Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones)

VintageGal:  sorry, no it wasn't the actual cast.  I was just joking with him.  We always watched that show, so when he said NCIS,  I naturally came back at him with that comment.  But it was the real-life NCIS.  He'd heard theories about why they were there, but didn't know for certain. beloved, it may have been an assault crime, he's thinking.  Also, apparently there were some sailors sneaking alcohol in.  So apparently they hadn't learned anything from boot camp.  

beloved, I kept saying to my husband that i really pray a Covid outbreak doesn't happen that gets traced back to my mom's funeral.  But everyone was being really careful, and there were only 17 people there.  And my son's roommate's symptoms are really mild, so hopefully his will be, too.

VintageGal, how are you and your hubby feeling?  

C’smom - well I hope nothing serious happened but the fact that NCIS was there who knows. Yikes

Belovedbyhim- yes that’s what we’ve all been saying. We’re glad that she’s been spared this chaos. Of course we’d rather have her with us but she was having mini heart attacks and then in January it really got bad. That’s when we found out and she knew but hadn’t said anything. There was no way my mom was going to let them do heart surgery on her. It wouldn’t have been good :(  She lived to be 86 years old.

C'sMoM- That is crazy. I hope everything was ok. Oh my gosh that is not good. And no it seems like some of them did not learn anything from boot camp.

Happy Thanksgiving Ladies, I am trying really hard to be grateful for all my Blessings because they are so vast and my Lord truly has been generous. Today would of been my parents 65 Anniversary, we talked to my Dad as he sobbed on the phone. My heart aches for him and he is so far away. I just want to wrap my arms around him and let him know how very much he is Loved. It is so hard on a daughter to see their Daddy cry especially when there is nothing you can do. Hug who ever you get to share Thanksgiving with a little tighter this year because there are alot of broken hearts with empty chairs at the table. God Bless all of you longing for your SAILORS and Loved ones who can't be with you this year.

LBF, thanks for the picture of Orlando.  Those are some nice homes, I always knew that land was desirable.  Same thing happened in San Diego when we gave up that boot camp.  

Shanny, it isn't unusual to get the opposite of what's on your dream sheet out of A school.  It happens enough it is an ongoing Navy joke.

NCIS?  When I was in Japan, they came through and did random polygraphs on some of of us who had TS clearances. It was anti-espionage then, USSR and the Cold War.  

I ordered a pie and other groceries.  Got a couple frozen turkey dinners, some sides.  The shopper dropped off the pie box in a bag... standing on its side.  Smushed the rolls.  Substituted the wrong green beans for the crispy ones I wanted.  So much for my little dinner for one... I'm still going to make sweet potatoes.  

Today I have been sick for 14 days, and if you can't drive, you can't get tested.  The clinic I go to won't let you in the door with symptoms, and since I don't drive I can't "wait in the car".  Eerywhere else is doing drive up clinics, not one walk up.  A friend is taking me on Saturday to the free mobile testing, so at least I will know.  No fever, so that's good.  I have never had a two week cold, and this isn't the flu.  I hate it, whatever it is.

I have to admit that I was feeling sorry for myself because our Thanksgiving plans have also been turned upside down and is not looking anything like what I was very hopeful it was going to be this year. Reading your post reminded me to embrace what our days actually look like and to be thankful for what we do have!

Shanny my mouth is watering over a slice of your beautiful cake and a cup of tea, wish we lived closer. We aren't doing anything today but saving Thanksgiving for Saturday. Makes more sense for us because alot of family has to work still on Friday. Happy Thanksgiving!

Ladies thank you so much for your compassion and prayers. You all mean so much to me. My niece made it to my Dad's so he wasn't alone. Thank you Lord for creating families. 

Shanny you can join my family for Thanksgiving on Saturday. We have alot of empty chairs this year. We're not perfect, some like to drink a little too much but I think we got LOVE as perfect as you can possibly get in this life at least. We are a huggy kissy bunch and when we have newbies come in it takes awhile for them to get use to it. Believe me once they get in even divorce doesn't let them leave. My brothers ex and her new husband still join us. My parents taught us just because you can't live with a person doesn't mean you stop loving and sharing life with them. We never had a black sheep, everyone is loved equally.

Anti M- I am so sorry to hear that you have been sick. I am so glad that you are getting tested on Saturday and that your friend is able to take you. Keep resting and taking care of yourself.

Chipmunk- I was in that same place as you earlier. My plans did not work out either and I was not able to see my Sailor at this time. I did turn it around and am grateful for the time we did have together at other holidays. I am grateful for the family that was at my table together today.

I am sorry your Thanksgiving Day was a bust. I wish I could have teleported you here - we did not have much but you were welcome to it! The ONE good thing that will come out of the way your mom treats you is it will make you a better mom to your son.

Vintage - I have just finished binge watching the GG and that chicken episode came to mind for me as well. I LOVE that photo in the kitchen - what an AWESOME photo that captures joy!
What is OC spray?

Katharine - I knew you meant a xylophone for the chickens but did not realize the swing was for them too, lol. Too funny. Do chickens actually like either? My friends have about a dozen chickens and I could see them getting this for them. As for mailing stuff it took SIX weeks for my son to get his absentee ballot on ship. So, remember that for next year. A school is a little different thankfully.

Csmom - sorry your Thanksgiving dwindled. I am trying to focus on what I have and not what I do not have. God is in control and God wins.

BBH - try Chrome. I have never noticed a tool bar on the site, lol.

NWM - awww BNMH to you and pass it on to your dad. This holiday season being the first without her must be tough on the poor man (and you). I hug my little guy more than ever, it was always at least 3 times a day - probably a dozen now. Gosh, I would have loved to have been part of your family growing up!

Party - Dec 14?! Wow, way TOO soon. I will see what happens after about 10 years (if I can). I hope they (sailors) have a choice but I highly doubt it.


Anti - M - hope you get to feeling better soon.

I had to pull from my old post as I got rate limited, lol

I was worried my Thanksgiving meal would fall through. We got what we ordered. The turkey was dry but it tasted good and everything else tasted good. Made green bean casserole and sweet potatoes. The GB Casserole almost was ruined because apparently cream of mushroom cans can now be “ready to serve”. I dumped a can of it into my milk and then saw the can said ready to serve.  I just put extra french’s onions in the mix and that helped with the runniness of it.

We played jackboxtv games with our 2 youngest sailors and our 12 year old. My daughter was able to leave base to go to her grandmother’s house as she graduated from her C school so was “in holding”. Her base is in HPCON Charlie but it all depends on each sailor’s situation.

Before we ate we had also played Monopoly with my youngest (who won BIG).
So, while it was emptier here it was still a fun day. I only missed out on talking to my oldest sailor.

Looking back through my FB memories and one year the whole house was sick on Thanksgiving so we had to do it on a Saturday.  

I am at a loss for my little guy for Christmas. I got my sailors the shadow boxes/flags and then TONS of snacks. Except for my CSS - he wanted a really nice pen. So we bought him a really nice pen from Cross. It just will look so sad with just his presents under the tree. I also just do not feel like I have even had a minute to think about his presents.

Shanny ~ i’m so sorry it was rough for Thanksgiving. What can we do to make things better for you?! You don’t deserve this.  With covid I’m thinking we may dodge a bullet from our holiday family drama. Crossing my fingers. No matter what every time my sister-in-law and mother-in-law are together for the holidays there’s always a blowup. No matter what. You’d think that people would learn to avoid what makes people tick when history always repeats itself. But nope they end up feeding into the same old bull crap year after year after year. Not that it makes a difference but they’re LDS as well. My husband and I would escape to a bar for a beer just to decompress. We always said if they would just have a glass of wine maybe they chill the freak out. Lol

I hope this coming month things get better and you can find some joy. BIG HUGS! Not throw salt on a wound but your son needs to come home already! 

Partyofseven ~ yeah the tears came out quite a few times yesterday missing my boy. Especially when he text us a photo of his meal and called it hospital thanksgiving food! He’d never let on if he was miserable though - he just says I’m chillin. He loves where he’s at but it’s nothing like home for the holidays. 

ladybluefire ~ isn’t golden girls the best! I’m a huge fan. last year my sailor got me Golden girls Clue lol
So OC spray is where you get maced and then you have to fight off people with a foam baton and they have hand held punching bags that guys are hitting you with. Basically you have to know how to take somebody down and defend yourself while being hindered by mace. Yikes. It’s crazy the things that he’s told us that he hast to learn being military police. He’s excited though.

Hey all...I haven't been on in quite a while. Wow a lot has happened!! Thinking of you all and I hope you were all able to enjoy your Thanksgiving. I was blessed with a 24 minute phone call from my girl :) She sounded great, it was so good to hear her voice!! She had her run today, hoping it went well. Her shin splints are still bothering her but she said she was ready to push through. Determined!! Praying for that I'm a Sailor call next week. Enjoy the weekend ladies!!

Schoosh, prayers your daughter powers through and you get that call next week. It was nice hearing from you.

Shoosh!  I've been wondering about you and your daughter!  I pray you hear she did well on her run today despite the pain.  She's tough!  

Shanny - awe, sorry your son isn't happy with his duty station.  I don't know of too many that actually request Norfolk.  But it is the largest base there is so many do end up there.  It was last on B's list - even after Japan and yet that's where he ended up.  Virginia is actually a nice place to visit - we were lucky to go twice (from CA) and enjoyed it both times - once we got past the humidity in the summer lol!

Here's a little funny - although I think it might be true as to how the detailers work lol - wink wink!

Good Morning everyone!  Sorry I took a bit of a break to feel sorry for myself...  I never heard from my sailor on Thanksgiving or yesterday. But he FaceTimed my brother and his family so I guess he is doing well. (Btw this is the first time since he got his phone back that I didn’t even get a text...  starting the 3rd day of silence). 

Shoosh:. Please know you have all of us pushing your daughter through her run!  Hopefully we can be the push she needs!  I am so sorry she is still in pain!  Hopefully she can get through BC and back out into the world for some good, supportive shoes!  You would think they would clue in on the poor quality of the shoes they are using...

I get it on the silence. That's something that my Sailor and I have been doing off and on. Keep loving and supporting him and let him know how proud u are of him. I have learned from other Navy moms this behavior is normal for them as they adjust to their new world. 

Some days are easier for me than others. :) Even after all this time. :) If I don't hear from him thou I text him every night to say I love u and good night. I might not hear from him daily but he always answers back so then I know he's ok. 

Big hugs to you and I pray you hear from him soon. 

B’sNukeMoM:. He told me last week that he is getting used to the idea of Norfolk. Said he is kind of excited to get to use the new technology and to be on the world’s largest naval base. And somewhat close to DC so he can eventually make a trip to see the Vietnam Wall to get an etching of my uncle’s name and the police officer memorial to get an etching of a friend of mine that died in the line of duty. Plus all the history there...  so he is accepting of it.  Just like everyone else, he had a wish list. He just said maybe some day

partyofseven:  I would have been there for the FaceTime call had my mother not started and I left to avoid an argument. I don’t have to stay and take it anymore. I tried to ignore it all these years to keep the peace so my son would be able to be with the family. I don’t have to anymore. I just walk away now. 

Shanny- I hear you. I think we all have some type of family issues. That is good and thats all you can do is just walk away. You can't control their actions but you can control yours. Prayers for you amd big hugs and love. 

Party - I would not be surprised if movie theatres become a thing of the past. Regal theatres are going away. They were not doing too well and then the new Bond film was to save them but then the fact the movie is being pushed back due to the virus was the nail in the coffin. I am not a big movie goer but I understand how economics work enough to know we need those people employed!

Shoosh - prayers she pushes through. My #3 told me he had them too and pushed thru so he wouldn’t be set back. Glad he told me after the fact! Here’s to you getting a call this week!

Vintage - yes, hospital food! That is a great analogy! Color me confused, so  your sailor is the one who is doing the OC spray. Or waiting to do it I should say.

Lucky for me I have never been a Black Friday shopper. I despise shopping of any kind on a normal day. That is why I love online shopping and also Stitch Fix for my clothes. They ALWAYS fit...well, 99.99999999% of the time.

I love the GG - more than when they first aired because now I can relate more to them.

Manycolors - welcome! Your sailor most likely started P Days on 11/24 and then on 12/1 was week 1 training day 1 aka 1-1, then every Tuesday a new training week starts. Sat and Sun are w/e week they are on then Sat  or Sun - today would be 1-SUN..

BBH - the scuttle I heard was not that they were resuming normal training but extending the Warrior Toughness Program (whatever the teachings are to make them able to deal with tough situations, stress etc) to be a 2 week program. That is what my 4th sailor was told anyway…

BsNukeMomMMN - lol that is probably how the Navy picks PDSs!

Shanny - don’t you dare apologize - I would gather you don’t have many places you can safely vent! Did I miss something about your Sailor? Are you in the middle of a fight with him? 3rd day of silence? Good for you on not taking it anymore with your family. Life is too damn short!

Northwoodsmom, Pheonixmom, Anti M, C’smom, Katharine - hello to you!!

So my little guy is in heaven. He decorated the outside for Christmas yesterday and is working on the Christmas tree. This year he gets to do it his way with no big siblings bossing him around! And if he breaks any ornaments that is less we have to move with. Apparently the tree was christened Goliath as it is 9 ft tall. That has my son lamenting his height. “Why am I going thru puberty if I am so short!?”

So we called my husband’s late wife’s dad - even though “our” son is not related he still treats him like he is a grandson. He works with the Civil Air Patrol and my youngest wants to be a Navy pilot. (Blue Angels). We were chatting about the dangers and my son said “if I crash at least my death will be quick” NOT what a mom wants to hear from her 12 year old son!

Well, back to the grind of organizing my computer files! (I love to organize if you can’t tell!)

LadyBluefire- Awe that is so sweet. That was cute about what he said about not quite being tall enough. He'll get there. Lol

I'm taking a break from the cleaning and packing up fall decorations. Am in Prescott enjoying the day before heading back to work on Monday.

I know right about the theaters, I was weary about going but I did all the necessary precautions and their wasnt a lot of people in our room.
