in, due to a cancellation. Also, don't book online the site doesn't work properly. Book via phone.
  • AnchorsAweigh!

Oh no probs and u jst taught me something as I didn't realize they were given paper to write back. My son just uses the Naval paper.
  • Sunflower

Nicknukemom.....Thank you. My only problem is his PIR would be the Friday after Thanksgiving and he said it would probably be pushed up a week or back a week. I might not know until he leaves and I get his form letter.

  • Mattsmomma

I didn't get the letter, but I did call the recruiter and found out all the information I needed, ship, address, division, PIR date.... I can't even describe the relief I'm feeling.

  • Phoenixmom

Mattsmomma thats is perfect that the Recruiter gave the info, but alot of times they ask for you to wait to send a letter until you receive a letter from him with the info. that is what I was told. I received the form letter like the second week my son was sent off.

  • TessaNator⚓️

is the gate pass different from the parking pass?

  • NickSydmom

Sunflower count 9 fridays from his departure, that is usually the formula. It's easy to cancel a reservation but hard to get one. I would book it and if you find out different you can cancel and try for the new date
  • NavyMomKim2

About a week and half ago I received a letter from my son't best friend that left a week before my son did for BC and at the end of the letter he made a tic tac toe game and said play me. So I decided to do a sheet of tic tac toe games, we may of may not finish them, on one side and the other side we write a brief note to each other. Both recruits loved it and they showed others and one of my son's peers asked if he could switch moms ;-) I LOVED it and filled my heart to see they both enjoyed getting this and playing the game :-) I now have to place all my o's on the 12 games and send it back off today. I did also included a self stamped addressed envelope to make it easier for them to send it back to me quickly. Just wanted to share a fun way to maybe take their mind off things.

  • Sunflower

hooyahsuzy....If my son's PIR is supposed to be Fri 11/24, it will be held on Wed 11/22? Do you know if the Sailors get liberty for Thanksgiving or could they still ship out that Wed night?

  • ProudNavyMom

Does anyone know when the "Moment of Truth" takes place?
