Hi to all...I am new to the group. My daughter leaves for BC in 2 weeks. Nervous but excited. Question: Is there a size specification for the "black wallet" the recruits are allowed to keep?

  • Phoenixmom

Welcome Lisap to the site, here is a link to click on at the top click on Recruits it will give you info on what to expect and what you can bring and don't bring. hope this helps. I will put more info on your my page.

lisap - I am not sure on the size of the wallet. My son had a passport pouch that he got for a trip with his grandmother and he wore it around his neck. He took that with him and as I recall he kept it in bc, but I think they actually issued him another wallet, unless that was the one I had purchased for him. Our Wal-Mart had some tri-fold nylon wallets and I may have purchased one of those for him.

Good afternoon all. My son leaves in April- it was June but they moved him up. We are excited and stressed at the same time. Depending on how it works out his PIR may be the same day as his brothers high school graduation. My prayer is that his processing and assignment to a ship take just enough time to move his PIR to a week later.

  • Phoenixmom

Welcome Mern to the Group glad you came along and Congrats to your New SR. here is a site also that you may join when the time comes.

a question was asked about parking vouchers.

U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command There is no "parking voucher." Your ticket is what allows you to drive onto base.

I received a letter today.  I was so excited when I saw on the USPS site that a letter from my daughter was in today’s mail.  Of course the mail did not get here till 4pm, but hey, I got one.  She said the first 2 days were the worst.  Once she made it thru that, she started feeling better.  She said she thinks it was just exhaustion from lack of sleep.  I don’tknow How many women are in a usual division, but she said about half of the women were gone from hers.  They either didn’t pass the new run requirements or had another issue that required they be sent home or held back.   She was warning that they are talking about combining her group with the group ahead and that her graduation may come earlier, we were initially told 3/9.  How long will it be before we know for sure?  I know I probably shouldn’t have, but I have already purchased my airline tickets. I hope I can swap if necessary, but not going to make any changes till I know.  She said she’s the one handling mail and that most of the women in her division have kids, husbands or boyfriends.  She has dogs :).   I can’t wait till a potential phone call on Saturday.

  • Missomd

Happy for you. Lots of people got letters today. I didnt, but i can look forward to tomorrow. I have to remember no news is good news! Glad you got a letter. Must be proud knowing she was doung well.
  • Phoenixmom

Good News ATLUTD So glad that you received a letter, and yes sad to say not many make it, it's not unusual to put her in another group, hopefully you will know soon, write her back and ask her to let you know asap, if you are flying southwest that may be able to let you change the dates, something I would look into. I think I seen it mentioned once. Yes the lack of sleep is common, so they are pretty worn out. I am so glad that at least you can be at ease now,

So how serve the food at Sarges and meet and Greet, cause I'm really h.u.n.g.r.y.!!!! Lol

  • Kimona

If an SR doesn't meet requirements and has to wait longer to graduate how do we know where to write them? Do they change Ship/DIV?
  • NavyMom21

Kimona, they will call you and tell you what is going on with the new info.

  • Kimona

@NavyMom21 he did call yesterday but the call was only about 30 seconds. He stated that he hadn't passed everything and now he had to wait until March 2nd. So what you're saying is he will get another opportunity to call and tell us what happens next and gives us additional information?
  • IrishNavyMom

@kimona was his PIR 2/9 originally? Our son was hospitalized in week 3 of BC for 4 Days with a bilateral pneumonia. We were sure he was going to be Asmo’d. We received an automated call from him saying he was going to pushed back and to look for new paperwork to arrive in the mail. That was a week ago. I haven’t written since because I’m not sure if they removed him from 14/102. I can only assumed he too will PIR on 3/2 because that’s the next PIR date.

  • Missomd

Irishnavymo. I will pray for him and ask that he stays strong and healthy to graduate on 3/2. God bless.
  • Kimona

    @IrishNavyMom My son's PIR was originally 2/2 And now it's 3/2
  • Kimona

@IrishNavyMom how is your son doing now? Praying that his strength is fully returned and that he is doing well
  • diannep

IrishNavyMom:  They normally do not send out new paperwork when they are asmoed....the new info comes in a call from your SR (PIR date/Ship+Div Number, etc).  Hmmm.....as soon as he is assigned to a new PIR group, he should be calling you with the info.  This happened to my son when he was there in 2009.  He actually called me with a PIR date 2 weeks later....and then called 1 week after that saying he was back to training and gave me a PIR date a week earlier than before.  I got no more paperwork from RTC then.

I know it is awful being in limbo and not knowing what is going on!   Please continue to write him at the original address since they will forward it to him if he has left that division....hopefully he can call this weekend and give you new Ship/Division info IF he has been moved back to another group.  So sorry he was sick....but hope he is getting much better and back to training!

  • diannep

Kimona:  Was the PFA (fitness test) what he said he didn't pass?  If so, he probably was put in the FIT division to keep trying.  If that is the case, he still has a chance to pass before his PIR.

Lately, they have started to drop some back into later PIR groups if their time is way off and they want to give them more time to pass.  If they get  close to that new PIR date and still have not passed, they can still go into FIT for extra chances.  But if they don't make it in time, in FIT they have 10-12 extra chances to pass (testing every 48 hrs---but not on weekends)....Once in FIT and missing their PIR date, they will not have a PIR.  That is another reason they started dropping some back to other PIR groups....to allow them more of a chance to have a PIR.

  • diannep

Kimona:  Whether dropped back to a later PIR group or put in FIT and not passing before original PIR date, hopefully your SR can call you with a new Ship/Div number to write to.  In the meantime, keep writing to the original address as the letters should be forwarded.

  • diannep

And, yes, on what phoenixmom said.  If your reservations are with Southwest....there is NO change fee charged.  Just any difference in fare.  2 bags check for free too!  :-)

  • Kimona

@diannep.... thank you so much for all your comments it is definitely lessened my anxiety! yes it was the PFA. It sounds like it was only by seconds that he missed it. I am praying that he calls me this weekend so that I know if he has a chance to still make his original PIR date. Luckily I made reservations that can all be changed and I'm not taking a flight
  • Phoenixmom

Kimona My prayers are with you and your Son, He will make it no doubt about that, when you speak to him let him know we are all routing for him and to keep focused and determined, Like 2: Timothy states" But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength"

IrishNavyMom my prayers are also with you and your son.

"Cast all your Anxiety on him because he cares for you." 1Peter5:7

Good Morning ladies and welcome to all the newcomers to this site,

Congratulations to all of our new Sailors this morning. Bravo Zula!! It truly is an awesome experience and when they call Liberty you can not wait to get down to the floor to see your sailor.

I have been reading everyone's post and these ladies are here are wonderful phoenixmom, lemonplant, chipmunk and there is so so many more. They truly are God's blessing to us.

My son is in A school but I am still a member of this group. Our next journey begins in March when he graduates not sure where that will be, but it will be somewhere.

For all the Sailors graduating today, congratulations you made it. God bless each and every one of them and thank you for your service.

Would like to Extend a Congratulations to the Families attending PIR today

And A big Congratulations to all the New Sailors! May your Journey be all that you have dreamed of.

  • IrishNavyMom

I stand corrected, when my SR called he said he was put in a “Recovery Division” and taken out of his old Division. I’m assuming because of the pneumonia. He said he would be calling us back “this weekend” with his new info. His call came last Friday so I can only assume we may hear from him this weekend. Does anyone know what a “Recovery Division” is?

  • Phoenixmom

Partyofseven thank you, and Best wishes to you and your Son, My Son will be off to his New Journey in Feb. I am excited and Very Proud of him. So I will be Learning New things on this Journey I am about to take with him. San Diego here he comes!

  • Phoenixmom

IrishNavyMom I'm taking a guess at it just being a Medical Hold, say like those who get injured and put in RCU. My Prayers are with him for a speedy recovery.

  • Mamabear

My daughter left for her duty station this morning. She graduated A school last Friday. So proud of her but taking her to the airport NEVER gets easier. Lots of tears. Congratulations to all the new sailors and to the proud families! Bravo Zulu
  • Phoenixmom

Good Morning Mamabear, Congratulations to your Daughter, I can understand the Never getting easier, when I had to send My Son back to A school from the Holidays, I too shed tears at the airport, My Son Hugged me so tight and said Mom please don't cry I will be fine, we will talk, do not worry. So I can agree with that feeling all so well. I do Not know if I will be able to see him before he goes to his next duty station, but I pray every night he will be ok on his travels there and getting situated. Thank You Mamabear for sharing.

  • Kelz89

@Kimona my husband was supposed to graduate 2/2 as well but was pushed back a week. He told me in the scripted phone call that he will not be graduating on time and gave me his new ship and division number. If you were not told in the phone call I would wait for a letter.
