  • proud and grateful

    Hello everyone.

TreyLexiMom:  My son is "scheduled" to get out of ROM and go to RTC tomorrow...maybe.  Was it Mon. 2 days ago or Mon. last week 23rd that your son got there?  I am just trying to figure out how long they are in Ship 1.  When the recruits are at Ship 1 processing, is that where someone learns the mail job?

This is getting so scary, not knowing, having our SR not know what is going on.  C'sMom, I hope he at least finds something out, either way.  That is so frustrating!  Not knowing anything is the hardest part.

At this point, I am hoping my son gets through like Shanny's Sailor did.  :)

Shoosh:  My heart aches for you, and your daughter!  It is so hard to hear our children hurt and not be able to be there to support them or to just hug them.

The Great Silence is the hardest part for me.  I understand why the Great Silence is,  but this is a different game with Covid and how it is being handled.

Thoughts and prayers to all who are struggling with Covid or those that don't know where they are going or not going.

  • TreyLexisMom

proud and grateful: he arrived at RTC on 23rd, he talked like they were supposed to get assigned to a ship soon.  someone commented on another group that his son has tested positive this week and was moved to the off base location, the water park.  my father-in-law is a minister and he contacted the chaplains office and the said this is a regular recurrence right now.  in 2 weeks when he finishes ROM again he will go straight to training and the chaplains will have access to counsel with those that are having extra stress of ROM.  He said they usually stay at Ship 1 for up to 1 1/2 weeks before being assigned, once they start their first day of training they will be able to send/receive mail, if they didn't make day 1 of training before going back to ROM their mail is held for them.

  • Phoenixmom

That is great info to know TreyLexisMom, thank You for sharing.

  • VintageGal

TreylexisMom - Oh my goodness. Just being out of quarantine and having to go to ROM. Big hugs to you and prayer for your son! My son had to go back to ROM five weeks into boot camp. He called in tears, it was awful. The letter that he wrote home on the first day was super sad but the second day letter was way more upbeat. They provide books, play stories over the loud-speaker, and my son drew a lot. He'll have a bunk mate so he shouldn't be too lonely. If he wasn't assigned an address I would call and find away to send him letters. Normally I definitely wouldn't call but in this circumstance I would ask where you can send the letter and the reason why.  I sent pictures printed on paper, you can send word puzzles or pretty much anything that he's interested in reading. He won't be able to receive packages just letter sized envelopes.

This is all so hard and the not knowing wears on you but let your SR know that this is only temporary and you are so proud of him. (((((BNMH)))))

  • VintageGal

Treyleximom - Wait a second they said that they'll hold their mail for them? I would think that those recruits would be given an address to have mail sent to them in ROM. weird.

  • proud and grateful

Treyleximom- Thanks for the information!!  Please thank your father-in-law for me!!  :)  If you learn anymore, I would really appreciate you posting it.

No News is Good News!!  And I will anxiously await my letter in 2 weeks or so?..??

  • NewMilmom

C'sMom - praying the info he was given is not accurate. Poor guy!!! Praying it doesn't come to that for him...and he can get shipped to San Antonio but, even there is is a hurry & wait situation it seems for our Sailors from what I gather.  Not sure what Texas is going to do as I read the White House called on Texas to intensify pandemic responses ... it's Not good there!! my family is living through it there & I pray/worry & pray some more each day for them....we currently have 2 members of the family there with it...my poor brother-in-law has been fighting cancer for the last several years has it...was hospitalized in isolation & oxygen but, the hospital got a ton of more intense cases so called my sister to pick him up & try to monitor him at home again...he was too sick to get to Dallas/Fort Worth when he went in but yet, now they send him home & tell my sister to try to help him as best she can...I am livid needless to say about that but I am also not able to offer any real help in the situation.

It is ugly times with the Co-Vid for so many.  So many lives lost & others health destroyed and it is not seeming to let up.

    Prayers for everyone!!

  • belovedbyHim

Shoosh-- I'm just so sad for you and for your daughter! Having plans derailed that way especially after she worked so hard to get through!! It's just hard!! Lots of paperwork to get them home and they are not top priority. Normal processing is 3-6 weeks, Hoping that with the Holiday stand down they move quicker for her. Were you able to get answers on the SEPS page? If not I believe there is the same page on FB and they may be able to help you with information as well. Phones are even more limited in SEPS so you may not hear from her again until it is to let you know travel arrangements.
  • VintageGal

C’smom - Geez that sounds harsh! Was his medical record cleared? I can’t remember if there was a resolution to that. So my son said that they had called them over the loudspeaker and then they were given a days notice before they left. We were talking on the phone yesterday and he said as far as I’m concerned I’m not coming home for Christmas (even though he has his plane ticket). We’ve learned not to get our hopes up about anything and it’s a real bummer. He said I belong to the Navy for the next four years and I need to go with whatever comes at me. The fact is is he’s been so excited for this job but all the hurry up and waiting has been hecka boring. He hopes to start classes tomorrow. Yesterday he went and watched the K-9 dogs for something to do.
So what I’ve gathered from you and NewMilMom is that they’ll probably shut down the Texas base very soon and stop them from traveling. I guess we’ll see. I know I can’t get my hopes up but I have my hopes up!! Lol

NewMilMom- I’m so sorry about your brother-in-law. I hope that the doctors can get everything under control so he can be well and cancer free.

Shanny and C’smom - Cute boots and boat shoes! Since we’re all throwing out our shoe size and height I am 5’3” and a size 8 1/2. My daughter is also an
    8 1/2 so it’s nice to be able to share shoes. She’s 5’6” or 5’ 7”.
We also buy sweatshirts and sweaters to share. :)

Pheonixmom- Hot biker mom ooolala! Tonight I’m finally making the Enchiladas stuffed with roasted poblano peppers and carne asada. I use Macayo’s Enchilada sauce. Do you have that brand in phoenix?
  • Phoenixmom

VintageGal yes But I can explain how to make your own which I do. you have to buy the chili pods in a bag, that say new mexico chili. boil them seeds and all. once done get your Blender and put chili in the blender use the water you used to boil chili and Blend really good. You need a strainer because now you will strain the chili and it will collect all the seeds and skin from chili. continue using the water you used to boil chili so it wont be so thick to strain. once that is done  you get a pan add some oil  let it get hot and make a rue with flower, then add the blended chili with water and get all lumps out and make a gravy there is your enchilada sauce. much better than the can. Or have you heard of Baca Chili in a red and white tub sold in the freezer dept. that is blended chili already strained and all. just defrost. Just heat up some oil in a pan add flour make sure all lumps are out pour a bit of the baca add water and make it to your consistency.

Fry's Food Stores - Baca's Hot Red Chile Puree, 14 oz

  • Phoenixmom

    New Mexico chili pods

Barker's HOT Red Chili Pods From Hatch, New Mexico - 16 Oz.

  • VintageGal

Pheonixmom- thank you! You make everything homemade why would I even begin to think that you would use canned enchilada sauce lol <3 I will save your recipe and try it out!

  • belovedbyHim

TreyLexisMom—If he had been further along then the answer is Yes maybe, but since he was still in P-days they have not yet mailed the form letter so you don’t have an address for him yet. Sadly No phone calls either. There is only 1 phone bank at RTC with OLD Pay phones and they have to be sanitized after every use. They will not risk a possible COVID infected person to move to the phone bank (Think old Phone booths with a bench! OLD!!) and having another massive outbreak!! I know it’s brutal and I am sharing this in case any other new moms get the same phone call, They just have to tough it out!! It will NOT be this way forever but in the beginning it VERY MUCH Stinks!! Try and focus on the positive!! (He’s getting paid to sit and read books!!) This is the New Normal!! Not too long ago there was a discussion about a young lady who had been there 6 months! Calling is not advised since due to PERSEC they can not give out any personal information.

C’sMom—GRRRRRRRRRRR Some times some sailors can be such!!!!! (Jerks is too nice!), I’m hoping they get him moved soon!!

Shanny—Congratulations!! Tell him to relax a bit, Maybe he can finally come home between commands since he hasn’t seen you since shipping out!!

proud and grateful – Ship 1 is Processing Week. They are filling out paperwork, Getting shots/ Physicals, Going to the barber, Getting their haircuts, Uniform fittings… All the Processing week stuff. Training a Mail Petty Officer happens once they are on their Ship (Training week 1 & 2) The Form letter gets mailed On Processing Day 5 or Training day 1, That allows for the 2 weeks training for the Mail RPO to be trained. I go into detail on this in my Blog. You don’t want to go through what Shanny did!!! Her SR got lost!! (She didn’t get the form letter or a Phone call till PIR!! He just had a Smooth A school is all!) We were about to call out the Navy Mom Posse to look for her “lost Puppy”!

    VintageGal—Same on height and Shoes!!
  • Phoenixmom

Vintagegal let me know if you need better instructions, then season with Garluic and onion salt pepper and there you have chili for red chili con carne or enchiladas. or bean burritos enchilada style just add shredded cheese. You are going to love the Stuffed poblanos, I dip it in beer batter then panko crumbs and fry YUMMY!

  • Phoenixmom

You can also use the poblanos for green chili sauce and some tomatillos blend the both up. I use Jalepenos and tomatillos for green chili sauce. Girl I will show you how to cook some Mexican food!

  • Shanny

Arghhhhh. There I feel better. It has been one of those days. I have decided I am no longer going to doctors appointments and I am taking all of this damn medication they keep giving me and throwing it all in the trash. I swear every time I go, they give me 5 more things and I don’t take any of it. Just more depressing news that just keeps on confirming I have the body of a 90 year old, the mind of full on dementia, and a heart that just doesn’t care anymore

But anyway, my son will officially graduate Friday from A School. He still has no idea what his orders will look like except Norfolk and his ship. No dates or anything else. He said he did really well but is upset that he had too many smart people in his class and wasn’t where he wanted to be despite having a great grade. He says he is ready to leave Pensacola. Oh someone decided to microwave a fork. Literally put a fork in the microwave and started it up. Things went boom and fire alarms went off and they evacuated the barracks. Again.

  • VintageGal

Pheonixmom- thank you! It’s our favorite food! We normally grill up fajitas on Fridays. My kids don’t even order chicken enchiladas at restaurants. They’re usually disappointed because they like mine although I’ve always used macayo’s sauce. I grew up eating at Macayo’s so its a nostalgic thing as well.
You teach me your recipes and I’ll provide the Jalapeño margaritas! I just bought fideo to make sopa de fideo for the first time. I want a bowl of your albondigas soup! Mmmm I’m hungry now!
  • Shanny

Ok I just wanna sit in my corner and eat queso and chips!  Yes I know. Queso isn’t real Mexican food. But I like it. And could eat it by the gallon. Just throw more chips at me when I run out

my son just sent a Snapchat. 58 degrees and everyone is wearing cold gear in Pensacola tonight lol sent him one back and said 36 degrees and my feet are cold. Send foot warmers

  • Phoenixmom

Shanny I am so sorry you are having to deal with this, But you pick yourself up and quit thinking nonsense, do what you gotta do and all else will follow, something has to work? come to phoenix Girl you need a vaca! and we will both drown our sorrows! Just joking! continue staying strong and faith girlfriend rely on your Faith it really helps!

VintageGal you let me know what you wanna make!

  • Phoenixmom

  • VintageGal

Shanny - first of all you’re not going to sit in the corner and I’ll be eating queso with you! Lol Nobody puts baby in a corner...

We’re going to look into taking colloidal silver. Do you want to give that a shot? :) look into it?
  • Phoenixmom

Shanny get some nacho cheese pour a can of ro tel in it with some ground meat that is the bomb or just the RoTel.

Rotel Original Diced Tomatoes & Green Chilies 10oz

  • partyofseven

Phoenixmom- that is the bomb. Shanny you will love it. I am a chip amd salsa girl. It is one of my favorites.

I love it and will make it this weekend. It is breakfast burritos for tonight's dinner. Another one of my favorites.

Chorizo, beans, eggs and pappas. Mmmmm good.

Shanny- pick your self up, I am so aorry you are having difficulties with these drs. Stay strong in your faith. God will protect and take care of you.

You to Phoenixmom have a wonderful evening.

  • Phoenixmom

PartyofSeven stop! I'm so hungry and I don't want to eat out! just been living on a jimmy Dean breakfast bowl but that is ok for now! Good Night

  • VintageGal

Pheonixmom- I add rotel to my Mexican rice. It’s great to have that on hand.

partyofseven - that sounds like a yummy dinner!

Good night ladies :) have sweet dreams of foooood

  • Shanny

PhoenixMom:  I think there is a can of Rotel in the kitchen. My son used it In the queso he used to smoke. I didn’t like the smoked flavor. It had a HUGE list of ingredients in it different kind of cheeses and peppers and other things.

  • Shanny

I am going to try to change my email address on my account here...  wish me luck!! (Changing my internet provider so my email will be going away)

  • VintageGal

Shanny ~ as long as you stay! Good luck lol
  • Shanny

I give up. This is the 5th time I have tried. It always tells me my password is incorrect but I get the email to change it.

  • Northwoodsmom

Good morning to all, and welcome to our new Moms. You are in the right place, alot of compassionate, knowledgeable ladies on here to help deal with the unknown and even bring back a little laughter and joy that you thought took a vacation for next couple months.

Got a screenshot from my son this morning of the temps down in Goose Creek. Nippy down there this morning, 31 degrees heading for 33 for noon. He can't come home for Christmas so he got a little bit of home sent to him. He is sooooo happy, he hated the heat this summer.

  • proud and grateful

    Good morning.

Belovedbyhim- thanks for the information.  I guess the best I should hope for is No News is Good News.  :)  Well, if anything, I guess our SR will learn to be patient and to work on being mentally tough.  :)  That is a good lesson as well.

    Have a good day everyone.

  • partyofseven

Good Morning Ladies and welcome to all of our new moms,

proud and grateful- Good Morning. It definitely teaches our SR's and Sailors on how to hurry up and wait.

You have a good day as well.

Northwoodsmom- Good Morning, How is your brother doing? We are at a chilly 49 degrees. Whoo hoo.Maybe there will be a trip in the future for you since he can't come home. :)

I hope you new moms are doing well and that you are getting your first letter and or phone call. We are all here for you ladies if you have any questions or just need to vent, laugh or cry.

Good Morning Phoenixmom, Anti M, LBF, BBH, Chipmunk, VintageGal, Shanny, Jens mom, jacksmom17 and to the other moms that I have missed.

    Lamentations 3:21-22

  • Luci

Good Morning Ladies. I promised to let you know about my Sailor's situation. He was taken out of ROM on Tuesday after 20 days! The holiday stand down is the only reason that I can think of that his ROM was longer than the 14 days we always think about. He's now in MART, and will have temporary duty at a clinic on base until FTMB classes up, hopefully in early January. We're back to no communications during the week. Hope to hear from him sometime this weekend. I can't help but admire his focus and determination.

Thank you - again - everyone in this group enough for your continued support. I've gone through BC and A School, but I surely depend on your knowledge and comfort that we're in this together.

  • partyofseven

Luci- Good Morning, It is good to see  you on here. Thank you for letting us know what's been happening. I'm still praying that he will be able to come home for the holidays since it will be a stand down.

I hope you will hear from him this weekend as well. My Sailor just completed his FTMB classes and he loved the experience. Welcome to you and your Sailor to the Marine side or the green side as they sometimes call it.

Yes this group is a god send and I love the ladies on here and have learned so much myself and I love being able to pay it forward.

    Have a great day!!!!

  • Luci

partyofseven, thank you for the encouragement. It's a comfort to know of someone else in the same pipeline.

  • LadyBluefire

Shoosh - BNMH! I hope she can come home by Christmas.

Csmom - when  you say TX is shutting down do you mean the base or the state? Reading more messages I am seeing it is the state. Imagine in flu season the numbers are going up!

TreyLexsMom - sorry to hear your son is being set back.

Proud - I am guessing here, but after they leave Ship 1 (they stay there til P-5) and get assigned their ship is when they are trained on mail.

NewMilMom - it is like that here too - 40s in the AM and 80s in the PM - I will take the 80s lol. I am such a FL gal. 50 Squats? - I can’t even do 1, lol. Sorry to hear your BIl is battling cancer.

Party - I heard back on one possibility and it is a no go. My CSS sailor’s CS1 was trying to get them to be able to come home between A and sub school since sub school is backed up for months. So we were hoping he could be here for Christmas. He graduates A school tomorrow and won’t start sub school til Feb/March. Not sure if he will be in holding at A school til sub school has room OR what.

Phoenix - please do not overdo it!

Vintage - 1880s math is anything but basic. LOL.

I used to be 5’4 but after a car accident and now “aging” I am down to 5’1.5-5’2

Shanny - is the belt buckle his rate? That is nice they are gifting it to him. My CSS son can’t find his at the NEX (he is on an army base). One RS son bought his in Norfolk and another RS son was given one by a person who was kicked out of the Navy at A school. Crossing fingers his dates to report to Norfolk give him time to come home first. He will just change the destination on his plane ticket (a small small fee) and then have to pay his own way to A school.
I am sending you big Navy  mom hugs for your medical and internet issues.

Luci - glad your Sailor is out of ROM! 20 days? Yikes!

Good morning everyone else - back to my grind of digital organizing. Amazing what I can do when I stay off of Facebook, lol.

  • Chipmunk

Good Morning Partyofseven, Luci, Northwoodsmom, DallasNavyMom and all the others!!

I will be busy today, trying to get birthday presents and Christmas presents wrapped. I also am making my granddaughter's 1st birthday cake - Very special instructions from the mom (no refined sugar) - so we shall see how it turns out.

Luci - I am glad to hear that your sailor is out of ROM. It is so different in each place how they are dealing with some of these that unfortunately we don't have a pat answer.

VintageGal - Dinner sounded wonderful last night. I would have loved to join you. We cleaned up the rest of the leftovers, now I have all the dishes that needed to soak and would not fit in my dishwasher to deal with. UGH!! If we could just cook and make delicious food and then wave our magic wands for clean up, I would do a lot more cooking and baking than I do.

I had a PM from one of my friends, we have a new sailor in the house, so here is hoping for more phone calls to come everyone's direction.

Shoosh - How are you doing today??  Hugs as you wait for more news.

Proud and grateful - The hurry up and wait is just part of military life and sometimes it is a lot harder for us as moms to learn that patience than our sailors do. Like VintageGal's son said, I think, "This is what I signed up for"  My son reminded me, "I signed on the dotted line."  It is a bummer when our kids are forgotten for the holidays, or don't have a good meal, etc. but no one ever said going into the military was a bed of roses and so whenever my kids can, they take advantage of all of the military discounts businesses give them, they find the USO or military lounges when flying and traveling and get free food. And we learn, easy or not, to roll with the punches, right along with them.

    C'sMom & Shanny - Hugs!

    Have a great day everyone!!

  • Chipmunk

Hi Ladybluefire!!  You and me both - got to keep working on our projects!!

  • Shanny

Morning everyone!!  Yesterday was a mental drain on me  so I’m bthink I may just hang out with the dog today and catch up on bad tv. (Seal Team was new last night and 2 hours!). I need to get an oil change. So maybe today. Maybe tomorrow.  See, no direction today lol

LadyBluefire:  yes...  the buckle has his rate on it. He said it’s pretty cool. He was folding and refilling his clothes and belongings last night-Snapchat video lol. Said he is getting ready to move on to the next adventure. Getting things ready to pack up.

You ladies are awesome!  I love seeing the support and concern and friendship on here. Big hugs for everyone today!  I hope phone calls, letters and reassurance are coming today for everyone!

  • DoriBry

Good morning everyone. It is a cold morning here in the Peach state so I hope wherever you all are you are staying warm. I warned my southern born and bred son that winter in Chicago is going to be a little different than he is used to.   I just wanted to say thank you for all the posts that mention updates and what they are hearing.  I was counting the days on the calendar and trying to figure out where my son may be at this point but I dont think I will truly know until I get the letter with his mailing address. That will at least signify that he is out of quarantine and has started basic training.

Can someone verify that each division has a facebook page so you can follow along with their progress?  I am not sure where I heard that or maybe read it somewhere.

  • Shanny

DoriBry: I was part of two different Facebook pages for my son’s division. They were kind of grouped by their expected PIR date and contained all of the divisions expected to graduate that date. We didn’t have one for just his division.

  • Phoenixmom

Good Morning All, Happy Thursday! Another chilly Morning in the Phoenix area. Glad to see so many Post this morning, wishing you all well with a Great Day ahead!

Thank You PartyofSeven for the Scripture, love seeing it in the morning. I had a lot to be thankful for so I extended my prayer as I woke up. Off to a good start this morning, just ordered my Grandson a Letter from Santa and a Nice List to come with it, he will be so surprised!

Good Morning to all our New Comers so glad to have you here, and to have you introduce yourselves.

Shanny thank you for answering! Hope you have a Great Day!

  • Phoenixmom

    Morning Prayer:

Heavenly Father, how I praise and thank You that you are a gracious, loving and long-suffering God. Help me not to be influenced by the circumstances of my life but rather help me to keep the eyes of my heart on You, knowing that Your plans and purposes are perfect. Thank You Father for Your steadfast love towards all Your children - which is new every morning. All glory to Your holy name, AMEN

  • Shoosh

    Good morning!

My daughter called yesterday, she was in good spirits. She said it took her a while to get there. She felt like a failure at first but now accepts that it is an injury and nothing she could have done to prevent it. She is determined to come home, heal and go back!! I'm beyond amazed at her grit, determination and perseverance. And I cannot wait until she gets home so I can hug her. She gets to make calls on Mondays and Wednesdays, so this is a relief as I know when to expect a call. She said some recruits have been there as long as 7 weeks, but said she will be home before Christmas. Different circumstances, I guess. She did ask me to send fuzzy socks as it is freezing there, lol.

Again, thank you for your words of support, encouragement and comfort. xo

  • Phoenixmom

Shoosh I am so glad that you were able to talk to her and got confirmation on her coming home. She is so Amazing and I love her spirit, so glad that she staying focused and upbeat.

  • Shanny

Shoosh:. I am so glad you heard from her and that she sounds better!  You have raised a very strong daughter!  Not sure where you are located but I bought some fleece lined socks yesterday and they are beyond amazing and warm!  Definitely not Mavy issue since they are mint green and pink striped but omg completely love them!!
